Reproducing it is only a matter of; * Dropping the file in /usr/share/icons/hicolor * Generate the icon cache using GTK+ 2.10 (2.11 refuses to create the cache, complaining about a bad image index) * Restart metacity and invoke metacity-dialog. Bug#410666: update-notifier doesn't breaks apt-secure
The usage of update-notifier works against apt-secure: It looks like (maybe my interpretation is flawed, so don't take this guess for granted) it doesn't download the Release.gpg file. At least when update-notifier tells me that there are new packages to install, and I try to install them through e.g. aptitude I am told that the packages are being downloaded from an unsecure source. Some preliminary testing suggest that the problem could be elsewhere. I deleted the Release.gpg file, and forced a manual update, and it seems to have been downloaded with no problems.
