Bug#339711: dhcp-client: Severely broken on sparc

But ok, that answers my question, the udeb is still too big.

Yes, the hard numbers for i386 are:

i386 root floppy with dhcp-client-udeb 39k free
i386 root floppy with dhcp3-client-udeb -68k free

However, it is possible to move the net installation support from the
root floppy to the drivers floppy, then we get plenty of space free on
both even with dhcp3-client-udeb. The downside is two-floppy installs
arn't supported then, which is probably not worth worrying about.

The only issue AFAIK is size.

For i386 Package Installed
dhcp-client-udeb 40132
dhcp3-client-udeb145396

For sparc Package Installed
dhcp-client-udeb 43176
dhcp3-client-udeb150608

For ia64 Package Installed
dhcp-client-udeb 70352
dhcp3-client-udeb268 1356

As you can see a factor 3-4 larger. This is especially bad for floppy
based installation.

Granted, though it seems that at least two of the architectures you quoted
don't support floppy installs in etch? :)

But ok, that answers my question, the udeb is still too big.

Thanks,

Sparc does but they are not part of official release as building them
requires root.

I'm seeing the same problem on my Sparc Ultra10. Switching to dhcp3-client
solved the issue.

Removal of the package might not be such a good idea as Debian-Installer
uses the dhcp-client-udeb. I've not yet checked if the udeb has the same
problems on sparc.

This bug is going to affect the udeb on sparc the same as it affects the
deb.
