Bug#340151: maxima: fail to start

2006-09-11 Thread Toby
Hi

This happens on my iBook G3 (ppc).

I couldn't get it to work even by disabling dh_strip altogether in
debian/rules. The compiled binary (before packaging) works in any case.

I'd say it's a reproducible bug.

Just to make this clear: are you saying that if you fetch sources from
upstream and compile them on your machine you'll get working maxima
 and this bug won't appear?

Honestly I haven't tried to compile clean sources yet, as the
compilation itself is quite lengthy on my machine.

I just fetched the latest source package (5.9.3-1.1) using apt-get
source and compiled it with fakeroot ./debian/rules binary

The output of the compilation phase (invoked with ./maxima-local) is a
full working maxima that doesn't display the bug. On the other hand,
the final output (installed with dpkg -i ../maxima_5.9.3-1.1_powerpc.deb
and invoked by typing just maxima) doesn't start, printing:

Unrecoverable error: Segmentation violation..
Aborted

I tried to disable stripping, by deleting any dh_strip line in
debian/rules, to no avail: the bug in the final package is still there.

thanks

Have rebuilt bot gcl and maxima in the standard fashion in sid chroot
on bruckner, and cannot reproduce this. May I please suggest
requeueing first gcl and then maxima on this arch.

Take care,
