Bug#375851: possibly just the wrong encoding?

2006-07-01 Thread Mattia Dongili
Hi Enrico,

is this the same problem addressed in
/usr/share/doc/festvox-itapc16k/README.Debian?
(Encoding of accented letters)

I did write a stupid program (using glade and gtk2) to play with
festival[1], see launch_festival(void *x) in src/callbacks.c for some
code to do the same as the suggested `recode stuff`. It needs
librecode-dev to build.

Thanks! It is. I eventually managed to prepare a patch for
gnome-speech to query the synthesis for the wanted encoding, and recode
data as needed.

I also prepared a patch for the Italian festival voices to report what
is the wanted encoding, and I already committed it to:

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-italian/festival-italian/trunk/debian/patches/report_encoding.patch?op=filerev=0sc=0

I'm now waiting for the blessing of the gnome-accessibility people to
start prodding for inclusion of that patch, which would allow festival
to be used as the speech synthesis for accessibility screen readers
using an Italian desktop.

Your mail also gave me the idea of adding how to retrieve the wanted
encoding to the README.Debian. I just committed it here:

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-italian/festival-italian/trunk/debian/README.Debian?op=filerev=0sc=0

Ciao,

Enrico
