 No objections from me, thanks for doing it. It is important that
 Bug#409524, which will be RC for lenny, be closed. There is at least one
 source package that build-depends on it (plplot).

JFTR and my personal log: This bug report is a duplicate of
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=405186. The bug is in
libxml-sax-perl. Adding the `--encoding' option should fix it for the
moment, so build-dependencies can stay the same.

Leaving this bug opened, without reassigning it, to prevent further
reports of the same kind against docbook2x. Adding an etch-ignore tag,
that should fit the current situation.

Regards, Daniel

Please don't use the etch-ignore tag without discussion with the release
team. The right tag here is really the sid tag, to indicate that the bug
is specific to unstable for reasons external to the package itself.

Thanks,

 Adding an '--encoding=utf-8' to the command line in
 doc/Makefile(.in|.am) or adding libxml-sax-expat-perl to build
 dependencies seems to solve the problem. I guess, there are changes in
 the libxml-sax-perl version in Sid, that make the build break.

The package builds correctly in my sid chroot on i368. Is it perhaps a
problem with the em64t architecture? It would be good if the files
doc/docbook2X.txml and doc/docbook2X.texi could be posted here, such that we
can try to understand what is going wrong.

 Not in my sid-pbuilder (ditto i386). The difference between Etch and Sid
 is the higher versioned libxml-sax-perl in Sid.

You are right, I was building in a chroot, not a pbuilder, which happened to
have libxml-sax-expat-perl installed. The fix would be then simply to add
libxml-sax-expat-perl to the build-dependencies, as you suggested.

As this fix is not intended for etch, we could take the opportunity to
package the newest upstream version (0.8.7). At any rate, it is strange
that debian/changelog in CVS contains:

docbook2x (0.8.5-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
  * debian/control: minor cosmetic updates
  * Added 'debian/watch'

 -- Ardo van Rangelrooij [EMAIL PROTECTED]  Sat, 20 Nov 2004 13:48:29 -0600

but version 0.8.5-1 was never uploaded. Ardo?

I have been responsible for this package in the past, mainly because the
plplot package build-depended on it. Now that I orphaned plplot, I lost
interest in maintaining docbook2x. I hope someone will step forward and
update the package.

Or using the `--encoding=utf-8' option in doc/Makefile(.in|.am) in the
related program call.

It should be possible to remove the 0.8.5-branch via cvs admin command.
But if the fix for the problem would be included to a
new-upstream-version upload, the changelog entry could stay there.
