I am unable to reproduce your bug.
$ TEXMACS_PATH=/usr/lib/texmacs/TeXmacs/
GUILE_LOAD_PATH=/usr/share/texmacs/TeXmacs/progs
Is there any specific reason as to why you are setting this variable?
What happens when you run texmacs without setting these variables?
Strange, but I myself now cannot reproduce the bug.
/usr/bin/texmacs now successfully runs without setting any env.
texmacs should run fine without setting any of these variables. I am
able to run texmacs without setting any of these variables (on sid)
and it runs without any crashes.
{/home/porton/.TeXmacs/fonts/virtual:/usr/lib/texmacs/TeXmacs/fonts/virtual}/larm.vfn
not
readable in 'load_string'
I am not sure what larm.vfn is
$ sudo apt-file update
$ sudo apt-file search larm.vfn
Did not give any results. So larm.vfn is not available in Debian. Did
you install some third party software?
No third party fonts related to this installed.

Also, I grepped the source file for larm.vfn and there is no mention of it.
Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.KOI8-R (charmap=KOI8-R)
I am using
Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1)
Could you please try with the above locale and see if the problem is
specific to the locale that you are using. That narrows the problem
further.
