Also I have noticed that you have built your kernel manually, have you
 enabled 32-bit emulation (CONFIG_IA32_EMULATION) ?
Yes, it is enabled. I tried also with debian's kernel and I got the same
 error.

Everything looks ok on your system. I should admit I have almost no more
ideas about the problem. The fact is that this package work well on all
other machines, so that's very probably a problem with the configuration
of your system.

First, could you please try the new version of this package (2.6-2).

Then could you please send the environment variables that are defined
when you are trying to run a 32-bit package (use export). Maybe a
LD_PRELOAD or a similar variable is defined.

Alternatively if this machine is permanently connected to the internet,
would it be possible to get an account on it to debug the problem?

Cheers,
Aurelien

In conclusion, I am very confused about this. It is worth noting that
in 64-bit mode, everything runs smoothly. The attached files are the
source and the binary compiled on my machine.

It works correctly here, so it is definitely a problem related to your
configuration.

Could you try to execute the following binaries and send me the output?
/emul/ia32-linux/lib/ld-linux.so.2
/emul/ia32-linux/lib/libc.so.6
/lib32/ld-linux.so.2
/lib32/libc.so.6

Also I have noticed that you have built your kernel manually, have you
enabled 32-bit emulation (CONFIG_IA32_EMULATION) ?

Bye,
Aurelien

Ok, the error is always a segfault. For example,

 % ldd a.out
   linux-gate.so.1 = (0xe000)
   libc.so.6 = /lib32/libc.so.6 (0xf7dd9000)
   /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xf7f27000)

(a.out is a hello world program, compiled in a 32 bit machine)

Could you please send us the exact message that appears? Also it would
be nice to get the a.out file as well as the corresponding source.

To get more information, you can also try to run it under gdb to
find the problem.

Thanks,
Aurelien

Bug#430832: libc6-i386: all 32 bit programs crash

2007-06-27 Thread Luis Peñaranda
Package: libc6-i386
Version: 2.5-11
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

It worked fine in stable (2.3.6.ds1-13). When I upgraded to testing
(2.5-9), all 32 bit applications started to segfault; the same happens
in unstable. I can't even compile simple programs using ia32-libs.

-- System Information:
Debian Release: lenny/sid
  APT prefers unstable
  APT policy: (500, 'unstable')
Architecture: amd64 (x86_64)

What do you mean by crash? Could you please paste the exact error message?

Also what is the output of ldd on such a binary?
