Bug#457461: Please reevaluate bug#457461
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 [sent again, with correct list address (and friendlier subject)] Hi, Andreas Barth requested to keep severity of bug#457461 until either bugreporter or someone from the release team agreed to lower it. So, do anyone from the release team (or bugreporter) agree that the severity of this bugreport is uncalled for by now? hello, thanks for the information. So, do anyone from the release team (or bugreporter) agree that the severity of this bugreport is uncalled for by now? haven't looked at the codebase since longer so taking the changelog entries for granted. * cmdline - ignores any of the boot passed arguments even critical ones like root, rootfs or rootdelay on the TODO of the webpage, unchanged status. * missing debian arch support - for example s390 you still pretend to work everywhere * UUID, Label - apparently only works for some fs no status change, although this is even more grave as grub switched to use UUID by default. i guess this gets ignored in the same away as aboves. the debian kernel team actively encourages users to use UUID, in order to have stable boot devices. sooner or later d-i should also switch to use UUID. * missing firmware - several scsi drivers need firmware inside initramfs no loader on initramfs nor any mechanism to add it argh *documenting* your behaviour is not going to rock. an initramfs is expected to load the driver without users having to fiddle config files. there are several scsi drivers that needs it. modinfo tells it. modern linux drivers have separated firmware and we in debian always asked for it so this needs to be supported out of the box. * missing cryptsetup support see #336599 * no dmraid support * no usplash support no change * brutal hardcoding - breaks ony every new linux image either due to /proc, /sys or /boot/config hardcoded parsing see #443821 for the latest 2.6.23 variation after *years* of complaining upstream finally lowered the severity of the INPUT device warning. *ouf* thanks!! this should help not breaking installs of linux images. * dead upstream - 24 debian revisions one release after 2 years well from my side no cake, 2 points out of 9 got worked on. the most grave being no firmware support for loading your root device. best regards -- maks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Please use the Debian BTS as primary source of bug status! * cmdline - ignores any of the boot passed arguments even critical ones like root, rootfs or rootdelay on the TODO of the webpage, unchanged status. Minor: http://bugs.debian.org/340759 at least important, but falls more under grave. * missing debian arch support - for example s390 you still pretend to work everywhere Serious: http://bugs.debian.org/457461 ack * UUID, Label - apparently only works for some fs Wishlist: http://bugs.debian.org/337065 Details snipped: Please file at above bugreport, not here! again severly underflated, /etc/fstab *needs* to work with UUID. * missing firmware - several scsi drivers need firmware inside initramfs no loader on initramfs nor any mechanism to add it Fixed: http://bugs.debian.org/337065 Details snipped: Please file at above bugreport, not here! not fixed, you don't load firmware out of the box. reopend and this one is grave. why don't you use modinfo output to add the firmware in the initramfs? * missing cryptsetup support see #336599 Fixed (cryptsetup generally): http://bugs.debian.org/457464 Wishlist (dm-crypt specifically): http://bugs.debian.org/336599 highly doubt your optimistic views, anyway important. * no dmraid support Normal: http://bugs.debian.org/337724 again important * no usplash support Wishlist: http://bugs.debian.org/457466 ack * brutal hardcoding - breaks ony every new linux image either due to /proc, /sys or /boot/config hardcoded parsing see #443821 for the latest 2.6.23 variation Fixed: http://bugs.debian.org/457467 Details snipped: Please file at above bugreport, not here! ack on progress. afais you still rely on /boot/config parsing, finaly one /proc parsing error got reducedd to a warning. * dead upstream - 24 debian revisions Fixed: http://bugs.debian.org/457468 Details snipped: Please file at above bugreport, not here! well from my side no cake, 2 points out of 9 got worked on. the most grave being no firmware support for loading your root device. Thanks for your input, Max. Please file at proper bugreports next time! please spend more time on fixing code. repeating that on my side the firmware loading is grave enough to consider yaird not fit for a release. will not waste more time on this evaluation unless explictly asked. regards -- maks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Your comments reflects your personal opinion, not factual state of affairs for the packaging of yaird. Please help work on each bug instead of throwing vague opinions about them here. To remind you: This bugreport is not to discuss the details of any and all bugs in yaird. Rather, it is to discuss wether or not the *state* of yaird bugs as a whole is reason to keep yaird from getting included in an official Debian release. will not waste more time on this evaluation unless explictly asked. Then don't. My request for re-evaluation was mainly aimed at the release managers. - Jonas - -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist og Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ - Enden er nær: http://www.shibumi.org/eoti.htm -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAkh8oWQACgkQn7DbMsAkQLh+0wCghKwbJLDHElSFVrVewcIp/Q2A bfcAn1QHodWzc1aIWZtefeOkg935mAKk =+Htv -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
