Bug#567473: knetworkmanager cannot connect to wifi since nm's 0.7.999 upgrade

2010-02-13 Thread Anton Soppelsa
Hi all,

I had the same problem, and the workaround proposed by Thomas Themel worked
well.

About the upgrade of the network-menager-kde package:

It is not possible to download it for the amd64 architecture using a pakage
manager and the command

dpkg -i network-manager-kde_0.9~svn1054632-1_amd64.deb

leaves a broken package in the system.

I notice that in the experimental repository only the i386 version of the
package is shown with a green background. I don't know what's the meaning of
the background colour and I can guess that red it's not a good thing. But
what does it mean exactly? That the maintainers are aware of the fact that
it does not install itself correctly?

Sincerely,
  Anton

Bug#567473: knetworkmanager cannot connect to wifi since nm's 0.7.999 upgrade

2010-02-07 Thread Freddie Witherden
Hi all,

I suggest you try the KDE4 version from experimental or wait until this
version is uploaded to unstable. This version should work proplery with
0.7.999. In any case, I'd be interested in feedback regarding the KDE4
  version.

I have installed the applet from experimental on my testing (Squeeze) system,
however, have been unable to get it to function.

Firstly, the applet crashes plasma when it is removed. (First thing I do when
I add a widget/applet is to remove it.) The auto-bug reporter/manager gives no
helpful information so far as the trace goes.

Once added I am able to click the manage connections button and successfully
manage to add my connection. The applet also allows me to see other available
connections when adding my own.

However, the left hand side of the applet is paralysed -- clicking on the Wifi
'button' (large on the left hand side) has no effect, nor does clicking the
Connections button in the top-right of the applet. In effect, I can do nothing
other than click manage connections or enable/disable networking/wireless.

I have no doubt that these bugs will be fixed in the near future.

I can, however, report that the UUID fix worked. Since many are uncomfortable
installing from experimental (and, as in my case, it does not always work) it
might be worth either blocking this version of network-manager if
knetworkmanager is installed or patching it so as to fix the UUID problem. I
hate it as much as the next person -- but it does the job -- just.

Polemically yours, Freddie.

Better use knetworkmanager (the systray applet), not the plasma widget, which is
said to be much more unstable.

Cheers,

Just tried the version from experimental, and it works very well. Great.
