startx works fine.

Note: I'm using fvwm as the window manager (no GNOME desktop).

I've downgraded the packages of mesa source to 10.1.0-5. This partly
solve the problem: after a reboot, the gdm3 screen was accessible
on vt9, but I had to switch manually. But after logging out, I get
nothing. /var/log/syslog ends with:

Bug#744152: gdm3 doesn't display anything at all anymore

2014-04-27 Thread Craig Small
Thanks Emilio. Yes, it seems that gdm3 is yet another victim of it. Along with
totem and gnome-session for starters.

Bug#744152: gdm3 doesn't display anything at all anymore

2014-04-26 Thread Craig Small
Package: gdm3
Version: 3.8.4-6
Followup-For: Bug #744152

Interestingly, or perhaps not at all, I have the same bug and I got fgrlx
running too. Not sure if it is a coincidence or not.

I don't think (and know for me definitely) it is not a gdm3 bug as such.
If I use lightdm and then a gnome-session, it also crashes with something is
wrong.
startx.. also does something is wrong.

Using lightdm and then xfce4-session gets things going, kinda.
For some reason gnome-terminal works.

I think the problem is that cogl now links to libEGL, which is not provided by
fgrlx, so mesa's libEGL gets loaded, and things explode. There are various
reports of this over the internet (google for egl fgrlx) e.g.

Bug#744152: gdm3 doesn't display anything at all anymore

2014-04-21 Thread Clemens Brauers

Hi,
I can confirm this bug, but it seems not to be with the package gdm3
directly.
After downgrading many packages and reinstalling them one by one
somewhere in this bunch should be the cause.

2014-04-10 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Package: gdm3
Version: 3.8.4-6
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

 Hi!

Since the upgrade last weekend I am unable to get any login possibility
to my X anymore with gdm3. The screen only keeps black. I can
ctrl-alt-f1 to the text console, so it doesn't freeze up completely. I
can startx /usr/bin/metacity so it's not the xorg configuration. When I
try to startx gnome-session I get that splash screen that something went
wrong and just wants to log me out (probably I should file that as a
sperate bugreport?).

Please let me know what you need to debug this further, it's pretty
tiring to have to do the startx dance and send it a terminal to do
anything graphical. :/

Thanks for looking into the issue!
Rhonda
