I have built debian packages (although I am not too familiar with building
with git) and would like to help here. I tried building partition manager
using the debain/ from kde neon on the upstream source, but the application
still crashes. Is this not the best way to do this?

Bug#794438: Partition manager does not launch

2016-12-09 Thread Herminio Hernandez Jr
Package: partitionmanager
Version: 1.0.3-2.1
Followup-For: Bug #794438

Dear Maintainer,

I am also see that partionmanager is failing to launch.

   * What led up to the situation?

I upgraded from stretch to sid and then installed partitionmanager.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

When I tried to launch partionmanger I did not even see it appear in either
krunner or app launcher. I then ran it in konsole as root and recieved the
following

root@KDE-Gazelle:/home/rican-linux# partitionmanager
partitionmanager(3762)/kdeui (kdelibs): Session bus not found
To circumvent this problem try the following command (with Linux and bash)
export $(dbus-launch)
KCrash: Application 'partitionmanager-bin' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit
KCrash: Connect sock_file=/root/.kde/socket-KDE-Gazelle/kdeinit4__0
Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/drkonqi directly
drkonqi(3765)/kdeui (kdelibs): Session bus not found
To circumvent this problem try the following command (with Linux and bash)
export $(dbus-launch)
Unable to start Dr. Konqi
Not forwarding the crash to Apport.

I then ran the command export $(dbus-launch). It ran the application but I
could not reformat my usb drive. I saw the following in konsole

root@KDE-Gazelle:/home/rican-linux# export $(dbus-launch)
root@KDE-Gazelle:/home/rican-linux# partitionmanager
partitionmanager(3801)/kdeui (kdelibs): Attempt to use QAction

partitionmanager(3801)/kdeui (kdelibs): Attempt to use QAction
"toggleDockInformation" with KXMLGUIFactory!

Bug#794438: Partition manager does not launch

2016-12-08 Thread Andrius Štikonas
Hi Boyuan,

Unfortunately, you can't port the new version from Ubuntu because Ubuntu does
not have a new version. On the other hand, neon ships a working package [1].

Actually, KDE Partition Manager 3.0 will be released on 18 December (providing
nothing critical is found), so it might make sense to package that version.

Jonathan Carter already packaged kpmcore [2] (basically non-gui parts of KDE
Partition Manager) in Debian, so that should make job of packaging GUI part of
KDE Partition Manager much easier.

Best,
Andrius

I'm willing to sponsor partition manager if someone has a well put together,
tested package.

2016-12-07 Thread Boyuan Yang
Hello,

Ping everyone,

Partition Manager will miss Stretch if we do not solve this problem (#794438),
which would be a great pity.

Anyone would like to work on this issue and solve the problem? Maybe we can
port the new version from Ubuntu to greatly reduce the efforts.

I recently updated my KDE desktop to plasma5 which entails a lot of
changes, lots of things not working yet, including this one.
partitionmanager errors out saying that root password incorrect.
This is a false positive, root password is correct.
I tested it on other programs that depend on it, like Synaptic Package
 Manager.

  * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or

I just launched partition manager from an icon in my desktop

A normal launch like in plasma4

There is a Plasma 5 compatible version of partitionmanager available upstream.
We just need to package it once the current gcc5 transition is done/far enough
along.
