Hi,

this also fixes the problem with gdm 3.14.2-2 and glx-diversions 0.6.0 .

One should thus open a bug for a package which forgets to implement this
user addition (upon an upgrade?).
Any idea of which?

Best,

Ara

All the xgreeters?
I had this bug on the 24th or 25th, and fixed it with Guy's comment
straight away.
Using lightdrm, so:

adduser lightdm video

Made a post in the Debian user forums:

2015-09-25 Thread Ara Keary
Package: glx-diversions
Version: 0.6.0
Followup-For: Bug #799948

Hi,

same problem with gdm login here also after 0.6.0 update

nvidia-* update from 340.93-1 to 340.93-2 occured at the same time on my
machine, but reverting back to 340.93-1 did not solve de problem.

Here's my Xorg.1.log

Gdm starts and stops with a grey screen 'Oops...' with no exit but to go to
text console mode

A workaround is the following:
.. stop gdm on the text console, root user:
service gdm stop
.. login on another text console on my user account
.. launch X server by:
startx

Then, no problem, no password is asked, gnome-session starts as usual.

Let me know if i can provide more information.

Best,

Ara

To solve the problem I had to revert back to glx-diversions 0.5.1.
But in order to do so, it _seemed_ that I also had to downgrade the nvidia-
driver package(s). I may have been wrong about that because I was working in a
(to me) limited console, whereas I normally do it in Konsole where I can see
much more and can (easily) scroll back to see all the output.

Indeed, reverting glx-diversions 0.5.1 requires reverting nvidia-... to
340.93-1 and solves the problem.
However, reverting nvidia-... to 340.93-1 but keeping glx-diversions to
0.6.0 does not solve it – which gives some evidence that glx-diversions
0.6.0 is the culprit.

You can try to kill gdm from a root text console and launch X through the
startx command from your user text console : then gdm should start without
crashing. It thus seems that this is in the very first stages of gdm
launching that the issue arises.

Hoping this helps ; i can't find other interesting log files than syslog
and messages, tell me if i should look another one.

Best,

Ara
