For the records, Debian package (1.8.1) is behind upstream (1.9.1), https://github.com/vgough/encfs/releases This problem about building with OpenSSL 1.1.0 seems to have been addressed upstream 11 days ago, https://github.com/vgough/encfs/pull/230 although apparently based on encfs 1.9.1, which has also been migrated to cmake. I have tried a build with new encfs 1.9.1, the two patches about openssl 1.1.0 applied, old patches disabled, cmake added to build-deps and attached simplified debian/rules. At least it builds here with openssl 1.1.0, but it should really be looked carefully by maintainer, in case something is wrong. Hope this helps, -- Agustin
