So it is not moc's fault. I can see in the debug server logs that
there are no mixers or sound devices available. Could be caused by
your .asoundrc.

What custom sound device do you have configured? Does sound work
with other apps like aplay some_file.wav?

I have to correct this statement a bit:
With an empty/removed .moc directory it's starting up again.
It wasn't working on my first attempt, because I tried it with a
different user with a different (non-working) asoundrc.

But with my old config it's not starting. The breaking change seems to
be a custom AlsaDevice that I have also configured in my .asoundrc.

Attached are the logs for r2848 and also for r2935.
With r2484 it works, then I upgrade to r2935 (besides that nothing
changes), and it stops working.
With r2935 there isn't even a client log written, because it fails so
early.

I can't reproduce. It seems your sound setting are somewhat
confused.

Could you please fire up 2.6.0~svn-r2935-1 like:
$ mocp -D
and send the logfiles mocp_client_log and mocp_server_log compressed
by PM to me?

Thanks
Elimar

Bug#848577: moc: no longer starting

2016-12-18 Thread Reiner Herrmann
Source: moc
Version: 1:2.6.0~svn-r2935-1
Severity: serious

Dear maintainer,

after upgrading moc from 1:2.6.0~svn-r2848-1 to 1:2.6.0~svn-r2935-1, it
is no longer starting:

> Running the server...

I even removed the .moc directory, to make sure there is nothing in it
that might be incompatible now, but it didn't help.
I also tried it with and without the moc-ffmpeg-plugin package.

After downgrading moc to 1:2.6.0~svn-r2848-1, it starts working again.

Regards,
  Reiner
