Given the size of the debdiff for this new upstream version, I'm very pessimistic that the release team will grant a freeze exception for this package which is why I was rather suggesting to provide the updated version through a Stretch point update or Stretch backports. Hi again, Errata corrige: I've actually uploaded to unstable. Let me know if you're happy with that, I'll ask the release team to let it enter testing. Bug#860341: libmtp-common: libmtp does not work w/ recent Android phones
Hi John, Julien, I've just uploaded libmtp 1.1.13-1 to experimental, I've tested the package and it seems that it sorts out all issues with Android newer releases. Julien, please test it and report back to me, if you're happy with the fix I'll upload it to unstable and handle all the boring bureacracy the get it promoted to testing. But over time it will impact more and more people as 40% of Android users are already on Android 6+. Control: tags -1 moreinfo Hi Julien! Thank you for your bug report. > Justification: renders package unusable > (...) > > Many Android 6+ smartphones are actually affected, > and users cannot mount them at all. While I agree that it is unfortunate that the current version of libmtp is outdated and does not support recent Android devices, I disagree about the stance that the package is "unusable". The package works fine "as is" and the fact that not all modern hardware is supported by a Debian stable release is expected. And since Debian testing is currently frozen, there is little to no chance that libmtp can be updated before the release. If you still want to try to get the package updated, it would be helpful if you could provide a debdiff with the changes between 1.1.12-1 and 1.1.13-1 of libmtp. You could then ask the release team for an exception to get libmtp updated before the Stretch release. In case updating libmtp before the Stretch release should not be possible, it will still be possible to provide an updated version of the library through strech-backports or in one of the Stretch point updates. Thanks, Adrian -- .''`.
