Bug#904302: Notification about TC discussion on possible deprecation of dpkg vendor specific patch series

2018-08-04 Thread Tollef Fog Heen

Hi,

The Debian Technical Committee has been asked to rule on whether to
disallow the use of dpkg's vendor-specific patch support in the Debian
archive. As you either maintain or are interested in a package that
uses this support, you might want to be aware of this discussion and
possibly participate. The bug number is 904302.

Best regards,

Bug#904302: Whether vendor-specific patch series should be permitted in the archive

2018-08-04 Thread Paul Gevers
Hi,

[As the main liferea uploader and the one that implemented this there.]

I don't object an alternative way of doing this, however, I am not going
to do the work. The reason why I did this was to remove the (packaging)
delta between Debian and Ubuntu because the package was often behind in
Ubuntu because of large (semi-) Ubuntu specific changes. Luckily the
technical code has been un-delta-ed some time ago, but if this is
forbidden I'll just drop the patch unless I get a patch that can be
up-streamed for this (I expect upstream to be helpful here).

Paul
