I firmly believe that this is a technical problem with the mailing

This problem affects all alioth mailing lists that I am admin for,
which includes the lists for pkg-exim4, pkg-torrus and adduser.

PAM has the following sections auth, account, password,
session. All of these are configured by default on Debian. The
implication I got when reading Marc's post (or did I read too much
into it?) is if ssh is configured to use PAM and if you use RSA based
authentication, it won't detect if the account is locked.

I fail to see where terms like authorization and authentication
fit into its configuration scheme.

If I did misread Marc's post, and pam_unix does the right thing, this
doesn't excuse pam_ldap for not doing the right thing either (as shown
in my test results I already posted).

Steve This leaks information to attackers about the state of the
Steve account.

Only if the attackers are able to successfully authenticate as you. If
they can authenticate as you, then security is potentially lost
anyway, right? ...unless the solution to the error is to update the
password, but in that case leaking the information doesn't have any
downside.

Perhaps the only exception I can think of is if the account is locked
due to too many login attempts as opposed to password expired or
account has expired or some other predictable reason. Then, yes,
that would be a problem.

sizeof(x25_address) returns the size of the typedef or variable by the
name x25_address. This isn't the same thing as the struct definition
named x25_address; in fact, they may be completely unrelated.

This is a woody vs. sarge difference. On sarge, linux/x25.h says:

struct x25_address {
char x25_addr[16];
};

so the current code, with sizeof(struct x25_address) is correct and
changing it would actually break the code. On woody, linux/x25.h says:

typedef struct {
charx25_addr[16];
} x25_address;

which means that sizeof(x25_address) is correct and the current code won't
compile (because nothing ever creates a struct x25_address, just an
anonymous struct that is typedef'd to x25_address). This is an
incompatible change in the kernel headers, and there isn't any way for the
code to compile on both systems without some additional portability work.

If you don't care about supporting woody, the current code is correct.

 compile (because nothing ever creates a struct x25_address, just an
 anonymous struct that is typedef'd to x25_address). This is an
 incompatible change in the kernel headers, and there isn't any way for the
 code to compile on both systems without some additional portability work.

 If you don't care about supporting woody, the current code is correct.

Changes:
 postgresql (7.4.8-2) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * Version 7.4.8-1 was skipped since this conflicts with the experimental
version
 postgresql-7.4 1:7.4.8-1.
   * Urgency medium: Only important and trivial fixes which must reach Sarge.
   * New upstream version; includes the security fixes from 7.4.7-6 and lots of
 medium to high critical bug fixes.

 - debian/patches/50CAN-2005-0247

 files. Closes: #304861

 the server is already stopped.
   * debian/postinst.in, debian/postgresql-startup.in: Check whether locale is
 actually valid before attempting to start initdb/postmaster under it.
 Closes: #253913
   * debian/patches/03initdb_for_debian: Add --debian-autostart to initdb,
 which is invoked in maintainer scripts, where the postmaster is started
 automatically and no how to start message is appropriate; however, show
 the message when calling initdb directly. Closes: #308686
   * debian/README.Debian: Added section First steps for the impatient.

Description:
 cacti - Frontend to rrdtool for monitoring systems and services
Closes: 309194
Changes:
 cacti (0.8.6c-8) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * import of upstream patches was b0rken. should be fixed up in this
 release.
   * removed the adodb code, as we're allready depending on libphp-adodb,
 and should have been using that instead this whole time. i also
 updated the include statement in config.php to include adodb from
 its new location.
   * only change ownership/permissions of debian.php the first time it is
 created (which should prevent local ownership/permission changes
 later on from being silently overwritten)
   * don't mask errors when you can't include debian.php
   * don't throw away stderr from cacti's cron.d file, and change MAILTO
 to send mail to root (otherwise it'd go to www-data). thanks for
 this and the preceding two fixes go to Mark Sheppard [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 (closes: #309194).

Architecture: source i386 all
Version: 1.3.82-1
Distribution: unstable
Urgency: medium
Maintainer: Sam Hartman [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Changed-By: Russ Allbery [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Description:
 libopenafs-dev - The AFS distributed filesystem- development libraries
 libpam-openafs-kaserver - The AFS distributed filesystem- kaserver PAM module
 openafs-client - The AFS distributed filesystem- client support
 openafs-dbserver - The AFS distributed filesystem- database server
 openafs-fileserver - The AFS distributed filesystem- file server
 openafs-kpasswd - The AFS distributed filesystem- old password changing
 openafs-modules-source - The AFS distributed filesystem- Module Sources
Closes: 225907 253168 303495 304040 307699 308399 308844
Changes:
 openafs (1.3.82-1) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * New upstream version. (Closes: #307699)
 - Proper locking for preempt kernels. This bug manifested as an
   inability to shut down AFS cleanly. (Closes: #308399, #304040)
 - Correctly handle the inotify semaphore. (Closes: #303495)
   * Repackage upstream to remove MacOS-specific files covered by the APSL.
 Remove the WINNT directory to save space since we have to repackage
 anyway. Provide a get-orig-source target to do the repackaging.
   * libpam-openafs-kaserver: Fix compilation so that the PAM module isn't
 missing symbols and therefore unusable. (Closes: #308844)
   * Apply patch from Chas Williams to fix stale cache data from deleted
 files, a bug introduced in 1.3.82.
   * In all cases, only build the module appropriate to the kernel we're
 building against. Building an SMP module against a non-SMP kernel
 fails due to missing defines. (Closes: #225907)
   * README.modules: Add documentation for module-assistant and recommend
 it when using Debian kernels. Mention divergences from upstream in
 module naming. (Closes: #253168) Emphasize that the kernel source
 tree used for make-kpkg must be identically configured to the kernel
 the module will be used with.
   * Update copyright with more complete information from upstream
 src/LICENSE.
   * Simplify clean target. Upstream make distclean is now better.

Semana 09/05/2005 à 15/05/2005

2005-05-15 Thread Otavio Salvador
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Durante essa semana fiz:

* Movi várias correções de erros que estavam no ramo apt--ddtp--0.6 por
descuido para o ramo apt--fixes--0;
* Portei o codigo do _debpartial-mirror_ para usar a primeira verão (ainda não
enviada para a experimental) da _python-cdd_;
* Criei o projeto do _python-cdd_ com o código inicial, baseado no
_debpartial-mirror_;
* Criei uma verão de testes do Debian-BR-CDD 1.0 pre5 para testes, que não
funcionou (testada pelo andrelop);
* Consegui autorização com o Branden para a compra dos stands para serem usados
pelos projetos Debian e Debian-BR-CDD no FISL 6.0;
* Lancei a versão 0.1.1 do Splashy e enviei a primeira revisão dele para a
_experimental_;
* Organizado SVN do projeto Splashy para começar o desenvolvimento da versão
0.2.0 porém permitir o lançamento de versões com correções de erros enquanto
isso;
* Corrigido problema que impedia a instalação completa do Debian-BR-CDD 1.0
pre5;
* Coordenado merge do ramo _apt--fixes--0_ no repositório do Michael Vogt para
merge no APT oficial;
* Lancei a penultima imagem experimental do Debian-BR-CDD 1.0 pre5;
* Corrigi mais alguns problemas do suporte ao DDTP para o APT;
* Portei as correções para o galho _apt--ddtp--0.5_ também;

Planos para a próxima semana:

* Lançar a versão final do Debian-BR-CDD 1.0 pre5;
* Unir o galho de desenvolvimento do novo tema do Debian-BR-CDD, _new-theme_,
no galho oficial do projeto;
* Organizar como vai ser feita a prensagem dos CDs para o FISL;
* Trabalhar mais com o Michael Vogt para tentar melhorar ainda mais o
  codigo do DDTP e possivelmente tentar buscar alguma forma de otimizar
  o processamento das traduções;
* Pensar em um modo melhor para as traduções do projeto DDTP. Avaliar
  a sugestão de usar o gettext para tradução;
