2009-10-26 Thread Edouard Marquez

Polytech'Nice-Sophia .

De nombreuses conférences auront lieu : Entreprise Linagora, OpenOffice.org,
April, Joomla, Perl, OpenSource...

http://jm2l.linux-azur.org/European-Smalltalk-User-Group European Smalltalk

this in the compiler and everyone wins. I'm not suggesting that there

 benefits now out-weigh the risks.

Agreed. The freeze is months away, there's plenty of time to deal
with the potential fallout of enabling this, so let's just do it.

Right. The solution has issues on both Hurd and KfreeBSD. That

Even if the security system has changed? I dont't think so

to load the security policy in the first place. Just take it that
there may be cases where it is better to abort the install rather than

Yes, it is highly sysvinit and Linux specific.

The solution was. But this is not a generic solution in the

particular manner for specific packages. If this issue has broader
impact, a more generic solution will be needed. Whic brings us to the

Seems a good idea to me. But I think we should defer the required

new[] (which currently can return a heap block which is smaller than
requested). I've got a preliminary version, but it's got a hole when
operator new[] is invoked on a variable-length array. The easy fix
would probably to outlaw heap allocation of VLAs (it's one of those C
GCC extensions that leaked into C++, and it's arguably less needed for
C++).

I believe so, but I'm not fully sure. But usplash in ubuntu is significantly
ahead of the debian version and I expect that they have put some work into
it, as a faster boot is also an ubuntu goal.

Are you (and/or whoever maintains the splash packages) aware that sysvrc in
the makefile concurrency mode (which should become the default at some
point in the future) does not handle the splash progress bar API?

No, until now, not.

I personally think that as the boot process becomes faster there will be
little point in having progress bars in splash screens (and this might be
the part of cause of the high CPU usage, but I'm just guessing that part).

Yeah, I dont think the progress bar is the most important thing usplash gives.
Getting rid of/hiding the confusing kernel messages scrolling by (*) is
what I consider the most important thing. But then, if the boot time is 60
secs, some people might prefer a progress bar still, or maybe not a progress
bar but any progress indicator of some sort. So my idea is definitly to
provide different kinds of themes, for different use cases.

(*) oh, yes, sometimes those weird messages are absolutly must have (and for
some percentage they are of course not weird at all :) But even I, who
understand them, usually just prefer my system to boot up quiet and shiny.

What are the plans for squeeze?

Having up2date usplash and a variety of themes.

I am preparing some changes to readahead-fedora to cut at least a couple of
seconds more (can be expected in less than two weeks) and even more changes
to speed it up even more. JFTR my laptop gets to the end of rc2 in 16
seconds (and to a ready-to-use password-protected desktop in ~60 seconds,
but I'm working on that too); while it used to take more than 40 seconds
just to get to the end of rc2.

Cool! Very.

Seems a good idea to me. But I think we should defer the required
full archive rebuild until we've got the hardening patch for operator
new[] (which currently can return a heap block which is smaller than
requested). I've got a preliminary version, but it's got a hole when
operator new[] is invoked on a variable-length array. The easy fix
would probably to outlaw heap allocation of VLAs (it's one of those C
GCC extensions that leaked into C++, and it's arguably less needed for
 C++).

Right, I agree with this -- I figure this release can be seen as a
transition release, where not everything is compiled that way. I don't
want to introduce so much archive churn anyway.

Of course, not. I questioned how this info can be useful, not how to write a

In any case, look at /var/lib/dpkg/info/ucf.postinst

It gives examples of where things can be put in, were you

It gives only a code template to do different things, but actually does nothing.

Graphics::GnuplotIF is a simple and easy to use dynamic Perl interface to

Several independent plots can be started from one script. Each plot has its

Essentially 3 commands, one of which is also the final commit to

The requirement not allowing source only uploads is childish at best -

Apparently, we can't depend on them to actually update their

Given the stated inability to even sync pbuilder, I think it

Hi.

Ever thought about integrating PaX [0] per default in Debian?
I'm however not sure how much this actually breaks ;)

Re: Build logs from local builds

People are lazy and like myself don't want to sync pbuilder and
related stuff every time I want to upload something. Since my box is
rarely up to date, this can result in dependencies lagging
somewhat compared to official buildd. I generally don't check for any
build-depends problems anyway with pbuilder unless buildd chokes.

And for the Arch:all packages? I guess no check for this with lazy
 maintainer.

So how do I compare with the other maintainers? Or do all maintainers
run pbuilder religiously for each upload?

I run sbuild to build every package prior to upload. It's even
configurable to update and upgrade the chroot every time it's run.

The requirement not allowing source only uploads is childish at best -
it treats DD as children that can't check their packages compile on
 their own box.

While most developers are conscientious enough to make sure their
packages build, one does see enough crap packages that IMO this
(minimal) bar should probably be kept. It's also a good sanity
check, after all, we should always make sure upgrades, removal and
purging of each binary package works prior to uploading.

Roger

No. It is not. All the re-exec init calles are only to start it with
new libs and there is no change visible for that role.

Manoj's point is that some future security library may require such
functionality.

It seems that it would always be good to be able to report errors to the
caller regardless of the consequence. The importance of the error is
determined by the importance of the subsystem which has the error, and
process 1 in Unix is very important!

Not needed. If init has been just upgraded, it has been already
  told to init -u itself.

This does not appear to be true for upstart, which it's planned to switch to

Huh, isn't that an FHS violation? /dev/initctl isn't much better, but seems

Re: sobre empaquetado en python

2009-10-26 Thread Mauro Lizaur
2009-10-25, Alejandro:

 fakeroot debian/rules binary

/usr/share/pypaquete/{imagenes,iconos}

Mauro
