Not at the moment, no, because the .tar.gz is the debianised source.

However with the new source package format this is possible in
principle, though in practice there are a few technical issues with
dpkg-source to be sorted out.

No, it wouldn't be ok.  Why don't you just use your account on master
to rebuild the source packages?  Then you could do basically what you
want.
