A chroot is especially helpful if, for example, there's a C++ ABI
difference between Ubuntu and Debian and you accidentally upload to
unstable with dependencies that can only be satifised in Debian
experimental ... :o)

I talked with Daniel Stone about it and I'll maintain it inside of
Debian.

The current lack is it have some xorg specific issues and then we need
to address it. Or leave it as is and use ddcprobe with
xdebconfigurator by now.

Yes, and use pbuilder to build the package, please. :)

(If only Ubuntu would do an effort to get their "home-made" packages
like xresprobe into Debian. :)

You can use Ubuntu and do Debian development in a chroot, or use Debian and
do Ubuntu development in a chroot. So, you're free to pick whichever you
prefer, but it will be more convenient to run the system where you will do
(more of) your development.

Ubuntu for packaging for Debian

2005-02-15 Thread Maykel Moya
I'd recently adquire a little laptop (p3 900, 256 MB RAM). I'm been
thinking to install Ubuntu in it cause Ubuntu is optimized for desktop,
but I'd like to package some stuff for Debian.

Is it advisable to use a pure Debian instead ?

Regards,
mike
