I wonder if this is really p2 and needs to be fixed for the release. Laptops,
as common and nice as they are, are not part of the default debian-edu network
architecture.

Also, is network-manager installed per default or was this an extra step you
took? Then it's your fault that it doesnt work anymore, not the default
installs :-)

I guess the component is dragged in by the laptop-task, the person who installed
the machine is a typical engaged teacher who installs Debian-edu to better use
the sparse resources the school has to provide a working ICT-environment.

And he is planning on installing debian-edu on a number of teachers laptops.
I guess he learned why he should install laptops as standalone, and not as
workstations.

But the fix was rather easy:
 allow-hotplug eth0
 iface eth0 inet dhcp

 allow-hotplug ath0
 iface ath0 inet dhcp
wireless-essid hidden to protect the guilty

Maybe the correct thing would be to mark all interfaces as allow-hotplug ?

Hi,

On Sunday 24 June 2007 13:27, Debian Wiki wrote:

The comment on the change is:
 out of date

That page was not out of date, but perfectly correct.

Sarge _is_ our current release (and the documented bug in the page was also
useful) and the status of etch page was also linked. So that page perfectly
describes the current Status of Debian-Edu, as the page name implies.

Therefore I restored the page to it's previous content.

So what's the name of the 2.0 release? It's a wiki, you can fix it :)

I also thought we would go for having our bugs and release
 blockers in bugzilla.

Sure. But I think your confusing/mixing ../Status and ../Status/Etch now :)

At least, this is the only place, where I look for
them. I also find the StatusEtch page quite outdated and I have to saythat
last time I looked at the Status page, there was some other stuff, which I
 considered not useful.

I'm all for removing those parts of the Status/Etch page, which are (better)
tracked in bugzilla. But there are quite some issue only documented on that
wikipage, which are not in bugzilla. Just removing them (which you havent
done..) is wrong.

Adding allow-hotplug to the interfaces sounds like the right fix to me.

You need to boot with 'expert' or 'expertgui' to be able to do manual

You should have been able to read that in the non-existing
documentation :-(

I've never used usplash before (I'm a happy splashy user), but taking a look at
debian-edu-config,it seems this patch could fix the bug. I don't dare to upload
it with my knowledge of usplash, maybe somebody who knows it better could take
a look at it:

Documentation, and generic questions

2007-06-29 Thread Valerio Pachera

I'm not subscribed to this list.
i would like to know:

1-is the wiki documentation
(http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/Documentation/Manuals) refeared to
the stable version of skolelinux? Is it appliable to the testing
version?

2-when do you think to release the new stable verions?
Is there a roadmap on the wiki? I didn't find it (but I'm reading fat now).

3-I downloaded the dvd (testing) and found a problem. Should I post
the message in this list or is it better in the admin-discuss
(https://init.linpro.no/mailman/skolelinux.no/listinfo/admin-discuss)?
Ok, I'll say it anyway :-) :when I was trying to install debian-edu

obbligated to terminate the installation.
The machine was a kaptop Asus A6Vm and I chose Main server and LTSP

4-I just have the image file of the DVD, does rsysnc re-download it
all, or only the the differences? In ather words, is it faster?

I'm workin on a project for use Linux in a elementary school.
Skolelinux seems to match perfectly what we need. I will do my best to
help this project.
I hope I/we'll be able to install the new version of skolelinux (based on etch).

Thanks for you great job.

If you just want to use manual partitioning, but beside that have a more or
less debian-edu installation (also with one additional profile),you should
use linux debian-edu-expert as boot options. The debian-edu-expert mode is
a special debian-edu mode, which also has manual partitioning. The
normal expert mode would give you a debian expert mode, which is quite
different.

Cheers
Steffen

Well, debian-edu-expert is not documented if you press f2-f8 at the
boot screen of the CD.

And if you select expert, you get some extra options, yes, but
debian-edu-profile is automaticly included.

I'm not sure if it possible to avoid to selecting a profile if you
select debian-edu-expert (not sure if it should be possible)

I've done quite some installations this week using expert mode.
