building gcc-3.1-3.1ds2 on powerpc
Hi i wanted to play with gcc-3.1, so i added deb-src http://ftp-master.debian.org/~doko/gcc/ ./ to apt.sources and tried to build from source. It looks like the build got pretty far, but failed towards the end because it tried to install stuff into /usr/local After 'apt-get source gcc-3.1' i ran 'dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot' Here's the error i get: make[6]: Entering directory `/home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2/build/powerpc-linux/nof/libstdc++-v3' Making install in include make[7]: Entering directory `/home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2/build/powerpc-linux/nof/libstdc++-v3/include' make[8]: Entering directory `/home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2/build/powerpc-linux/nof/libstdc++-v3/include' make[8]: Nothing to be done for `install-exec-am'. /bin/sh /home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2/src/libstdc++-v3/../mkinstalldirs /usr/include/g++-v3-3.1 mkdir /usr/include/g++-v3-3.1 make[8]: *** [install-data-local] Error 1 make[8]: Leaving directory `/home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2/build/powerpc-linux/nof/libstdc++-v3/include' make[7]: *** [install-am] Error 2 make[7]: Leaving directory `/home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2/build/powerpc-linux/nof/libstdc++-v3/include' make[6]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1 make[6]: Leaving directory `/home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2/build/powerpc-linux/nof/libstdc++-v3' make[5]: *** [multi-do] Error 1 make[5]: Leaving directory `/home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2/build/powerpc-linux/libstdc++-v3' make[4]: *** [install-multi] Error 2 make[4]: Leaving directory `/home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2/build/powerpc-linux/libstdc++-v3' make[3]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2/build/powerpc-linux/libstdc++-v3' make[2]: *** [install-target-libstdc++-v3] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2/build' make[1]: *** [stamps/07-install-stamp] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/rob/src/gcc/gcc-3.1-3.1ds2' make: *** [stamps/07-install-stamp] Error 2 I'm curious if anyone else has seen this problem building gcc-3.1 as a non-root user. Did i miss a trick somewhere? He's been on holiday :-) If he isn't totally back for a day or two more, I'll see if I can fix this for him so that he can just do the upload when he does return. In the meantime, I can generate a set of debs for any of the archs that I have here (alpha, i386, powerpc, hppa, sparc, mips) and post them, if someone wants to try out 3.1 until then...of course, powerpc, i386, and alpha would be the fastest to build, so bear that in mind if anyone requests a set and encounters a delay :-) C -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
