Bug#381905: marked as done (linux-kernel-headers: NGROUPS_MAX doesn't match the kernel and causes test failures)
Your message dated Sun, 8 Oct 2006 04:26:54 -0400 with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line ngroups has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: linux-kernel-headers Version: 2.5.999-test7-bk-17 Severity: important The setgroups test from the ltp (Linux Test Project http://ltp.sourceforge.net/) testsuite has unexpected behavior on Debian Sarge. The test fails reporting that setgroups() call succeeded when trying to set more groups that NGROUPS_MAX. We have tracked this down to a mismatch in the definitions of NGROUPS_MAX between the 2.6.8 Debian kernel and the linux-kernel-headers package. The linux-kernel-headers package defines this value as 32, while the kernel defines it as 65535. When the test tries to retrieve this maximum value using the sysconf() call, it gets the value of 32 that was retrieved from glibc and specified by /usr/include/linux/limits.h, which is part of the linux-kernel-headers package. The test then tries to issue a setgroups() call with the number of groups set to NGROUPS_MAX+1 (33) which is less then the kernel maximum (65535), and thus the call succeeds when it should really fail. It is important to specify proper limits for this. This is a request to set NGROUPS_MAX to 65535, so it matches the kernel, in linux-kernel-headers package. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 Architecture: ia64 Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-3-mckinley-smp Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) -- no debconf information ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- linux/limits.h currently has 65535 ---End Message---

Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: linux-kernel-headers Version: 2.6.13+0rc3-1 Hi, bayonne FTBFS on various arch, giving the following error : /usr/include/linux/ixjuser.h:351: error: expected ';' before '*' token It complains because of yet another extra __user present : typedef struct { int elements_used; IXJ_CADENCE_TERM termination; IXJ_CADENCE_ELEMENT __user *ce; } IXJ_CADENCE; Removing the '__user' or adding an extra #include linux/compiler.h fixed the problem on my sparc. I leave it to you to decide which solution is the best, as I don't know the full consequences of each. BTW, if someone can explain why it failed on mips, mipsel, arm, and sparc, but succeded on i386 and powerpc, I am interested :) FTBFS on other arch (alpha, hppa, ia64, s390) are due to other issues. glibc override disparity
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the override file for the following file(s): libc6-i386_2.3.6.ds1-6_amd64.deb: package says priority is optional, override says standard. Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why. [NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you replied to one like it before and have not received a response yet, please ignore this mail. Your reply needs to be processed by a human and will be in due course, but until then the installer will send these automated mails; sorry.] -- Debian distribution maintenance software (This message was generated automatically; if you believe that there is a problem with it please contact the archive administrators by mailing [EMAIL PROTECTED]) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#391529: Etch installer freezed by tzdata
reassign 391529 debian-installer thanks Ali Moreno a écrit : Package: tzdata Version: 200661-1 I'm trying to install etch beta3 in a server, when the installation pass the partitioning process and begin to install configure the base system it was frozen by the configuration of package tzdata... Finding a bug... y encountered that the package early come to etch in [2006-10-03] tzdata 2006l-1 MIGRATED to testing http://packages.qa.debian.org/t/tzdata/news/20061003T223925Z.html (Britney). see http://packages.qa.debian.org/t/tzdata.html http://packages.qa.debian.org/t/tzdata.html . Well if you used d-i installer etch beta3, you have installed the old version of tzdata. The configuration that i trying to install is in a SATA RAID1 disks of 80GB, with /boot how ext3, / how a crypt partition (dm-crypt + aes) and normal swap. Please correct this when you could. I've make this installation with this settings before the sundae :P Well I have used d-i installer etch beta3 a dozen of times without problem, so my guess is that there is another problem in d-i. I am therefore reassigning this bug to debian-installer, where some people will be able to help you to debug this problem, because I have no idea how to debug it. -- .''`. Please contact me immediately.) This is a symptom of being built with 4.1.1ds1-14, already fixed in 4.1.1ds1-15. It will interfere with both thread cancellation and debugging. I don't know what other platforms may be affected but it should be easy to check. reassign 391529 tzdata severity 391529 serious thanks On Sunday 08 October 2006 14:58, Frans Pop wrote: I'm trying to install etch beta3 in a server, when the installation pass the partitioning process and begin to install configure the base system it was frozen by the configuration of package tzdata... Finding a bug... y encountered that the package early come to etch in [2006-10-03] tzdata 2006l-1 MIGRATED Aurelien Jarno traced this problem to tzdata asking a non-debconf question on upgrade. This happens because the package installed during base installation (from CD) is upgraded during pkgsel/tasksel (from the mirrors). Note that a change has been committed in D-I component tzsetup (1:0.11) that may prevent this is the future: we now configure the timezone immediately after base installation instead of at the end of the installation. This means it is probably only a temporary problem that will affect some Beta3-based installations (though the most used ones) until the release of D-I RC1. pgpZ8VVO1MICk.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#391529: Etch installer freezed by tzdata
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello, Aurelien Jarno escreveu: reassign 391529 tzdata severity 391529 serious thanks Hi, I am now able to reproduce this bug. The problem is that the postinst of tzdata ask a question to the user, not via debconf, so it is not displayed. The bug has been triggered by the fact the version of tzdata in d-i beta3 and testing is different. The solution is to rewrite the postinst of tzdata + tzconfig using debconf. Ok, fine that you found it. However, in the meantime, I managed to setup a basic infrastructure to let me test the latest netinst image (http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/20061008/i386/iso-cd/debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso with md5sum f256549427efa2782f0253fc29553caf). I just finished doing a test install and this time the problem didn't showed up. I don't know if there's a difference on how tzdata is installed between full CD images and netinst images but somehow this time the problem wasn't there. And yes, tzdata is installed on the target system. I just turned on the virtual machine where the test install metioned above was done and could see that tzdata is there at version 2006l-1. That was exactly the same version I had problems with on my first install in the last friday. The only difference in today's install from friday's install (apart from the former being a netinst iso-cd install from today and later being a full CD image install) is that in the later (the one which the problem was detected) I opted to install the Desktop environment task and the Standard system task. In today's install, which worked fine, I only selected the Standard system task, but tzdata was installed anyway so I don't think it had anything to do with this problem. Reporting just to let you guys know about these details. Package: glibc Version: 2.5-0exp1 Tags: experimental Severity: serious see #374535, it's the GNU_TYPE, not the Debian architecture. $ find /usr/include/ -name stubs*/usr/include/gnu/stubs.h /usr/include/gnu/stubs-32.h /usr/include/ppc64-linux-gnu/gnu/stubs.h /usr/include/ppc64-linux-gnu/gnu/stubs-64.h the headers on powerpc/powerpc64 are identical, so you may install them directly in /usr/include/ as well. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: Problem with tzdata
BaKi_ThE_GrAppLeR a écrit : Hello Hi, pleaz i ve found nobody to help me so i found your mail, and i decided to disturb you im sorry for that I want to install aiglx and compiz and i need some librairies to do that to install libc6 i need tzdata and my problem comes from it the problem is that when i install tzdata the pc tell me that there is a problem of dependance with the local package which contain /usr/share/zoneinfo/Africa/Algiers and something else is strange, i can see that libc6 is already installed in my computer but for some other package they told me to install libc6 like if it wasnt installed Anyway the real problem is tzdata i tried to delete it but i obtained the same message I don't really understand what you are trying to do. How are you installing libc6 and tzdata ? And which release are you using (sarge, etch, sid) ? The best would be to send a log of what you are trying to do, so that we can see the error messages.
