eglibc override disparity

2009-11-23 Thread Archive Administrator
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

libc6-i386_2.10.2-1_amd64.deb: package says priority is optional, override says
standard.

Please note that a list of new sections were recently added to the
archive: cli-mono, database, debug, fonts, gnu-r, gnustep, haskell,
httpd, java, kernel, lisp, localization, ocaml, php, ruby, vcs, video,
xfce, zope. At this time a script was used to reclassify packages into
these sections. If this is the case, please only reply to this email if
the new section is inappropriate, otherwise please update your package
at the next upload.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please file a bug against ftp.debian.org and
explain why. Please INCLUDE the list of packages as seen above, or we
won't be able to deal with your request due to missing information.

Please make sure that the subject of the bug you file follows the
following format:

Subject: override: BINARY1:section/priority, [...], BINARYX:section/priority

Include the justification for the change in the body of the mail please.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you already filed a bug
and have not received a response yet, please ignore this mail. Your bug
needs to be processed by a human and will be in due course, but until
then the installer will send these automated mails; sorry.]

Package: libc6-dev
Version: 2.10.1-7
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

It would be nice if we could ship a glibc with KSM support, which is
very useful for people running virtualization environments. I proposed a
patch at:
http://www.eglibc.org/archives/patches/msg00784.html

But at:
http://www.eglibc.org/archives/patches/msg00793.html

I was told to wait for upstream GNU glibc support, for a routine merge.

KSM will be present in the 2.6.32 kernel, which is going to be released
soon. It might be nice if Debian could include this patch earlier, since
for us eglibc is the default libc, so that as soon as that kernel is out
and the kvm/qemu people package a version with KSM support, the
compilers will pick up the flag and KSM will work in unstable/squeeze.
(qemu/kvm code has an #ifdef which means that they will be compiled
without kvm if glibc doesn't have the flag)

Thanks,

Guido

Package: eglibc
Version: 2.10.1-7
Severity: important
Tags: patch

NSS plugins wishing to provide data to programs calling getaddrinfo() must
implement two procedures named:

   _nss_foo_gethostbyname4_r() and
   _nss_foo_gethostbyname2_r().

The function gaih_inet() in libc dynamically loads and calls these procedures
and then attempts to combine the results from all available plugins.

Unfortunately, in the following scenario, the combination step is performed
incorrectly:

  1. Install your NSS plugin so that it is called after the
 libnss_dns-2.10.1.so plugin.

  2. Remove your default route.

  3. Call getaddrinfo(NODE, SERVICE, NULL, results).

The problem is that the third call, internally, results in a call to

  _nss_dns_gethostbyname4_r()

which returns NSS_STATUS_UNAVAIL with herrno = TRY_AGAIN. This combination of
return and error codes causes gaih_inet()'s logic to set

  no_data = -3.

This variable is used to signal to the rest of the gaih_inet procedure that no
results are available.

Unfortunately, when your plugin returns NSS_STATUS_SUCCESS and sets herrno =
NETDB_SUCCESS, your plugin's results will be *ignored* because gaih_inet
exits its loop without resetting no_data.

The attached patch fixes the problem for me. The patch was tested with code
from http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Dnshash.

Package: kfreebsd-8

I tried to rebuild current eglibc under kfreebsd-8,
there are some problems with *at functions. Under kfreebsd-7
we use some userspace emulation, under kfreebsd-8 we directly use
*at syscalls.

The new failed tests are:

io/tst-renameat.out
io/tst-faccessat.out
io/tst-symlinkat.out
io/tst-linkat.out
io/tst-readlinkat.out
io/tst-mkdirat.out
io/tst-mknodat.out

It needs further investigation before we could
make 8.x kernel the default one.

locale/C-time.c erroneously treats the first day of the week as
Monday; this wasn't apparent until cal properly handled the first day
of the week in locales.

This was fixed upstream in
http://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=commitdiff;h=930799d555e9534cf78f57fa88642a4a43d278f4
which presumably also properly fixes #327025.

Package: libc0.1

Severity: normal

The C standard requires remove() to delete both files and directories.
This works correctly with the Linux kernel, but under kFreeBSD, remove()
fails with Operation not permitted when applied to a directory. I'm
not able to debug this in detail because gdb crashes and kdump hasn't
been ported, but I would guess that remove() is calling unlink() and
expecting that to return EISDIR, rather than EPERM, when applied to a
directory.

This is the cause of, at least, FTBFS bug 537919.

Package: libc6
Version: 2.10.1-7

Programs which use getaddrinfo() to resolve addresses fail most of the
time. I tried to get to the bottom of the error and came up with the
following little program, that exhibits the error.

test.c
===
#include errno.h
#include stdio.h
#include netdb.h
#include string.h

int main(void)
{
struct addrinfo * result;
int error;

error = getaddrinfo(ftp.de.debian.org, http, NULL, result);
if(error != 0)
{
fprintf(stderr, error in getaddrinfo: %d / %s\n, error,
gai_strerror(error));
if(error == EAI_SYSTEM)
{
fprintf(stderr, system error: %d / %s\n, errno,
strerror(errno));
}

return 1;
}
freeaddrinfo(result);

return 0;
}
===

The output is as follows, which seems wrong in itself to me.
===
error in getaddrinfo: -11 / System error
system error: 0 / Success
===

Now the thing is, when I replace the service string http with NULL,
it works perfectly. But ftp.de.debian.org:http for instance is what
aptitude wants to query and it fails which makes my system
un-upgradable at the moment.

Thanks for your time,

Hagen.

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,

while trying to fix the package sauerbraten for binutils-gold (I'm
working with version 2.20-4) I stumbled over a problem with objcopy
when it's called from dh_strip to generate the binary debug package
sauerbraten-dbg.

Building the package with DH_VERBOSE=1 shows up this error:

dh_strip -psauerbraten --dbg-package=sauerbraten-dbg

debian/sauerbraten/usr/lib/games/sauerbraten/sauer_client
objcopy --add-gnu-debuglink

Is this a known problem with binutils-gold?

Package: eglibc
Version: 2.10.1-7
Severity: important
Tags: patch

NSS plugins wishing to provide data to programs calling getaddrinfo() must
implement two procedures named:

   _nss_foo_gethostbyname4_r() and
   _nss_foo_gethostbyname2_r().

  _nss_dns_gethostbyname4_r()

which returns NSS_STATUS_UNAVAIL with herrno = TRY_AGAIN. This combination of
return and error codes causes gaih_inet()'s logic to set

  no_data = -3.

Package: libc6
Version: 2.10.1-7
Severity: important

Hi,

libc2.10 and 2.11 have a race in free() that causes apps that use
threading a lot to crash if MALLOC_CHECK_ is set to 3. This is already
reported upstream (http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=10282)
and will be fixed in 2.11.1. It would good to have this fix in debian
earlier than 2.11.1, reason is simply so that such crashes can be
trusted again instead of having to suspect the libc bug. See also
http://www.purinchu.net/wp/2009/11/16/malloc_check_-crashes/

   This seems to be an intermittent error, but I've seen it several times

  How often are you seeing this problem? I have done dozens of build of

  Could you please send use the content of

  Are you using an up to date sid chroot to build eglibc, do you use
  modified packages?

  Finally what is your kernel version? Do you have any additional patches?

 Any news on that?

I can't seem to reproduce the bug at will, even by running the mqueue5
executable multiple times in a row. And unfortunately, usually the unpacked
pbuilder chroot is gone by the time I see this error, so I haven't been able
to check mqueue5.out.

Actually, I think that the previous times I saw an mqueue5 failure, it was in
the amd64 tests building eglibc in an i386 chroot on an amd64 machine. This
is probably the first time I saw it in a pure amd64 build. So maybe it's
easier to reproduce in that situation.

 gethostbyname seems to ignore the order line in my /etc/host.conf.

The order keyword in /etc/host.conf is not supported anymore for quite
some time, as it has been replaced by /etc/nsswitch.conf which allow a
more fine configuration.

The manpage should be updated to reflect that.

eglibc override disparity

2009-11-23 Thread Archive Administrator
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

libc6-i386_2.10.2-2_amd64.deb: package says priority is optional, override says

I have at least two systems where /etc/locale.gen contains two copies of the
en_US.UTF-8 line. On both, one copy is present in alphabetical order with the
rest, and the other copy is near the end of the file. Reconfiguring locales
does not remove the duplicate, and localegen wastes time by building the same
locale twice.

On one system, my /etc history indicates that the change occurred on the
upgrade to version 2.9-4 of locales (from version 2.7-18). The version number
is likely not significanta, the significant thing seems to be that this was
the first upgrade of locales after the initial installation. At that
time, locale.gen was changed as follows, note the addition of a dup entry.

I suspect this has something to do with d-i (localechooser) appending an
uncommented entry to the file, but the uncommenting of the duplicate entry
seems to be done by locales, and I think this should be fixed in locales.

Package: libc-bin
Version: 2.10.1-7
Severity: serious
Justification: Can break upgrade

  Hi,

  I just tried to upgrade an unstable system (that has not been upgraded for
several months). The upgrade fails due to postinst scripts trying to use
getent. It seems to me that the problem is that getent is upgraded but not yet
working because the new libc6 is not yet unpacked.
  I reported this bug against libc-bin but I'm not sure it must be here.
I saw that libc-bin does not depends on libc6 (perhaps to avoid circular
dependencies). However, there is a problem that need to be fixed.

  Here is the problematic part of my apt-get dist-upgrade:
Préparation du remplacement de libpam0g 1.0.1-9 (en utilisant
