Bug#468801: libc6: RFC3484 scoping rules should only affect IPv6, not IPv4

2010-04-22 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Tore Anderson a écrit :
 * Marco d'Itri

 Agreed. Can the libc maintainers please comment on this issue?

 The next Debian release will be used in a period in which more and more
 sites will deploy IPv6 and we must be sure to not make them less
 reliable for the people adopting transition mechanisms.

 Just adding some information here - I've asked a number of other
 distributors, and currently Debian is the only one that has not yet
 applied the patch to its developement branch (or stated an intention to
 do so).  See:

 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=577626
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/glibc/+bug/555210
 http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=315977
 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=597616
 https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=58834

I will apply the patch if I got some time to work on glibc again.

Bug#578816: libc6 doesn't build with binutils 2.20

2010-04-22 Thread Philip Ashmore
Package: libc6
Version: 2.7-18lenny2
Severity: normal

I downloaded glibc-2.7 using
   apt-get source libc6
I then did
   cd glibc-2.7
   dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
The build failed as configure.in doesn't accept binutils 2.20,
only 2.1[3-9]*
I installed gcc-4.4.2-9, but the build used gcc-4.3.2, in case
that helps.

eglibc override disparity

2010-04-22 Thread Archive Administrator
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

locales_2.10.2-7_all.deb: package says section is localization, override says
libs.

Please note that a list of new sections were recently added to the
archive: cli-mono, database, debug, fonts, gnu-r, gnustep, haskell,
httpd, java, kernel, lisp, localization, ocaml, php, ruby, vcs, video,
xfce, zope. At this time a script was used to reclassify packages into
these sections. If this is the case, please only reply to this email if
the new section is inappropriate, otherwise please update your package
at the next upload.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please file a bug against ftp.debian.org and
explain why. Please INCLUDE the list of packages as seen above, or we
won't be able to deal with your request due to missing information.

Please make sure that the subject of the bug you file follows the
following format:

Subject: override: BINARY1:section/priority, [...], BINARYX:section/priority

Include the justification for the change in the body of the mail please.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you already filed a bug
and have not received a response yet, please ignore this mail. Your bug
needs to be processed by a human and will be in due course, but until
then the installer will send these automated mails; sorry.]

Hello,

Rule 2 of the Destination Address Selection algorithm in RFC3484
specifies:

| Rule 2: Prefer matching scope.
| If Scope(DA) = Scope(Source(DA)) and Scope(DB)  Scope(Source(DB)),
| then prefer DA. Similarly, if Scope(DA) Scope(Source(DA)) and
| Scope(DB) = Scope(Source(DB)), then prefer DB.

This rule makes lots of sense for IPv6 addresses - hosts should not try
to use link-local destinations with global source addresses or
vice-versa.

However, glibc extends this rule to IPv4 as well: private RFC1918 IPv4
addresses are taken as a different scope from public IPv6 addresses.
This does not make much sense, especially with the widespread adoption
of Network Address Translation.

Because of this, a host with a (NATed) private IPv4 address and a 6to4
(2002::/16, global scope) or Teredo (2001:0::/32, global scope) IPv6
address will first try to use 6to4 or Teredo to reach any native IPv6
destination. Because 6to4 and especially Teredo are by design not very
reliable (depends on public relay), this often breaks connectivity
between 6to4/Teredo and native IPv6 nodes. IPv4 should be preferred.

Note that Windows (which could perhaps? be taken as the reference
implementation of RFC3484??) does prefer IPv4 in this case. Also note
that this make the separate 6to4 and Teredo _labels_ from inside the
Linux kernel and from /etc/gai.conf pretty useless. Finally, it violates
the RFC4380 requirement that Teredo be used as a last resort - i.e.
after IPv4.

Unfortunately, Rule 2 cannot even be configured or overriden in anyway.
The first configurable rule is number 5.

Trivial patch follows:

Severity: wishlist

File issock.c:

#include sys/stat.h
int foo(mode_t mode) { return S_ISSOCK(mode); }
int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { return foo(0); }

Compilation results:

$ gcc -std=c99 -D_POSIX_C_SOURCE=200112L -o issock issock.c
issock.c: In function ‘foo’:
issock.c:2: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘S_ISSOCK’

$ gcc -std=c99 -D_POSIX_C_SOURCE=200809L -o issock issock.c

/tmp/ccsSvaAx.o: In function `foo':
issock.c:(.text+0x16): undefined reference to `S_ISSOCK'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Using gcc -E -dM, it is possible to observe that S_ISSOCK does not get
defined as a macro at any point. With -D_GNU_SOURCE or no feature
test macros at all, issock.c compiles fine. /usr/include/sys/stat.h
on my machine has at line 146:

#if (defined __USE_BSD || defined __USE_UNIX98) \
 defined __S_IFSOCK
# define S_ISSOCK(mode) __S_ISTYPE((mode), __S_IFSOCK)
#endif

This seems to be along the lines of only defining S_ISSOCK when BSD or
X/Open features are being selected (my glance at __USE_UNIX98 yielded
vague understanding at best), but according to [1], POSIX:2001
declares that sys/stat.h defines the macro S_ISSOCK without any
extension tags (such as the XSI tag), which would seem to me to make
it a POSIX feature.

Package: libc6.1-dev
Version: 2.10.2-6
Severity: important

The include file /usr/include/bits/socket.h defines the value of
SOCK_CLOEXEC incorrectly on the Alpha architecture. It currently contains
the value for the i386 architecture. It should be the same value as
O_CLOEXEC, which, from the kernel source, is

#define O_CLOEXEC   01000

This bug will lead to a non-working udev when the patch to remove all use of
SOCK_CLOEXEC is purged from the Debian udev.

The postinst script has a non-breaking space at a very strange place:

1440   0A 09 20 20  20 20 09 20  20 20 20 69  66 20 5B 20  ...  if [

  ^  ^^

(c2 a0 is utf-8 for a0 which is a non-breaking space).

Upgrading from libc6-2.7-18lenny2 to libc6-2.10.2-6 fails to restart the

to the console:

I'm not sure whether this is an error caused by the postinst for 2.7-18lenny2,
or by the new 2.10.2-6.

Hi,
Line 165 of libc6's postinst includes some sort if extended character
(0xc2?) that gives rise to the following error:

/var/lib/dpkg/info/libc6.postinst: line 165: [: missing `]'

The character seems to be in real column 64.

Hi,

In debian/rules:
# We use a wrapper script so that we only include the bare
# minimum in /usr/lib/debug/lib for backtraces; anything
# else takes too long to load in GDB.

This information is no longer correct, libc6 packaging does not contain
this wrapper anymore, as the changelog at version 2.9-4 shows:
  * rules.d/debhelper.mk: don't strip debugging symbols. Remove
debhelper.in/libc-dbg.{install,lintian} and wrappter/objcopy.
control.in/libc: update description of libc-dbg.  Closes: bug#516516.

Please note, that there is a typo here, wrapp_t_er, this increased my
confusion about the wrapper even more, because at first sight my grep
didn't find this entry, fun :)

Anyway, please remove the incorrect info from debian/rules.

Thanks,
Gergely

Hi,

If the equivalent of this happens, then pthread_cancel segfaults:

static pthread_t p;
int main(void)
{
pthread_cancel(p);
}

Culprit would appear to be in pthread_cancel.c:

  /* Make sure the descriptor is valid. */
  if (INVALID_TD_P (pd))
/* Not a valid thread handle.  */
return ESRCH;

Which expands in nptl/pthreadP.h to:
# define INVALID_TD_P(pd) __builtin_expect ((pd)-tid = 0, 0)

and Kaboom QED.

SuS would appear to allow us to explode with an 'uninitialised' pthread_t,
or at least doesn't expressly forbid it anywhere I can see, but it would
seem better if we still didn't with a 'default initialised' variable.

I don't really expect this to work in compliant code, so I won't object
if you wontfix or close it, but it surprised me enough to look and point.

Cheers,
Ron
