We can't tell if you don't post your sources.list.

 or is it not possible to upgrade from the -02 release to the -06
 release?

There is no reason why it should not be possible.

 Sorry, i guess i wasn't clear enough. The repository i used was in the
 default sources.list that came with the install.
 
 deb http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian unreleased main
 
 when i changed it to :
 
 deb http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian unstable main

This is not a complete archive. Just use an official archive, e.g.

deb http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian unstable main

See http://www.debian.org/ports/hurd/hurd-install

Thanks!
I'll give it a try once i've managed to get a working installation!
I've just ordered a RTL8139 card so hopefully i will be able to run the
latest version of debian hurd soon.
