Hi,

the superkaramba man page stub refers to documentation in GNU Info

calling up pinfo superkaramba just shows the same man page stub.

The superkaramba package is severely underdocumented. It only contains
a man page stub and a KDE help file with an FAQ that concentrates on
issues irrelevant for Debian users.

In the current state, it is nearly useless for me.

Hello

Since one of the last updates kmail has started generating a DSN Message to the
sender when a message is bounced.

I couldn't find any way to turn it off in the settings.

I mostly use 'bounce' to bounce wrongly directed messages to our support
address. The bounce then
reveals my personal email address to the customers which is not what I desire.

I even more often use 'bounce' to recirect spam to my spamtrap (doing some
bayes learning etc.).

This creates a DSN to the fake sender address of the spam mail which is one of
the badest things to do.

Bug#567528: package due to unfulfilled dependency

2010-03-28 Thread Marcos Dione
Package: python-kde4
Severity: normal

today I did these steps:

$ sudo apt-get build-dep python-kde4
$ apt-get source python-kde4
$ cd kdebindings-4.3.4
$ fakeroot ./debian/rules binary
$ cd ..
$ sudo dpkg -i python-kde4_4.3.4-1_amd64.deb

it compiled and installed without any complaints. I'm not sure what it
means, but at least looks like a workaround.

---BeginMessage---
Package: kdepim-kio-plugins
Version: 4:3.5.9-2
Severity: normal

I use kmail with spamassassin to get and read my e-mail. I receive tons of spam
since my address is public (you can find it at a lot of
places, not the least Debian BTS) but I receive legitimate messages at the same
address. It is an IMAP account.
Kmail regularly checks for new e-mail. It is normal to download complete
messages to check them through spamassassin. But the problem is that
kmail, through kio-imap, download every message every time. So all messages are
completely downloaded, checked and then reuploaded all times,
thus wasting a lot of bandwidth and (even worst) time.
Sometimes, so much time than the next regular check starts just after finishing
uploading messages from the previous.

Is not possible to make kio-imap to cache which messages have been spamassassin
checked?

Problem is reproducible:
1 take an IMAP account on some server
2 configure kmail to check that account regularly, with a relatively short
period
3 configure kmail to check all incoming messages through spamassasin (standard
local spamassassin)
4 publish your e-mail address

This problem causes another, harder one. Sometimes, if you have a small failure
in your internet connexion, or just a burst of load, kmail
starts a new check without finishing the previous one, and shows you the same
message several times on screen. It has happened a lot of
times, and I've checked into the server real directories and there are no such
messages there. So there is some sort of caching, but it does
not work well. If you click one of the repeated messages, kmail downloads it
and shows it to you. If you click the other, kmail shows you an
empty message. Refreshing does not help. Trying to move the empty message to
another folder of the same IMAP account causes kmail to crash.

If you restart kmail almost immediately, since kio-imap4 is still alive, the
problem persists and you still see duplicated messages (I've
seen once octuplicated messages, and several times triplicated and
quadruplicated ones).

To put in one sentence: kmail+spamassassin on IMAP sucks (not intended to be
offensive, just my feeling). And I need kmail and spamassasin
because my local folders are maildir and i receive tons (not uncommon 200/day)
spam messages.

Bug#573865: /usr/bin/kolourpaint: no entry in gnome application menu

2010-03-28 Thread Pino Toscano
reassign 573865 gnome-menus
thanks

Alle domenica 14 marzo 2010, Stéphane Blondon ha scritto:
 However kolourpaint.desktop files exists:
 steph...@degtyarov:~ $ locate kolourpaint |grep desktop
 /usr/share/app-install/desktop/kolourpaint.desktop
 /usr/share/applications/kde4/kolourpaint.desktop
 /usr/share/gnome/applications/kde4/kolourpaint.desktop

But it's not displayed in Gnome (perhaps it's ok in KDE?).

Correct, because the gnome-menus package for some reason blacklists
various KDE entries from the GNOME menu. Without this, kolourpaint would
be shown nicely in the GNOME menu, as kolourpaint's .desktop file has no
desktop environment constraints.

[I'm considering this RC, but filing as important nonetheless for now]

koffice embeds a copy of xpdf, which causes a huge maintenance overhead
whenever a security problem in found in xpdf.

For Lenny koffice should link against the library version of the xpdf
source, poppler.

Cheers,
Moritz

KArm allows you to set the time, after which it will display the idle
detection dialog. (Settings-Configure Karm-Behaviour-Detect desktop as idle
after XX min) Pitily, it doesn't honor that setting. Default value is 15
minutes, but the idle dialog is displayed after about one minute, no matter
what.

I am not sure what those files contain; they primarily seem to be binary NULL
and random binary data, but they certainly shouldn't be visible to the child
process as far as I can tell.

Package: akregator

Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Akregator freezes for around 5 seconds and does not respond at all.
This happens every half a minute, but it is random. It does not seem to be
related with a given
action. This bug makes the use of it very annoying.
I have around 150 sources with 5000 messages in total. I have attached gdb to
it when it freezes and produced
two stack traces that I attach. I have also profiled akregator with oprofile to
show the functions that hog the CPU.
This are the first lines output from opreport -a --symbols -m all:

Subject: kmix: channel settings change with new login
Package: kmix
Version: 4:3.5.9-2
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
kmix offers a bunch of channels of which I only have two activated
and displayed.

Since a few days these settings change with every new login. I first
thought of a manipulation in my account, as the mic was activated.
But with the following logins other channels got activated.

I set severity to important as this way I don't have control over the
audio input and output of my peripherals.

I have a Phenom processor with 4GB RAM, and when Window Effects are actived
on KDE4, change window to Konsole (Alt + TAB) it's slow, 1 or 2 seconds.

Sometimes when I'm with no patience I open xterm, but I prefer Konsole
anyway...

Other programs doesn't have this problem, and without Window Effects, this
doeesn't happens with Konsole.

Hi!

Trying to import a pkcs12 private key exported by icedove
fails with the Message «Decryption failed». I can flawlessly inspect
the same cert with «openssl pkcs12 -in $filename -info» so the
exported key seems to be fine and in a not-too-strange format.

Koffice plans for squeeze?

2010-03-28 Thread Joe Neal
Is Squeeze going to ship with any version of Koffice at all? I have papers and
documents going back nearly ten years in koffice formats and I will need to
retain access to them from time to time.

If Squeeze dosen't ship with Koffice is it expected to make a showing in
backports fairly soon after the release? Keeping a Lenny install in
VirtualBox is not my preferred solution so I'd rather keep my stable
workstation at Lenny until Koffice is available for Squeeze via backports if
that will be an option.

thanks,

JN

Well that work-around has unpleasant side effects: KMail asks for
accepting SSL certificates on every attempt to receive or send mail. I know
my self-signed SSL certs need updating, but usually it remembered to use
it anyway. When I logout and login again, the wearther applet still has
Nürnberg, Germany from wetter.com in its configuration, but it is not able
to connect. Timeout.

Hmmm, I am still experiencing this with plasma-widgets-addons

peek in the package changelog?

plasma-widget-yawp might be an alternative, but it needs a recompile and I
wonder about libweather-ion4 which seems to be a part of kdebase-workspace
source package but is not compiled for KDE 4.4.2 packages. Has it been

Nepomuk: re-checking the strigi index constantly

2010-03-28 Thread Michael Schuerig

I've upgraded to the fresh 4.4.2 packages and now Nepomuk apparently
finishes its indexing work. In my case, it stops at a (reasonable)
143.492 files. Nice.

As far as I can tell, Nepomuk periodically re-checks the index. It
blazes through the indexed folders, not taking much time per folder, but
overall, considering the number of indexed files, it takes quite a
while. Unfortunately, about as long as the checking interval. So, in
effect, Nepomuk appears to be re-checking its index most of the time, in
the process using more than 100% CPU (dual core) among virtuoso, strigi,
and other nepomukservices.

Apparently, a new
/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub nepomukstrigiservice
is started every 8 or 9 minutes. from ~/.xsession-errors I can't see
anything that indicates that these processes are crashing.

or *badly* mannered. I think that the KDE packagers have done a great job so
far, and honestly I think that they do more than is needed with regards to
posting on this list.

Anyways, balls.

Believe me or not, there are users who come to KDE forums, mailing lists or
irc channels (non-debian related) and *complain* (yes, literally) that
packages were released before official announcement and how this could be, are
they real etc etc. That statement was targeted at that group and I was really
tired to come up with better wording. Indeed, as I read it now, it may sound a
bit rude, so sorry if it offended you. I hope it is easier to understand when
you know the context.

I'd be happy if you would be a bit nicer towards the people who a responsible
for packaging kde. They do a great job and I'd prefer not to piss them off. I
felt the sentence to be a bit odd, too, but not rude in any way.

I didn't think it was rude /or/ bad-mannered either.

I figured it was simply a commentary on how the author (Modestas) half
expected a deluge of knee-jerk queries from list-members asking how on
earth Debian packages can be available before the source has even been
released by kde.org .

and I expect the answer to that is *either* that the Debian devs
work so closely with the KDE devs that they get privileged early access,
*or* that the Debian devs simply used their wit and cunning to deduce
when the source was effectively frozen and could therefore be read from
the repository without fear of missing something thus enabling
debian-...@l.d.o members to get fast access to usable packages of new
software releases (a thing that Debian users are often noted for
complaining about not getting)

and I expect that the Debian KDE devs would really rather not have
to answer a million questions about this, cos they have better things to
do ... so Modestas simply pointed out that folks could always just not
install the packages if they're worried about the state of them.

Yes, he was a bit brief (succinct ? enigmatic ?) about it.

Now I've spent the time spelling this out, so that Modestas doesn't have
to and if I'm totally wrong, he can tell me so, and I won't mind a
bit, whatever language structures he uses to do so ;)

That's multinational volunteer mailing lists for you.

Hey ho.

At this point, 99% yes. Packaging is 99% done (except debian/copyright review

The KDE release team co-ordinates with packagers and is able to provide them
access to the release tarballs a few days (rarely more than a week) before the
official release announcement is made and the tarballs appear in the public
download section of the KDE website.

The Debian Qt/KDE team may have even more privileged access to the source, as
well, but I don't know anything about that.

Everyone may check out the KDE sources at any time AFAIK. There is
anonymous SVN access and the KDE projects that are hosted at gitorius are
also publically available. Only write access is limited to trusted KDE
developers.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think that Modestas and the other
debian developers are using release source tarballs at all for KDE.

Is as simple as this: the KDE people releases the tarballs some days (I think
is a week) before the announcement, but only to packagers. Not a huge deal,
since the tag is public in SVN, but helps in many ways:

- it gives time to catch last minute problems.
- it gives time to promo team and translators to work on the announcements.
- it gives time to the packagers to do their job, so the day the announcement
is public, users that want to try the product can find it ready to use in
their distributions.

This is something that IMO is very well done by KDE. The day I read the
announcement on news sites about a new Mozilla browser, I always ask myself:
when will be packaged for Debian Sid? When will the translation be packaged
too? When will the extensions be ported and packaged so I can dist-upgrade
without removing packages with conflicts?

Modestas, and other packagers, are probably too bored to explain this again
and again.
