kde-standard depends on plasma-desktopthemes-artwork + plasma-workspace.
But plasma-workspace (KDE5) has a Breaks against
plasma-desktopthemes-artwork (KDE4)

kde-full depends on kdeartworks + kde-standard. kdeartworks is KDE4 and
depends on many packages which have an explicit Breaks from
plasma-desktop (KDE5). For example kscreensaver requires
kde-workspace-bin (KDE4) which is in conflict (Breaks) with
plasma-workspace. Also kdeartwork-style has a Breaks from
plasma-workspace. So maybe it is better to drop kdeartworks from
kde-full.

I think we need to have someone with a interest in this take ownership

Anyway, some features appear to have been lost in the upgrade. Here's
   what I'm missing so far:

   * Skype and others don't show up in the system tray any more.
Apparently, I need to install sni-qt which isn't packaged, yet. See
   https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=289t=124670

That's a pretty big transition, especially for the background that
sni-qt is dead upstream and won't come up in Debian any time soon.

Well, its how upstream decided about it.

Yes. That's a parade example of upstream not caring.

   * Plasma Search, the successor to KRunner, doesn't remember the history.
   (Really? :-O)

   * The Veromix plasmoid doesn't work anymore and there doesn't seem to be
a suitable replacement to control PulseAudio from a panel.

But, do you have sound? I seem to have lost sound completely. In
System Settings, all I can see is my hardware devices in Audio
Hardware Setup. Both the Device Preferences and Backend tabs
don't offer anything to be selected. Pulseaudio is installed, and both
mpg321 and paplay on the command line work.

Yes. But without Pulseaudio. Cause it still creates issues for me (last
issue stuttering sound in PlaneShift all reported but yet unfixed I think).

I realized that phonon needs ported libs as well, after instaling the
phonon5in4foo libraries sound is fine.

Other than that, I am having a déjà vu regarding important functions
missing from the current release, although not so bad as with KDE 4.

  Most prominent absences are

  - Screensavers (with the additional fun of the canonical solution
being use xscreensaver if you want something shiny instead of a
blank screen) and

Blanks screen just fine here. Make sure powerdevil package is installed.

Yes. I want my clock back.

Otherwise, I hate to say that I do not (yet?) see any substantial
improvement over KDE 4 other than it's qt5 now (which is probably
  important).

It feels snappier for me. But sure, that is no hard data.

I don't care about snappy if so many features are missing.

Some long standing annoying bugs got fixed.

None of the ones that annoy me every day for years.

  - It is still not possible to sensibly use a vertical panel, which is
quite important on small displays such as my 1366x768 panel which is
not high enough anyway and one doesn't want to waste Y coordinate
pixels with panels. A vertical panel is either unuseable because the
task manager fields are too small to have any valueable contents or,
on a wider panel, the icons get scaled up according to panel width so
that they fill up too much of the panel space. It is obviously still
not possible to place small icons side-by-side to each other in a wide
vertical panel.

I use a vertical panel. Granted the K menu icon is very large.

The K menu icon and all single icon launchers.

For placing icons side by side I think I used some launcher widget as you
 mentioned.

Do you still use one? Which one?

It may be that not all widgets are packages yet for Plasma 5. Maybe
there are still some missing compared to what upstream delivers.

I never said that this missing stuff was left out by the packagers. It
is just upstream not caring about the people who use their software.
Shipping a picture viewer with an incompatible kipi interface without
having kipi plugins compatible with that interface is, well, unfriendly.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#793201: kscreen: KScreen KCM crashes on startup (likely unmet package dependecies) - gdb and valgrind log

2015-07-22 Thread jrandom
Package: kscreen
Version: 4:5.3.2-2
Severity: normal

Hi,
after upgrading another set of packages (including Systemsettings5 and KScreen)
to KF5 in Testing distribution I cannot run KScreen to configure my external
monitor because it crashes on startup.

Logs suggest that some needed modules are not installed:
org.kde.kquickcontrols, org.kde.plasma.core

I installed additional package qml-module-org-kde-kquickcontrols so now
KScreen needs only org.kde.plasma.core module, however I don't know what
Debian package contains it. I tried to install plasma-workspace 5.3.2 but
there are currently many unmet dependencies which, I'm afraid, would completely
ruin my system if I proceed further;)

Thanks

Hi Leonardo! Stable actually has *all* the Qt4 stack at version 4:4.8.6+git64-
g5dc8b2b+dfsg-3+deb8u1. So I see two possibilities:
1) You need to dist-upgrade your installation before installing paraview, and
you made a typo by writing +dfsg3+deb9a1.

9a1 came from a my typo in the report.

anyway i have found the error: accidentally the install came from a disk1
of 8.1 and the other disks 8.0.

now i am updating from a different mirror and see what happen ...

it works ...
sorry for the fake report.

Re: Things possibly missing/broken from Plasma 5 on Sid?

2015-07-22 Thread Rubin Abdi
I am happy to buy (open source) hardware for a package maintainer to take
this on. My work secondary monitor no longer sets the appropriate color
profile and it's driving me up the wall.

I think we need to have someone with a interest in this take ownership
of something like this. Like someone who actively uses color meters and
such. I do find the topic .. interesting, but I neither have the time
nor the hardware to work on that. And I can't see the difference between
peach yellow and sun yellow anyways.

Bug#793347: CMake files for lupdate/lrelease should probably go in -dev-tools

2015-07-22 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
Source: qttools-opensource-src
Version: 5.4.2-2
Severity: normal

Felix pointed out on IRC that the CMake files for linguist, namely everything
under /usr/lib/a-t/cmake/Qt5LinguistTools/, should probably better shipped in
qttools5-dev-tools instead of qtbase5-dev.

The reason is simple: they are used to find those binaries, but they are
shipped in another package.

Moreover those aren't really needed in all cases and arguably development
files, so probably moving them makes more sense than making qtbase5-dev
depend on qtbase5-dev-tools.

Bug#793026: kde-window-manager: upgrade to 4:5.3.2-2 generates

2015-07-22 Thread Tsu Jan
I wanted to confirm the existence of this problem and add that the recent KDE
updates in Debian Testing paralyze important parts of KDE. For example, today,
my wireless got disconnected after upgrading plasma-nm to 4:5.3.2-1 and
systemsettings stopped working after upgrading to 4:5.3.2-2 (also see bug
#792819). All of such problems can be fixed by downgrading but that isn't a
straightforward process sometimes.

In short, it seems that there is a GENERAL and SERIOUS problem with upgrading
of KDE parts -- a problem that I've never encountered before on Debian.
