I take the opportunity to insert here a note, probably mostly for myself: the package: kdegraphics-thumbnailers (4:15.12.0-1), which is the version in experimental now, and has been (if I'm not mistaken) since 2016-02-01, has an issue which has been discussed in this thread: https://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2016/04/msg00031.html. The issue, as it has been said, is fixed "in Debian repos", but not I think in the version which is available... So in case you would have to use this 4:15.12.0-1 version you should have to apply the workaround described in the thread above. I'm pretty sure I've made myself quite unclear, whatever... Also, for those like myself who have applied the workaround, if the version that will come in unstable, and in time in testing, happens to be a newer version, don't forget then to undo the "ln -s" before the upgrade... (Like I said, mostly for myself.) Chris

Its in the process. Short summary of what I noticed. Mostly framework packages at 5.22, partly still in experimental like some packages that network manager needs (cause still broken still updated plasma- nm in archive). Yet also some initial 5.6.4 plasma packages. Not complete yet. Also a Qt 5.6.0 update with patch for fix deadlock in kded. Bug#825224: akonadi-backend-mysql: errors in selftest 5,16,17; maybe connection to severe unstability of my system?
Package: akonadi-backend-mysql Version: 1.13.0-8 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, There are many strange problems within my installation of Debian/KDE. Setting up the system new doesn't help, this is a fresh install (again...). Akonadi seems not to work properly (searching mails doesn't work plus the diverse issues described below) and gives errors in tests 5, 16 and 17 (see below). My KDE system seems to be really unstable: * dolphin 15.08.3: Crashes randomly and frequently Bug#808244 * Kontact crashes when closing. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=363431 * Search emails in Kmail/Kontact gives no results although it should. * kdeinit5 sometime crashes before log out. * Krunner crashes regularly (segmentation fault) with no visible reason as well. I have to restart it manually. Sometimes even the starter and the control bar crash leaving me unoperable. No Bug report yet as there are no debug symbols available. * VLC does'nt start related somehow to the Qt Interface plus purge VLC wants to uninstall essential KDE stuff. Bug#808244: dolphin 15.08.3: Crashes randomly and frequently
Package: dolphin Version: 4:15.08.3-1 Followup-For: Bug #808244 Dear Maintainer, I seem to have the same issue in my version of dolphin (Version 15.08.3) under KDE Frameworks 5.16.0, Qt 5.5.1 (kompiliert gegen 5.5.1) and Das xcb Fenstersystem. This is not reliably reproducable It feels like a memory usage issue, as it happens after some time of work when selecting several files or when I try to perform bigger tasks like selecting 1½GB of music in several subfolders on a stick and move it to the harddisk. Amount of memory can't be the problem. If you need additional information please tell me what you need. Odd things I noticed: Akonadi gives an error in the selftest report and doesn't work properly (searching files or mails doesn't work). It happens that the posix_fadvise function is provided by glibc as a stub, which always returns ENOSYS. The fact that the function is actually not implemented is announced by the presence of #define __stub_posix_fadvise in /usr/include/i386-gnu/gnu/stubs.h Autoconf automatically detects that in its ac_fn_c_check_func() function, but it seems that cmake unfortunately didn't integrate that kind of detection yet into check_function_exists, and thus wrongly believes the support is available. It happens that cmake has a proper check_function_exists_glibc function defined in ./Utilities/cmlibarchive/build/cmake/CheckFuncs.cmake but it doesn't seem to be shipped in the standard cmake. So the solutions I see would be: - avoid -Wl,--fatal-warnings (which may actually bring other kinds of unexpected FTBFS along upgrades of gcc or binutils in the future). - either to integrate ./Utilities/cmlibarchive/build/cmake/CheckFuncs.cmake into kio's cmake/ directory to be able to call the proper check_function_exists_glibc detection function - or to patch over src/ioslaves/file/file.cpp and file_unix.cpp's #if HAVE_FADVISE into #if HAVE_FADVISE && !defined(__hurd__) (but once hurd-i386 gets posix_fadvise support it should get reverted). There are also symbols differences, see the attached output from dpkg-gensymbols. My general recommendation is to avoid running graphical applications as root. The kde applications require a working XDG environment which is lost using the default env_reset sudo setting, at the same time in needs a dbus connection for the running user, so you'll need at least: sudo -E dbus-launch --exit-with-session dolphin But this will use the configuration files for the user to run the dolphin as root, which is probably what you want, as you might end up creating configuration files with the wrong owner in your home directory. The tool kdesu takes care of creating a valid environment for the subprocesses, while using the configuration files of the target user, although it's installed as a rather inconvenient location ( /usr/lib/*/libexec/kf5/kdesu ). And you would need run: kwriteconfig5 --file kdesurc --group super-user-command --key super-user-command sudo To use sudo, as the default in Debian is to use su. We might want to reconsider the installation path of kdesu, and if possible rename it to kdesu5. There is also a bug in kdesud (http://bugs.debian.org/807399), that checks for the file being setgid for the nogroup group (which seems to be a non sense test and upstream answer about it was not reassuring at all for process that is supposed to cache the passwords given to it). It's been unmaintained for nearly a decade, please als see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=812630 Your package uses jasper, so please either remove the JPEG2000 functionality or move to a supported implementation (e.g. openjpeg or ffmpeg). A removal tracker has been setup by the release team at https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/jasper-rm.html This bug will be bumped to release-critical status in a few weeks. Cheers, Moritz --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: kde4libs Source-Version: 4:4.14.20-2 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of kde4libs, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive.
