Dear DAM

With this writing I want to thank Norbert Preining for his efforts and
results of making KDE Plasma and applications available in Debian.
Several years ago releases of KDE Plasma, applications, etc in Debian
were significantly delayed with respect to upstream releases. Norbert
managed to decreases this delay by a magnitude, even such that KDE
Plasma for Debian was made available before the release of KDE Neon!
Next to this, the quality of his packages were at highest levels. In the
occurance of bugs a mail to Norbert was sufficient and almost by return
e-mail solved. Nobert served my and many others very well, his
communication was clear and swift.

Unfortunately Norbert communicated that he has been demoted and as a
result felt that he should leave Debian and its community.

Looking at the results achieved and his track record, seen from my
perspective, I would appreciate very much, if Nobert´s work could be
continued for Debian. With this I kindly ask you to do your utmost best
to make this happen!

Thank you very much,

The Debian KDE team is a (small) handful of people maintaining both the Qt
stack and the ~500 frameworks/plasma/apps packages on their free time.

Lately Norbert was doing most of the later.

More contributors are really welcome ! If you've always wanted to become a
Debian contributor and are interested in the KDE stack, now is a perfect time.

Join us on IRC, the handful is a friendly bunch of people.

Best,

Full ACK.

Let's always keep discussions civil and in good faith...

I respect Norbert for the work he did on Plasma/KF/Application packages.

I do not think it is fair to speak of him (or anyone else) as clown.

From what I have perceived he contributed a lot to make timely releases
of packages happen.

I don't know what is going on here… what this demotion thing about, so I
do not comment directly on it.

I never had any issues with Norbert.

Generally speaking more and more I have the impression that in Debian
political arguments became more important than actually getting work
done in the recent years. I bet that is part of the reason why I
switched to Devuan for all my private systems.

Ciao,

After about 20 years in Debian, blah blah blah

KDE/Plasma, frameworks, Gears, and related packages:

All these packages are group maintained, so there is not much to
worry about.
Furthermore, a few new faces have joined the team and
are actively working on the packages, although mostly on Qt6. I guess
that with me not taking action, frameworks, gears, and plasma
will fall back over time

Bug#1004104: [qt5-gtk-platformtheme] HiDPI support

2022-01-20 Thread Lyndon Brown
Package: qt5-gtk-platformtheme
Version: version 5.15.2+dfsg-14

I just installed this to see whether or not it would help enable an in-
development Qt app adapt to the Gnome system theme. (Please consider
packaging qgnomeplatform from [1]).

I noticed that there seems to be an issue with HiDPI with this package,
with various GUI text components being too large in that app with this
package installed.

Disabling/enabling touch pad on keyboard

2022-01-20 Thread Erwan David

Hi,

I use debian testing. Sometime, by walking on the keyboard my cat
disables the touchpad of my Lenovo T590. I used to be able to get it
back by disabling and reenabling it in the system settings (or with the
systrau "touchpad" icon), but it does not do anything anymore .

Do someone have a solution to reenabe it without logging out ?

Thanks

Dolphin stopped displaying hidden folders in the Folders pane

2022-01-20 Thread Gary Dale

I'm running Debian/Bookworm on an AMD64 machine.

For a few weeks now, Dolphin hasn't been showing hidden folders in the
Folders pane. I've set the view to show hidden files and have been
seeing hidden folders in the Folders pane since Dolphin was first
introduced.

I have to assume that this change was done accidentally since I can't
think of a reason why it would be made deliberately without (apparently)
a way to allow the old behaviour.

Does anyone know a way I can fix the issue so that I can see hidden
folders in the Folders pane?
