KMail 3.2.3-1 instability
I wonder if anyone has noticed that KMail 3.2.3-1 version recently uploaded is less stable than the 3.2.2-2 version. In particular, I sometimes do a V (View Source) command to view the full source of a message to see its full headers. This never caused a problem before, but with the 3.2.3-1 KMail version, it crashes quite frequently with the V command. My solution for now is to revert to the 3.2.2-2 package off of snapshot.debian.net and downgrade to sarge from unstable. Since I've reverted, KMail is stable as before. If it matters, I'm running on a Sun Ultrasparc (Blade 100) machine with the official Debian 2.4.26 Linux kernel. -- Roy Bixler [EMAIL PROTECTED] The University of Chicago Press

I must be doing something very wrong. -.- Thanks. I have the same situation. I downloaded each of the CUPS packages manually and installed them with a --force-depends flag. CUPS works now, but apt still wants to remove KDE every time I try an update. I don't think either of us are doing anything wrong, but the problem would seem to be a packaging error in CUPS. Probably one of the packages is missing an apropos Provides line. For now, I will see if there is a CUPS package update which fixes this problem. -- Roy Bixler [EMAIL PROTECTED] The University of Chicago Press
font selection in KDE
I have what seems like a simple question and I hope that it is. When I'm in a KDE app. like KWord or KMail and I change the font, I notice that the default font, which apparently is Helvetica, is not in the font selection menu. It also appears that, once a font is selected in the menu, then one of the choices must be selected (i.e. there is no none of the above option.) This makes it hard to change back to the default font. In KWord, I can click on Default Format and get the default font back. KMail has no such choice that I can find. Have I missed something or would I have to do something drastic to get the default font back in KMail? thx, -- Roy Bixler [EMAIL PROTECTED] The University of Chicago Press
Re: Konqueror 3.1.2 problem with JavaScript

Can you tell me a site you use that uses JavaScript so I can tell if mine works with that site as well? I mean Yahoo Mail works for me with Konqueror 3.1.2. I don't know if 'allmusic.com' works and, as before, the 'raifeisen.ch' does not work. Further testing on the Swiss site shows that it doesn't complain if I use Mozilla 1.3.1. I generally have no problem with Javascript and Konqueror -- to the point where I'm surprised when I run into a site that doesn't work. On my Intel-based system at home, I can even use sites that play video with Javascript and the Realplayer plug-in. The wierd thing for me is that this all worked with Konq 3.1.1. Is there something else I could've changed to affect this? Uh-oh - now that you mention it, I find my Javascript isn't working anymore either. I looked in .xsession-errors and found out that the Javascript library is having trouble: kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: library=kjs_html: file=/usr/lib/kde3/kjs_html.la: libpcreposix.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory A recent system update I made must have screwed it up. I made a temporary fix by symbolically linking libpcre.so.3 to libpcreposix.so.3. Now Javascript works again and I can now even get the initial login screen on https://tb2.raiffeisendirect.ch/;. I know that Konqueror supports Javascript and I do have it enabled. Re: Konqueror and NY Times sluggish KDE 3.0 to 3.1 Beta 2
On Wed, Oct 30, 2002 at 08:27:46AM -0800, Michael Hoodes wrote: Subject: Konqueror and NY Times sluggish KDE 3.0 to 3.1 Beta 2 I have been using Konqueror for browsing the NY Times for as long as it's been possible from early versions of KDE (1.x?, 2.x) and recently (since 3.0 and now 3.1 Beta 2). I have noticed sluggish behavior that occurs consistently with the 3.n versions of KDE. It pauses (for more than 20 seconds to 30-50 seconds) with an image indicator (bottom left) indicating n/n+1 images and the percentage indicator (bottom right) showing from 96-99%. Normal acceptable new page display for me is 2-4 seconds. This slow response occurs during the AM peak (6 AM Pacific) which pretty much includes the whole United States wake-up/start of business peak. This occurs on a broadband connection on either Woody or Sid with a 2.4.17 kernel. I also assume there is an upstream cache (attbi). I assume that Konqueror pauses when a page is not in attbi cache. Logically the time that this happens (6 AM - 9 AM) explains the delay. BUT - When I go to mozilla or Opera at the same time using the same page of origin, response on new pages is 2-4 seconds. Konqueror at the same time stays sluggish. I don't know if this is a Debian problem (that's what I use) or general KDE. Is this a known bug? I would really dislike going to Mozilla or Opera for my AM NY Times browsing but will do so if Konqueror remains sluggish. I've noticed the same thing with The Register at http://theregister.co.uk; or http://theregus.com;. Both of these load much quicker with either Mozilla 1.x or Konqueror 2.2.2. -- Roy Bixler [EMAIL PROTECTED] The University of Chicago Press
KDE 3.0.1 packages
I've been trying to follow the directions given at http://calc.cx/kde.txt; for installing the KDE 3.01 .deb files, but I have not been able to connect to the 'http://kde3.geniussystems.net/debian' URL for the past several days. I have tried multiple times from multiple locations and the connection always times out. Am I using the correct URL? If so, does anyone have a mirror set up?
