I just did an reply to the commit mail..

Yeah, guessed such, maybe alioth/svn/whatever should be fixed to be more smart
about this.

Because i am trying to build kernels that work for ppc64 boxes, as nobody is
helping me out on this, i do what i can. Notice that this is stuff worked on
by Cajus, who apparently managed to get some IBM boxes donated to the
augsbourg university on behalf of the debian project, Altough i guess nobody
else knew about it, and i just recently found out about that.

Actually i should have added it to a a branch or something though.

That said, it is just a driver, if you don't enable it, you will never see
  it :)
And i am perfectly happy to drop it as not needed once i have a successfull
report on logical partitioned working, which is currently failing, as
  reported
by David Gaya, and his gentoo kernel worked. See the ppc64 mailing lists for
  that.

+ * Added patch for IBM eServer i/pSeries Virtual SCSI Target Driver
from
+Dave Boutcher [EMAIL PROTECTED], needed for ppc64 boxes with
virtual
+partitions, Thanks to Cajus Pollmeier for providing it.
+(Sven Luther)

And no, it's totally not needed for these systems to work.

Ok, fine, what should be used then instead ? Can you provide your
enlightnement on what is needed here, and maybe comment on the above
  mentioned
failure ? The link seems to be :

  http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/debian-ppc64-devel/2005-June/000123.html

that mail is to 90% a big base64 blob, people are too stupid to
configure their mailers these days :P

Hehe, indeed. Well, i forwarded you the more usefull mail, altough i don't
remember where the gentoo .config file is, i can investigate this lter if
needed, unless you have an insight.

BTW, we should have access to logical partitions at the augsbour uni now, so
this could be tested there, if you feel like this, i will not be able to in
the next 2 weeks.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

which was the latest 2.6 kernel that recognized the qla1280 card?

we would need to check latest 2.6.12-rcX before bugging upstream,
i'll kick off a build.

Hi,

I don't know if it is a bug, but after upgrading my system with apt-get upgrade
I got a new kernel from security.debian.org. After applying the upgrade and
rebooting the system, the base load of my system increased. The base load is
monitored by some scripts which uses rrdtool.

I attached the images created by rrdtool for memory and cpu load. On the memory
image you can see the reboot I did (on Tue). On the cpu image you can see
the load increased after the upgrade/reboot.

I did not make any other changes to the system. The system is not my box at
home but a server with a web content management system on it.

I know, that this is not a normal bug and that it is difficult or may
impossible to trace but may other people made the same experience?

Kind regards, and thanks a lot for your work on the Debian system

Andreas

As the code and explanation says it's needed for vio targets, aka if you
want to run multiple OS instances on a single system, and you absolutely
want to run vio on some of the instances and run the server under debian
linux (by default it runs AIX or OS/400), which lacks the infrastructure
for this server anyway.

Hi Christoph, *.
I'm not really sure if i did understand that correctly. Do you think
that the virtual i/o server for pSeries (i.e. IBM OpenPower) MUST run
under AIX? That's not true.

We have the virtual i/o server and the LPARs (virtual partitions) on
OpenPower 720 both running under Debian. No need for any other (curious)
operating system/kernel!

And if the patch is neccessary for the virtual i/o server (driver:
ibmvscsis), then the patch is neccessary for us.

Harald

Bug#313506: Solved

2005-06-14 Thread Daniel Benden

Solved: it is because of megaraid rename.

mkinitrd is just including module megaraid, not megaraid_mm nor
megaraid_mbox

So add both modules to /etc/mkinitrd/modules and it is running again
after mkinitrd rerun.

Bug#313637: kernel-image-2.6-686: Why no 2.6.11?

2005-06-14 Thread Jason Dorje Short
Package: kernel-image-2.6-686
Version: 101
Severity: normal

Is there a reason why this package doesn't depend on kernel-image-2.6.11-1-686?
I couldn't find anything too serious in the bug list for that package, nor an
entry for the reason in the bug list for this package.

Still no 2.6 kernel that works completely on my alpha, alas.

which was the latest 2.6 kernel that recognized the qla1280 card?

The last one where I used the qlogicisp driver instead...
