---BeginMessage---
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.85h
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Running kernel 2.6.16 on stable, root/boot on raid 1 on scsi devices,
rest of system is lvm on raid 1 on same scsi devices.

Upgrading from initrd-tools to initramfs-tools results in the error message:

runaway modprobe loop

on boot, and then hangs (hence critical). The looping messages are modprobe for:

net-pf-1
char-major-5-1

I used modules=list and put the same list of modules in the
initramfs config file as are in my initrd config file.

When I unpack the cpio archive I see that initramfs added the module
unix to the list, which of course is alised to net-pf-1. Also,
I have no idea what char-major-5-1 is.

Re: VCD not accessible

2007-09-05 Thread Paweł Krzywicki

Hi I am using toshiba A110-275 laptop as well with Debian Etch 4.0 and to be
honest with you I don't have any problems with him. Maybe something is wrong
with your CD/DVD drive. I have installed my Debian from netinstall cd. and is
working normally since a few months. Only problem which I have is the
wireless network card... but I don't need it anyway.
...
There is an input/output error, so probably there is something wrong with
your reader

Bug#435576: linux-image-2.6.22.1: no sound in tvtime, pinnacle tv card

2007-09-05 Thread yellow protoss
Hi max,

I found a bit further help on that topic. It looks to be frequent with these
pinnacle linux kernels.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=260926

Greetings to you

  Dear Maximilian,

Thank you for your help. In the meantime, I got this following reply
 below.
Also the sound in tvtime works with windows, but under our linux
 kernels, no
sound is available. I can provide you additionally the lspci -n.

  Have a good day

linux-2.6.23-rc2 is available, please fetch it, see apt lines:

Severity: important

mkinitramfs (called by update-initramfs, called in postinst) does not work
properly if the config files to be included in the initramfs are symlinks:

strace shows that cpio is already called with --dereference. Since I didn't
find anything about udev in /usr/sbin/mkinitramfs, I don't know how to
proceed further to fix this bug.
