Bug#451962: Debian:2.6

2007-11-25 Thread Rod Lovett

Debian:2.6
No further ahead with this bug, and its a wonder any bug reports arrive
with the arcane package designation.

No printing with Samsung ML-2010 with kernel 2.6.22.2-486 in Lenny
either. Only 2.6.18-4-486 #1 Mon Mar 26 16:39:10 UTC 2007 i686 works ,
all later Debian Lenny kernels do not.
Kubuntu 2.6.22 later Gutsy kernels work fine too, fixed in ubuntu but
not debian.
What is wrong with the later Debian kernels and this fine printer?
Best

package: linux-2.6

Lenny Printing bug with Samsung ML-2010 with Kernel 2.6.21-2-486 #1 Wed
Jul 11 03:17:09 UTC 2007 i686 and kernel 2.6.22.2 all printing jobs
stay in Kjobviewer
Printing works with older kernel 2.6.18-4-486 #, though no cardreader
usb mounting on usb plugin Mon Mar 26 16:39:10 UTC

2007 i686

The same printer works fine in Debian etch, also works fine in Sidux Gaia.
Same behavior in Kubuntu gutsy tribe5, which must have used snapshots of
Lenny packages, hence same errors. Now OK in Gutsy with 2.6.22 kernel.

Using a specific ppd does not help either.

Oh an old HP deskjet 895Cxi prints OK, with newer Lenny kernels, so
this seems a problem is in later Debian kernels, and Samsung ML2010
Laser specific

whatever it is.

El Zorro

Bug#451805: linux-image-2.6.22-3-r4k-ip22 dies early on boot / Starting ELF64 kernel

2007-11-25 Thread Martin Michlmayr
* Thomas Bogendoerfer [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-11-25 02:55]:
Okay - i comes past the typical trip points but later when going
to userspace throws errors a lot ...
hmm, I trusted Ralf, that the MAP_BASE change is needed for getting
modules to work, but it looks like it breaks vmalloc. And it looks
like modules should even work, if MAP_BASE is 0xc000.
Does reverting that patch help ?

I reverted the patch, no longer get the vmalloc errors, and module loading
seems to work:

indy-r4k:~# modprobe xfs
SGI XFS with ACLs, security attributes, realtime, large block/inode numbers, no
debug enabled
SGI XFS Quota Management subsystem

Re: System crash caused by the powernow-k8 kernel module

2007-11-25 Thread Daniel van Eeden
Teodor,

You could set your machine up for serial console and connect another
machine to capture the messages it generates during the crash.

Sometimes the most useful messages are not logged to syslog but only to
the console.

modinfo powernow-k8 on my machine does not show any parms for debugging.
Some modules can be loaded with a debug option enabled.

Cheers,

Daniel

 Hi,

I'm having Debian GNU/Linux installed on my workstation with AMD
 Athlon(tm) 64 X2 4800+ (actually 2.5GHz). From the very beginning after
the install I was getting multiple system freezes. This happens with
both linux images from unstable (2.6.22-3-amd64) and testing
 (2.6.22-2-amd64).

Recently I've found that is caused by the powernow-k8 kernel module. I
can reproduce the problem easily by activating the 'Cool n Quiet'
option in the BIOS and just reboot the system. The freeze usually
happens after I'm logged in the X session probably when the load is
 growing.

As a temporary workaround I've blacklisted the powernow-k8 module and
 no more system freezes.

I would like to fill a bug report but I'm afraid I don't have enough
useful information to give. Can you tell me how can I debug a kernel
 panic/crash?

 Thanks for your help.

Bug#452752: Patch to enable dell 1420 touchpad scrolling is not included

I followed the instructions in this url:

 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3132270#post3132270

And now the touchpad scroll works.

It will be nice to include this patch in the Debian linux images.

the patch is included upstream in 2.6.24-rc3,
we will make soon snapshot builds of it available.
i'll ping you once they are available.

2.6.22 is closed, it is also not an upstream stable update candidate
so it will get picked up on 2.6.24 in sid.

A few minutes ago I've upgraded the BIOS to the latest version
available 1601beta and the system is freezing immediately after I start
the firefox browser, probably caused by a growing load on the CPUs.

Unfortunately I don't have a serial cable around but I'll try to buy
one. Can you direct me to a good howto on setting a serial console? I'll
search on Internet but you might know a short one.

Paul and Mark, do you have any suggestions for fixing this?

Thanks

Bug#452837: mounting unionfs via nfs fails

Martin Stechert wrote:

I have read somewhere that unionfs exports must specify fsid=42 (or other
arbitrary number) in /etc/exports on the server. Does this help for you? If so,
please close this bug or retitle it to something that suggests that the bug is
in the documentation.
