Please describe, why you, as no maintainer, see this as fixed?

Even on my notebook, a X60s, suspend broke somewhere between .26-7 and
.26-10.

Bug#504164: [linux-image-2.6.26-1-686] System crashes with linux-image-2.6.26-1-686 when X starts

2008-11-01 Thread Mark Brandis
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686
Version: 2.6.26-8
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

When using linux-image-2.6.26-1-686 or a customized linux-image-2.6.26 the
system crashes when X (kdm) starts.

I can see the X cursor and a quarter of the kdm screen when the system crashes
and Caps Lock and Scroll Lock start blinking. This happens while using the
radeonhd driver.

If I use the vesa driver, the X cursor changes to the arrow cursor and then
the system crashes with blinking Caps and Scroll.

Bug#503870: Acknowledgement (linux-image-2.6.26-1-686: Suspend to RAM fails on HP nc8230)

2008-11-01 Thread Matthias-Christian Ott
Please describe, why you, as no maintainer, see this as
 fixed?

Because it works on my HP nc8230 (see title of the bug report) and was
additionally forwarded to Linux kernel bug tracker (the issue is not fully
resolved, but I'm talking to the maintainer about this).

Even on my notebook, a X60s, suspend broke somewhere
 between .26-7 and
 .26-10.

I can't confirm this with 2.6.26-1, so I suggest to open an other bug report,
since this seems to be a different bug (I think in my case it turned out to be
related to the graphics card and BIOS, in your case it might be a kernel bug or
so).

Regards,
Matthias-Christian

My Thinkpad T61 refuses to wake up from suspend randomly. It only shows blank
screen (usually backlighted) and LED's signalize it's not suspended anymore.

Please try to find out if it exists in -8 or not. I expect that this is
similar to #504167, which is confirmed to be new in -9.

I dont suspect Nvidia drivers, because they were not updated...

This is nonsense. Please check it without.

---BeginMessage---
Package: general
Severity: grave

Since late last week, my system completely hangs - it stops accepting
any input from keyboard or mouse - after 3 to 5 minutes after booting.
This happens both in a text console and when running X.

Of course I suspected a hardware problem first, but the manufacturers
test program (a version of PC doctor for IBM Thinkpads) gives no
errors at all, and does not result in hanging even after more than an
hour. Similarly, I can boot from a Knoppix CD and run it happily for
hours.

Therefore, it seems to me that it is a problem with the Debian
installation, a quite up-to-date testing. There were no log messages at
all in syslog, messages, or kern.log which point to a cause. I tried
with the current lenny kernel (2.6.26, I think) and the previous one
(2.6.25), and there was no difference - so it is probably not the
kernel.

I have no idea how I can access the LVM volumes on the harddrive,
therefore I have a hard time presenting details from logs. I will try to
copy interesting things (like dpkg.log) to /boot which is not on LVM.

Don't delay lenny's release because of this - but in case this is
actually a grave bug, I think I'd rather report it now than complain
later...

Regards, Frank

Hi,

patching the kernel with an alpha code is bad, so I would like to package

The only kernel dependency I cannot get around is an additionally exported

 I've attached the patch.

I think it would be nice to have those firmware in Lenny. Even though
it's very late in the release cycle, I assume the risk is add them is
rather low since:
1. The firmware haven't changed for ages.
2. The packages will be in non-free (i.e not supported by Debian).

Is there anything I could do to help?
I assume I should open 2 bugs for the patches, right ?
