Bug#498271: Fixed in 2.6.27.5

2008-11-08 Thread Damien Raude-Morvan
Hi,

This seems to be fixed (at least for me - with an MCP51 chipset) in 2.6.27.5
vanilla kernel.

This commit [1], by Tejun Heo, doesn't try hardreseting link on generic
devices (MCP51 and MCP55 are generic ones).

There is nothing in the original report which connects it to the
linux-2.6 package. Since 2.6.26 it uses the new style RTC support which
handles this much better. Closing.

provide any information necessary to track this down.

Comments/Problems:

I decided to try installing Debian on a pristine QNAP TS-109 Pro II
device, after getting a note from Martin Michlmayr that the images would
be available. I had had the device for a few weeks waiting for Debian,
since the vendor itself doesn't currently offer a possibility to install
their own firmware without having a Windows or Mac OS license.

I connected with telnet to the device, inserted an USB stick, backuped
mtd1 and mtd2 partitions and then run flash-debian from the stick. After
rebooting I could ssh to the debian installer succesfully, and completed
the installation without problems.

Only possible problem during installation I hit was that I wasn't able
to choose Finnish as installation language. Maybe a feature of this
installation method, not a bug? At one point there was possibility to
choose language, I think - it asked for the continent and country but
then continued when I selected Finland without giving a choice of
language. After the installation, I ran dpkg-reconfigure locales
manually.

After installation I did encounter problems with using external disks:
- System hang whenever either eSATA disk or USB disk was connected or
disconnected
- Booting with either already connected was succesful and the disk was
accessable
- However, some directories were not accessible. All unaccessible
directories seemed to (at a casual look) have special characters in
their names, but many similar named directories worked without problems.
For example (from my FLACd CD collection):
d? ? ??? ? Björk - Telegram
d? ? ??? ? Ø - Metri
etc.

I checked that the disk still works as it should be when connected to my
desktop machine either directly or using the same eSATA/USB 3.5 HDD
case I used for connecting to QNAP.

I heard that the sata_mv is experimental in 2.6.25 and had major
improvements in 2.6.26, which would explain eg. the eSATA problem, but
what about having the same problem when connecting the external disk via
USB? Anyway, I guess I have to wait for 2.6.26 kernel to check if these
are fixed.

Other than these problems, everything has seemingly worked well for now.

Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-9
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I'm trying to run Xen in Lenny with the new 2.6.26-kernel as Dom0.

It seems to be some problems on the amd64 architecture.
After approx 10-20 hours of uptime, the Dom0 crash (even if there is no
DomU running) with the following error:

Maybe you have a wlan0_rename device or similar? IIRC there were some
changes in 2.6.24 that cause breakage with the
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules that etch's udev creates¹.
Some seven months ago I had this problem myself, also on a laptop with
the b43 driver, the solution was to move said file out of the way and
reboot. See also this Ubuntu bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/213903 and its
duplicates.

¹ In etch the file is /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules, it is
  automatically renamed on udev upgrades.

Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-7
Severity: normal

Hi folks,

Yesterday I converted one of our mail filtering machines (XEN domU) to Lenny and
restarted it with the new 2.6.26-1-xen-amd64 kernel from unstable. This
afternoon the system died, producing some famous last words at the console and
in /var/log/syslog [1].

The dom0 system is based on Etch, running
xen-linux-system-2.6.18-xen-3.1-2-amd64
version 2.6.18.dfsg.1-22etch2+xen.1 with xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-amd64 and
xen-utils-3.2-1 3.2.1-2 from unstable, which I backported to Etch [2].

Greetings,
Hans van Kranenburg

Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-8
Severity: important

I can consistently make the kernel oops with the following situation:

If I have a domain (either domU or dom0) that is limited on memory and I start
a program that needs
more memory than available as physical memory, this program will use more than
99% of CPU. Swap space
is available more than enogh, but will not be used extensively. When I
interrupt the program with Ctrl-C,
I get the oops.
Example: Domain with 128M of memory and 2G of swap. Starting e2fsck on a
filesystem with 300G will
trigger the effect. Swap space is used about 350k. Extending the memory of the
domain to 256M will

Bug#463860: Doesn't work in 2.6.25 either

Sorry, it does not work in 2.6.25 either. And maybe it is worse now: IIRC,
not even the interface ath0 did work (before, ath0 worked but no wifis were
 detected).

At boot time I could see something in red about ath0, but the boot verbose
progress was fast so I was not able to read it.

I am afraid I am not available to debug, because I built the madwifi module,
it works, and I do not have the time to play around. When upgrading to
2.6.26 in the future, I will let you know if it works :-)

Does it work for you with the 2.6.26 kernel from Lenny?

Cheers,
Moritz

Bug#479381: linux-image-2.6.25-1-686: Booting pauses for about 30 seconds on Acer Aspire 5710Z

   bug number.

Sebastian, does the problem still persist with the Lenny kernel?
If so, did you file the kernel.org bug report as suggested by Maks?

Yes, I did file the bug on kernel.org:
  http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10728

Unfortunately I cannot test this issue anymore since I've changed my
laptop since then and in my current laptop there are no such problems.
 [...]

I've seen this problem too, but never got round to reporting it as a
bug. I'm not sure whether it's the kernel or udev (or something else)
at fault. It's totally reproducible on this particular machine so I can
provide any information necessary to track this down.

The upstream bug report says udev (or its configuration) is at fault.
After some further investigation, I found the same is true in my case,
but it seems unconnected.

Ben.

2008-11-08 Thread David
No. Read the rest of the bug history :-) My last email was on 10 August,
when the 2.6.26 kernel was already in sid, IIRC. On that email, I say *from
* version 2.6.25.

Thank you.

Does it work for you with the 2.6.26 kernel from Lenny?

 Cheers,
 Moritz

Bug#474456: ethernet broken on a epox 8hda series motherboard from 2.6.23 onwards

2008-11-08 Thread peter green

Peter, is this bug still reproducible with 2.6.26 from Lenny?

yes

and with the 2.6.27 version from that archive someone told me to try
earlier in the bug report.

OK, since there was no opposition and there is still no explaination on
why this bug was donwgraded in the first place I'm upgrading it back to the
initial severity.

What's the best way forward on this issue? I'm a bit hesitant on just preparing
an NMU for the kernel, for obvious reasons. It would much prefer it, if a member
of the kernel team would take care of appling the patch.

Are the changes currently in SVN targeted at lenny or not? If it helps I could
prepare
an NMU patch complete with changelog entry and everything.

There is only a small fraction of machines affected, so this is not RC.

I fail to find anything near this patch in upstream (Linus' tree), which
would be the first target. So please provide commit IDs along with
patches. If you want to force us to apply patches which does not follow
our guidelines, you have to ask CTTE.
