Bug#347186: [linux-2.6] bterm and matroxfb

2009-05-10 Thread Gabriele Gorla
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.26

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Sorry, I should have read the entire latest comments more carefully.

I am not familiar at all with bterm but it does not seem to work.

I can load matrofb_base and fbcon without problems. I can swap vcs and change
resolution with fbset.
if I try to run bterm the vc where I launched it has frozen display, but still
responds to commands.
Other vcs still work just fine, but the one where bterm is running always has
the image of the last
regular vc selected.
exiting bterm restores the vc to normal behavior.

Bug#347186: [linux-2.6] more on bterm

2009-05-10 Thread Gabriele Gorla
--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I just swapped the millennium II with a ATI RAGE XL (atyfb module).
bterm still (mis-)behaves exactly the same as with matroxfb.

I start doubting the bterm problem is an issue with the matroxfb driver.

As a side note, loading atyfb does not corrupt the screen even if the fbcon
module is not loaded.
The console stays in text mode until the fbcon module is loaded (with matroxfb
the console goes
in graphics mode immediately producing a garbled display until fbcon is loaded
as well)

Yes; policy currently specifies SUSv3.

these sections. If this is the case, please only reply to this email if
the new section is inappropriate, otherwise please update your package
at the next upload.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package

This is the difference between the 32 and 64bit build.

Please apply the attached patch, it fixes FTBFS on sparc.

It fails to boot at the moment, I'm looking further into it.

Bug#528056: [firmware-linux] Matrox g200-warp firmware hangs machine on any DRI try

2009-05-10 Thread David Baron
Package: firmware-linux
Version: 0.16
Severity: grave

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
If firmware-linux is not installed, card reports error loading firmware,
then is not DRI enabled but no other problems.
If firmware is installed, firmware is requested and successfully loaded. DRI
is reported as enabled. Any attempts to use it, i.e. game or googleearth, will
hang the system. Must reset.

Note that this bug was previously reported and for a non-patched kernel.
However, because of reportbug problems, it does not show up so am
resubmitting. Was listed as Bug#522956 for firmware-matrox.

Bug#528079: linux-image-2.6.29-2-amd64: After rebooting using the 2.6.29-2 kernel is my onboard lan-card disabled.

I have to pull out the power plug to get it usable again.
My motherboard is a M2N-SLI Deluxe and the controller is a nvidia nforce 570
sli mcp built in gigabit mac with external Marvell PHY according to the manual.
At first I tried to use the other of the two onboard network controllers, but
also that one got disabled after rebooting.

Bug#528094: smc911x - smc91x

2009-05-10 Thread Robert Millan
Package: initramfs-tools

The smc911x in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hook-functions looks like a typo.

I think it should be smc91x:

(or at least smc91x should be present in the list)

Bug#521944: Some userspace tool is probably to blame

2009-05-10 Thread Dmitry Borodaenko
I had the same problem with the kernel from unstable (2.6.29-1-686
2.6.29-3), but it went away after a couple of dist-upgrades, non of
which touched the kernel package, which means that it's some userspace
tool that caused this problem.

Now that I can't replicate this bug I can't pinpoint it to an individual
package. If anyone still has this bug on their system, a way to trace it
down would be to upgrade to most recent unstable, installing new
packages one by one. I'm not sure if you would also need to reboot after
each package.
