That appears to work, at least I have v6 addresses now.

Unlike before, you now have communication.

Incomplete upload found in Debian upload queue

2010-07-12 Thread Archive Administrator
Probably you are the uploader of the following file(s) in
the Debian upload queue directory:
  linux-2.6_2.6.35~rc5-1~experimental.1.dsc
This looks like an upload, but a .changes file is missing, so the job
cannot be processed.

If no .changes file arrives within 23:29:16, the files will be deleted.

If you didn't upload those files, please just ignore this message.

2010-07-12 Thread John Vodden
Package: linux-image-2.6-686
Version: 2.6.32+27
Severity: normal

The rt3090sta module loads but does not function if the file
/etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/RT2860STA.dat is not present, thus breaking wifi
for devices using this module. This file corresponds to the wrong kernel
module name and is not distributed in any debian package. Note that the driver
functions correctly if the file is present but empty.

The file is reported as being optional for RT2860 but appears manditory for
rt3090.

Comparing rt2860/rt_profile.c and rt3090/rt_profile.c shows some
differences in the implementation of RTMPReadParametersHook which is the
function which reads the file.

rt2860 has a retval value which does not appear to be used. The
function only returns failure if it cannot allocate a buffer to read the
ini file and its parameters. If it doesn't open the file the meat of the
function is skipped and the function returns NDIS_STATUS_SUCCESS anyway.

rt3090 initializes retval to NDIS_STATUS_FAILURE. This is unchanged if
there is an error opening the file and is returned at the end of the
function. This propogates through to abort the module.

Output from dmesg when the file is not present:

Yes, it is that simple.

I've submitted that already (as the pending tag I added to the
bugreport should tell), see

http://git.debian.org/?p=kernel/initramfs-tools.git;a=commit;h=7af6ef47abf2d617fb15ca90966c8020067d4990

Will be fixed by upload of initramfs-tools >= 0.97.3.

I applied the 3 patches and tested the kernel. Test results look good. Have
not been able to reproduce the bug.

Install gcc-multlib if you want to build the lguest support.

No bug here as this is not built by the kernel source itself but by k-p.

I am not one of the maintainers for initramfs-tools, just a user who happened
to notice this bug report. But as a temporary circumvention, you may be able
to work around this problem by listing the extra modules you need in
/etc/initramfs-tools/modules. I was able to circumvent a similar problem by
doing this. (See bug report 588452.)

Ah, sorry, I thought the fix was clear from the bug report:

Peter Palfrader has bisected it down to commit 1345126c
"x86, paravirt: Add a global synchronization point for pvclock"
which sounds very reasonable, IMHO. See
http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1007.0/02385.html

To be absolutely sure this is correct, I just built a kernel based on
your 2.6.32-17 with commit 1345126c reverted, and that does indeed boot
under KVM. The revert patch is attached. Please try it.

I do hope this goes into next 2.6.32-stable as well, although the
discussion following Peter Palfrader's bisect seems a bit discouraging.
"that patch shouldn't affect anything outside..." Right. Well, it
does. So please revert it in stable.

Thanks,
Bjørn

I haven't seen a fix for it yet.

Yes, it's supported. Indeed we often use it to test new kernel builds.

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-15
Severity: normal

A kernel oops was generated while restarting cups as part of today's
aptitude upgrade. The oops is reproducible and occurs at each boot,
apparently while loading parport_pc as requested by /etc/init.d/cups.
My printer is a USB printer and has been off the whole time.

2.6.33-2-orion5x from experimental exhibits the same oops (hence the
appearance of experimental in a couple of package versions below).

I've attached an excerpt from dpkg.log to show which packages were
updated before the oops started happening. I'm not familiar with
reporting kernel bugs so please let me know if I can provide additional
information.

Hi,

Could you please consider changing CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_TI from not set to =m.

I've built and tested this on 2.6.32-15 on AMD64 and am about to file a
seperate bug on firmware-nonfree to request the inclusion of the appropriate
firmware files from
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dwmw2/linux-firmware.git

Thanks,

Mark

Package: linux-source-2.6.32
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hallo,

This patch from git.kernel.org fixes setting of mac address of asix usb-net
adapters,
MAC address setting is needed by ifenslave (mode active/backup).
Without this patch bonding seems to work with my ax88178 based,
but when making this device the active no packets are transmitted.
Switching back to the primary active device (e1000) works - no errors, oops,
panic.

When applying this patch to the current squeeze kernel sources (2.6.32-15),
compiling and installing it, the ax88178 based adapter works as expected in
bonding mode active/backup.
This works also on a lenny system with the backported squeeze kernel.

It would be nice if this patch could be included in squeeze.

P.S. Possibly this is related to bug 444043.

Thanks

Holger Fischer

I find a similar oops very reliably whenever there is moderate network
traffic, like updating squeeze. This happens on 2.6.32-3-686,
2.6.32-5-686, and 2.6.33-2-686 from experimental, but not at all on the
earlier squeeze kernel 2.6.30-2-686. Soon after this the system locks up
completely.

This makes the b43 driver in the current kernels more or less unusable
for me.

I run a self-compiled kernel and have therefore no Debian kernel images
installed.

While upgrading linux-libc-dev the contents of
/usr/share/doc/linux-libc-dev/NEWS.Debian.gz
was shown, which is kinda pointless.

Subject: linux-base: postinst added wrong UUID to /etc/lilo.conf
Package: linux-base
Version: 2.6.32-15
Severity: normal

During the installation of linux-base it offered to switch my configs to
UUIDs. This worked well in /etc/fstab but didn't so for lilo.conf:

  #boot = /dev/sda3
  boot = "/dev/disk/by-uuid/azgLkk-WOjh-iwxd-eSUK-32a9-qEVm-Q7CIBJ"

which doesn't exist:

  $ ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid/azgLkk-WOjh-iwxd-eSUK-32a9-qEVm-Q7CIBJ
  ls: cannot access /dev/disk/by-uuid/azgLkk-WOjh-iwxd-eSUK-32a9-qEVm-Q7CIBJ:
No such file or directory

And therefore:

  # lilo
  Warning: LBA32 addressing assumed
  Fatal: raid_setup:
stat("/dev/disk/by-uuid/azgLkk-WOjh-iwxd-eSUK-32a9-qEVm-Q7CIBJ")

/dev/sda3 is a PV with a VG (internal) on it that keeps the LVs root,
home, swap. The above UUID is the PVs UUID:

  # pvdisplay
  --- Physical volume ---
  PV Name /dev/sda3
  VG Name internal
PV Size 30,69 GiB / not usable 3,53 MiB
  Allocatable yes (but full)
  PE Size 4,00 MiB
  Total PE 7857
  Free PE 0
  Allocated PE 7857
  PV UUID azgLkk-WOjh-iwxd-eSUK-32a9-qEVm-Q7CIBJ

So it seems the script doesn't handle /boot on LVM correctly.
Cheers,
 -- Guido

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.34-1~experemental.2
Severity: normal

This device should be supported (at least it says that on the cover, and
supplied driver, which does not compile anymore).
It is detected, but then returns: unknown rf chip, can't set channel map
in function:rtl819x_set_channel_map() in dmesg

Seems to be a related problem to the recently fixed #580740
The device gets an interface, but no rf signals seem to be detected
(compared to a wifi card next to it, right next to the AP).

Full dmesg output is:

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.34-1~experimental.2

SCSI_IPR depends only on PCI && SCSI && ATA, but ipr.c now uses writeq()
which is not defined for all architectures. This is a regression from
Linux 2.6.33.

Kconfig says:

Add IPv6 support to IPVS. This is incomplete and might be dangerous.

The implementation certainly is incomplete, but at the same time usable
in real-word situations. I've got no idea why it could be dangerous,
but will try to get some info on that.

Meanwhile, please consider setting this option, or describe why it's out
of question if so.

Thanks,
Feri.

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.26-22lenny1
Severity: important

Hi,

I get no DHCP offers on the r8169 device since the upgrade to 2.6.26-22lenny1.

Reverting to 2.6.26-22 does not fix the problem.

Reverting to 2.6.26-21lenny4 *does* fix the problem.

Please contact me for more info.

Alex

Hi,

CONFIG_KPROBES is required by systemtap. I think that it's the last
missing piece to a working systemtap with Debian kernels.

It's enabled in the default Ubuntu (ok, that doesn't necessarily
mean that it's a good idea) and RHEL kernels, at least.

Thanks

- Lucas

Description : Kernel module for several DVB cards

The Mantis driver is used for a large number of Digital Video Broadcasting
cards. There appear to be two competing forked projects writing these drivers,
one by Manu Abraham (which I think is the original), and one by Igor M.
Liplianin. I currently run the former, while the latter has been recommended to
me recently. Both appear to be in active development. I make no attempt to
recommend one of the other, in fact, it seems very hard to judge which is the
best. I have also been told that it is unlikely that these drivers will go into
the mainline kernels any time soon.

In spite of these difficulties, the driver is important for DVB-support in
Debian, and so I hope someone better qualified than me can take a look and
choose one for packaging.

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-3
Severity: normal

Hi.

Since linux-image-2.6.32-3 (and also at least with -4) (tested with the
-486 version of the image) my ATL1E network of the EEE PC 900A does not
longer work.
The module is automatically loaded, dmesg shows the usual info about the
network card, but when brining the iface up I get:
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
Bind socket to interface: No such device

There is not MAC address problem with udev persistent-net-rules.

Going back to the linux-image-2.6.30-2-486... and everything works
again.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Chris.

I had a hard time to find out if the upstream linux/tools/ tools are shipped
with the Debian kernel packages. Apologies if I missed to find the correct
package.

Otherwise, this is a wishlist bug to request packaging of the kernel tools
shipped
by the upstream project.

Bug#588426: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: fail to boot in a kvm virtual machine

At first, I thought that the severity was appropriate as this bug
doesn't break *all* systems, and the kernel is somewhat special in that
most bugs will affect "the whole system".

But I must admit that I was a bit surprised when 2.6.32-17 was uploaded
without a fix for this problem. It makes me wonder if the severity
shouldn't have been higher after all Just to be clear: This bug
does break all KVM based systems, making them completely unbootable, and
requiring console access to fix. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of
KVM based hosting solutions around where this will be a severe problem.

Is KVM a supported "hardware" platform i Debian? I would expect so. If
it is, then please raise the severity of this bug high enough to reflect
this.

Thanks,
Bjørn

No, that's not we want - ack, we should fix that.

Exiting during buildtime, but trying to execute it on boot time
is what I'd consider as the way to go.

Thanks for catching, maks.

Bug#588509: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: hangs under Xen after Write protecting the kernel read-only data: 4220k

2010-07-12 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors

Would it be ok to raise the severity to serious to prevent migration
to testing? Even if investigating this takes time I'd hate to have a
kernel that does not boot under Xen in testing.

I don't think so, my card worked with every debian kernel so far, it
just randomly goes to sleep without a chance of wakeup. This happens
sometimes after just a few minutes and sometimes after days of constant
suspend/resume.

Kind regards,
Martin

Since I'm following debian testing's updates, I'm currently running
2.6.32-5-amd64 where suspend works fine.

This is server hardware, use a serial console.
