Bug#607495: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: kernel freeze
Hi there. I recently updated my system - here's the update log: Commit Log for Sat Jan 29 15:01:33 2011 Upgraded the following packages: dpkg (1.15.8.8) to 1.15.8.9 dpkg-dev (1.15.8.8) to 1.15.8.9 grub-common (1.98+20100804-13) to 1.98+20100804-14 grub-pc (1.98+20100804-13) to 1.98+20100804-14 ia32-libs (20101129) to 20110117 libc-bin (2.11.2-9) to 2.11.2-10 libc-dev-bin (2.11.2-9) to 2.11.2-10 libc6 (2.11.2-9) to 2.11.2-10 libc6-dbg (2.11.2-9) to 2.11.2-10 libc6-dev (2.11.2-9) to 2.11.2-10 libc6-i386 (2.11.2-9) to 2.11.2-10 libdpkg-perl (1.15.8.8) to 1.15.8.9 locales (2.11.2-9) to 2.11.2-10 I rebooted and ran the ./reproduce-bug.sh v3c-repo test. The machine failed to respond while all available memory was consumed, but after a minute or two the process was killed and the operating system and desktop were paged back in. I would consider this bug as solved, providing there aren't any others out there who continue to experience the problem after these updates. Philip

Bug#611464: nfs-common: Really could you make NFS client and server working in this distro ??
Package: nfs-common Version: 1:1.2.2-4 Severity: important Hello, The decided today for my debian server and clients to be upgraded from stable to testing is a disaster. Testing has so much issues. The worst of the worst is really nfs-common. the NFS client and server is absolutely not working. Please remove the nfs-common from the testing, and please it to SID of debian. I can ping my server but the client /home at boot is not working at all. I mount it with default. I am so disappointed of Debian testing. It is really unstable as hell. I would like to contribute to help you in making this nfs working. Please let me know if you have some logs reaquired. I wish to help you. NFS shall be into SID. Don't the xen-linux-system-2.6-xen-* metapackages take care of this upgrade? Cheers, Julien I wrote this after experimenting it myself on my Xen development server! Unless this changed over the last month it is true, and I wrote bug reports for it. It might be worth trying again and see what happens, and maybe link to the bug entry. xen-linux-system-2.6-xen-amd64 and xen-linux-system-2.6-xen-686 were added to Squeeze when linux-latest-2.6 was uploaded last week, closing bug #402414. So I think the advice now should be to install one of those metapackages rather than the current advice to install specific hypervisor and linux-image packages. This will facilitate future upgrades. Can your bugs, #606589 and merged #606590, also be closed due to the addition of the metapackages and/or this advice to the release notes? BTW, why do we refer users to the wiki instead of including the advice inline in the release notes? Is that just the way the release notes are normally written? Don't the xen-linux-system-2.6-xen-* metapackages take care of this upgrade? I Am Not A Xenologist, but see http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=xen There's no such package in Lenny; its equivalent was the old xen-linux-system-2.6.26-2-xen-* metapackage (pulling in an old-style hypervisor and a xenlinux kernel). That doesn't turn into a dummy dependency package in Squeeze - it just disappears from the listings and leaves users scratching their heads. Mind you, how does this interact with the requirement in the generic upgrade procedure for a kernel change to handle udev? Might that fix it, if xen users are going to need a 2.6.32 xen kernel with extra metapackaginess before they can upgrade the rest of the system? -- JBR with qualifications in linguistics, experience as a Debian sysadmin, and PROBABLY NO CLUE ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR PACKAGE -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#606763: JFTR: #591233 (x11-server-utils) and #592632 (xserver-xorg) are probably the same bug, #606763 (linux 2.6.37 only) and #610491 (linux 2.6.32 on sparc) are somehow similar issues
Hi, I just noticed that some bugs are possibly related to each other in some way so I'll list them here as possible cross-references: http://bugs.debian.org/591233 (x11-server-utils: /usr/bin/xset: After 5-10 minutes the monitors gets into standby FOREVER; cold power to reboot) and http://bugs.debian.org/592632 (xserver-xorg: X11: my monitor / screen freeze after more than 30minutes) are probably the same bug as they were filed by the same submitter, the second one just 10 days later and a very similar issue. Despite being not the case with 2.6.32 kernels as in the two bug reports above, I wonder if http://bugs.debian.org/606763 (linux-image-2.6.37-rc5-686: Screen stays blank on EeePC 701 after xscreensaver turned screen off) is related to this as #591233 and #606763 both happened on ASUS hardware. Another similar issue, but on another architecture and not X related: http://bugs.debian.org/610491 (linux-image-2.6.32-5-sparc64: text console goes blank after ca. 10-15 minutes and doesn't unblank anymore) Regards, Axel -- ,''`. | Axel Beckert a...@debian.org, http://people.debian.org/~abe/ : :' : | Debian Developer, ftp.ch.debian.org Admin `. `' | 1024D: F067 EA27 26B9 C3FC 1486 202E C09E 1D89 9593 0EDE `-| 4096R: 2517 B724 C5F6 CA99 5329 6E61 2FF9 CD59 6126 16B5 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
