Bug#613499: Some SATA disks don't show up on TS-419P+

2011-02-15 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-29
Severity: important

A Debian user reported on the QNAP forum that only 2 out of the 4
disks show up onthe TS-419P+:
http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=147t=38850#p178733

This is because there's another SATA chip on PCIE1 and PCIE1 is not
initialized on this platform.

This is fixed in
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/nico/orion.git;a=commitdiff;h=31481adbabd1a6d66af40f1508531af3bed6f2c3
which I'm about to commit.

Bug#613501: linux-image-2.6.32-5-openvz-amd64: Starting vserver on ext4 FS triggers NULL pointer dereference

2011-02-15 Thread Moritz Augsburger
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-30
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Starting a vserver with it's root on ext4 crashes ext4, event with
/var/lib/vz on a different partition the root system gets unstable to
unusable. I had hanging dpkgs when trying to extract files and the
system wasn't rebootable because of the hanging guest, only
`echo b /proc/sysrq-trigger` worked.

Bug#613501: checked with ext3, doesn't crash

2011-02-15 Thread Moritz Augsburger
I just formated the LV with the vz root on it using ext3, and now it works fine:
/dev/mapper/md1_raid1-vz on /var/lib/vz type ext3 (rw)

No more problems:
Feb 15 09:22:08 brequinda kernel: [ 401.386985] warning: `vzctl' uses 32-bit
capabilities (legacy support in use)
Feb 15 09:22:08 brequinda kernel: [ 401.412070] CT: 202: started

So the Problem clearly seems to be related to ext4 and vz, ext4 outside
vz works fine

Bug#605200: linux-image-2.6.32-5-686: ipw2100 fatal interrupts using TKIP (WPA2-PSK)

2011-02-15 Thread Albin Stjerna
I, too, have this problem, but with standard unencrypted connections. At least
on my home network, WPA2-PSK does not give the same result. This is using
ipw2100 on a newly-installed squeeze on a Thinkpad X31 using cnetworkmanager to
connect.

Bug#613531: linux-2.6: Please include commit 834e2312e7a384877a876b0d34dffc3046c96bcb for USB SuperSpeed support usbfs devices file

2011-02-15 Thread Julien-externe BLACHE
Source: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-30
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

The devices file in usbfs reports Spd=?? for USB SuperSpeed buses; this
was fixed in 2.6.37 with commit 834e2312e7a384877a876b0d34dffc3046c96bcb
by printing out the correct speed (5000).

The question marks actually break some badly-written software; the fix is
available and straightforward.

The attached patch is ready to use with the current 2.6.32 kernel; the
original commit also added the correct speed for USB_SPEED_WIRELESS, I
removed it as it's not supported in 2.6.32.

Please apply,

JB.

Bug#613534: regression: ThinkVantage button doesn't work on ThinkPad R61i since 2.6.37

2011-02-15 Thread Andrei POPESCU
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.37-1~experimental.1
Severity: normal

Hi,

The ThinkVantage button is not producing any reaction at all in xev.
This worked fine until now, including on 2.6.36-trunk-amd64. Any other
things to try that might help you?

Regards,
Andrei

Why is aufs a dirty hack?

Because the Linux VFS doesn't (yet) provide the generic operations that
a union filesystem needs. If you look at the aufs config options and
the code, you will see that it needs to handle various filesystems
specially, and it needs to work around various limitations of the VFS.

I am using it for merging many HDDs in a big storage. I tested mhddfs
(http://svn.uvw.ru/mhddfs/trunk/README) and it very often crashed.

How that does that show that aufs is good?

mhddfs uses FUSE and if Valerie Aurora make the same it like reinvent
the wheel.

In any case, I am ready to become a beta-tester for new filesystem.

In 2.3.33 aufs does not work and it is not mentioned in the config file,
not even as disabled.

This means debian-live cannot boot from 2.6.33.

This is a regression since 2.6.32 which included in-kernel aufs.

Severity: normal

Since 2.6.32-5 the aesni-intel modul is missing in the kernel, therefore
crypto-stuff on intel i5/i7 with aes-ni is a lot slower than it should be.

Would be nice if it could be activated per default again.

Cryptgraphic API - AES cipher algorithms (AES-NI)

lsmod |grep -i aes

aes_x86_64 7340 3
aes_generic25714 1 aes_x86_64

There should be the aesni-intel-module

Hi

Starting with kernel 2.6.37, rtl8192su/ r8192s_usb will be replaced by
the new staging driver rtl8712/ r8712u. It would be nice if its firmware,
which has been added to firmware-linux.git this week, could be added to
the firmware-realtek package.

I can confirm that rtl8712/ r8712u with split out firmware using
request_firmware() is working with RealTek RTL8188S and RTL8191S
devices and a decent replacement/ update for rtl8192su/ r8192s_usb.

in http://bugs.debian.org/608846 , i encountered difficulties with an
NVIDIA chipset on powerpc.

These difficulties appear to be exacerbated by the fact that debian's
powerpc kernel has set

CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA=y

Please set this option to 'm' for powerpc (this course of action was
suggested by jcristau on #debian-x, who helped me find a workaround to
the earlier problem).

Thanks for maintaining the Linux kernel in debian,

Boot of linux-image-2.6.37-trunk-sparc64 fails to find the disks and drops
to the initramfs prompt. When I try to load the sym53c8xx driver it fails
as follows

A quick web search finds a similar issue
http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-kernel/2010/6/16/4583942
but I have not looked into this any further yet.

For reference the current lenny kernel boots fine on this machine.

Hi.

2.6.37 introduces regression in r8169. During every resume I get ~20
seconds delay:
Jan 10 13:57:15 rocket kernel: [36458.257780] ata1.00: configured for UDMA/100
Jan 10 13:57:15 rocket kernel: [36517.738421] r8169 :13:00.0: eth0: unable
to apply firmware patch
Jan 10 13:57:15 rocket kernel: [36517.739859] PM: resume of devices complete
after 61177.644 msecs
Jan 10 13:57:15 rocket kernel: [36517.740258] PM: Finishing wakeup.
Jan 10 13:57:15 rocket kernel: [36517.740259] Restarting tasks ... done.

Bisecting leads to commit bca03d5f32c8ee9b5cfa1d32640a63fded6cb3c0
(r8169: remove the firmware of RTL8111D.). Further debugging showed,
that firmware.agent is not called at all, I guess that udev is not
working before Restarting tasks.

Either r8169 tries to load firmware too early, or it should keep it
loaded in memory for use during resume.

The problem persist no matter if I have firmware-realtek installed, or
not.

Cheers,
Jarek.

thanks. I think it is the following code from vmi_32.c:

/*

 * sequence. The callee does nop padding for us.
 */
static unsigned vmi_patch(u8 type, u16 clobbers, void *insns,
  unsigned long ip, unsigned len)

I don't understand how the first xchg instruction in

0x00600889 f+41: 57 push %rdi
0x0060088a f+42: 9d popfq
0x0060088b f+43: 66 66 90 xchg %ax,%ax
0x0060088e f+46: 66 90 xchg %ax,%ax

can generate a general protection fault. I googled around and found

yes - it smells like it tries to deliver vector 0, after the panic
code has deinitialized the lapic / ioapic

which suggests a qemu bug from
http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/Kernel/2008-09/msg09652.html

Shall I reassign the bug or do you know how to investigate this more?

Union mounts would be a new type of filesystem-mount, rather than a

Sorry for the delayed response. (I have been on a business trip).

Very good to know. Unfortunatly this build did not reach the
stable release.

Maks, do you know if this would be a good candidate for the next point
release?

Bug#599375: freezes randomly using xserver-xorg-video-intel on Intel 82845G/GL graphics chipset

2011-02-15 Thread bd
Subject: Re: freezes randomly using xserver-xorg-video-intel on Intel 82845G/GL
graphics chipset
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.13.0-5
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

After upgrading to Squeeze this bug just affected me.

With xserver-xorg-video-intel installed, I got X up and running (LXDE) until I
started the Monitor Settings Thingy, which lead to an X lockup. Switching to
Console still worked for me. I found:

[drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns -5

in dmesg.

When I remove xserver-xorg-video-intel, the system just locks up, no ping, no
nothing. -fbdev is installed.

However it seems, that with the backports kernel:

2.6.32-bpo.5-686

and xserver-xorg-video-intel installed, I get no lockups.

HTH

  Stefan

End of message, stopping processing

does squeeze have these fixes?

2011-02-15 Thread Aleksandar Kostadinov
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19462

I'm seeing similar errors on my acer notebook like in the bugzilla
above. Could anybody confirm if squeeze has these fixes already
backported?

Thank you,
Aleksandar
