Bug#616295: bugs.debian.org: md raid starts before all device ready in /dev

2011-03-05 Thread Константин Алексеев
Ok, I fixed it for me, adding rootdelay=5 in the kernel parameters.

2011/3/3 Don Armstrong d...@debian.org:
This bug has nothing to do with bdo, and honestly, I'm not sure if
it's actually a big deal at all, either... the initrd should load the
remaining raid devices after the kernel boots.

Bug#616581: initramfs-tools: USB keyboard not available with init=/bin/sh

2011-03-05 Thread Michal Suchanek
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.98.8
Severity: important

Can't use an USB keyboard when I boot with init=/bin/sh.

Kind of defeats the purpose of this option.

This is on a freshly bootstrapped system with no changes to the default options.

Bug#582776: pointless generation of an initrd for initrd-free custom kernels

2011-03-05 Thread Michal Suchanek
Package: initramfs-tools
Severity: normal

Note that if you build your kernel with kernel-package it has an option to
build an initrd which defautls to off.

As you mention kernel-package you must have turned that option on for the
initrd to be generated.

Actually not only when this option is off the initrd is not generated but there
is no initrd generated in a chroot, regardless of this option.

So all in all initramfs-tools don't generate intrds when they should, not the
other way around, at least in my experience.

Thanks

Michal

rebooted into 2.6.37-2-powerpc which did not complete the booting
procces just the way 2.6.37-1-powerpc did.

This also works on a PowerBook G4 here. Presumably, without this
vga16fb tries to take over from offb, and this does not work. I didn't
imagine that it would try to do that!

* Has anyone tested 2.6.37-{1,2} on a non-Mac system yet, and does
vga16fb work there?

Using this parameter, I can get as far as running some of the init
scripts, but as soon as the radeon driver (*not* radeonfb) is loaded -
either by udev or the X server, depending on modprobe configuration -
the screen goes black - handover from offb to radeon is not working.

I also tested 2.6.38-rc6-1~experimental.1. Here, the radeon driver
prints a few lines, ending with:

fb: conflicting fb hw usage radeondrmfrb vs OFfb ATY,Xia_A - removing
generic driver

and then nothing more is displayed on the screen (though the system is
otherwise alive). So it seems that radeon is not yet able to take over
from offb and we need to stay with radeonfb and UMS in X for now.

* Could some Mac users test and report whether i915 or nouveau can
successfully take over the display from offb in 2.6.37 or 2.6.38-rc6?

Ben.

Bug#614326: bug still appears in 2.6.37-2

2011-03-05 Thread Ken Yee
Noticed this bug was marked as not in 2.6.37-1. FWIW, it's still in 2.6.37-2
and the latest dist-upgrade from today (5 Mar 2011) doesn't fix it.

What's interesting is that this doesn't seem to be dependent on kernel version,
even though the asix driver is part of the kernel.

I've also tried another usb adapter...the Monoprice Gigabit one. It doesn't
log any errors, but you can't transfer packets outside the machine or into the
machine from that interface. However, in VirtualBox, you can ping the VM from
that interface and vice-versa (the host machine and the VM both have two
interfaces). This behavior doesn't makes sense to me...it's like the physical
layer doesn't work for that interface bug Linux understands how to short
circuit packets that stay on the same machine? :-P

cleanly, but seemed not a problem) , waiting for some time unplugged,

Perhaps we could bisect further inside this multi-purpose patch, but
I don't know how to do it.

You can find all the individual patches as a quilt series in:

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/longterm/longterm-queue-2.6.32.git

subdirectory releases/2.6.32.28.

Since quilt doesn't have a bisect command you would have to have to keep
track of good and bad positions in the series yourself. I would guess
that it's most likely one of:

releases/2.6.32.28/pm-hibernate-fix-pm_post_-notification-with-user-space-suspend.patch
releases/2.6.32.28/x86-enable-the-intr-remap-fault-handling-after-local-apic-setup.patch

so you could try reverting those before going through the whole series.

Ben.

imagine that it would try to do that!

Here, the radeon driver
prints a few lines, ending with:

fb: conflicting fb hw usage radeondrmfrb vs OFfb ATY,Xia_A - removing
 generic driver

model : PowerBook5,8

Linux version 2.6.38-rc7-samweis
Linux version 2.6.37-samweis
Linux version 2.6.36-samweis

nonfree firmware package is needed:

$ cat /proc/fb
0 radeondrmfb

Can you send the kernel .config file for 2.6.38-rc7-samweis?

Ben.
