I am quite busy these days. However I will try to review the old bug reports and check whether the new version have fixed them. I will also try to investigate the remaining ones. Bug#683015: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: Soft lockup
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.32-45 Severity: important Tags: squeeze Encountered a soft lockup running the latest stable debian kernel. We noticed this when our server load went to 40, and everything slowed to a crawl. The process it refers to is just a shell script that runs regularly, copying files off the machine to another using scp. I killed the transfer_log_file.sh scripts that were running, to no avail. I would have liked to debug this more thoroughly but we had to get it working again ASAP. The machine had been up for some time and we've had no other similar issues, that I'm aware of. Bug#683026: [debian-kernel-handbook] deb-pkg builds amd64 image package on i386
Package: debian-kernel-handbook Version: 1.0.14 Severity: important I followed the procedure for Building a custom kernel from Debian kernel source on an i386 wheezy install. The resulting package is targetted at the amd64 Debian architecture and cannot be installed on my system (which is physically x86-64): # LANG=C dpkg -i ../linux-image-3.4.4_3.4.4-1_amd64.deb dpkg: error processing ../linux-image-3.4.4_3.4.4-1_amd64.deb (--install): package architecture (amd64) does not match system (i386) Errors were encountered while processing: ../linux-image-3.4.4_3.4.4-1_amd64.deb root@vinci:/home/chealer/sources/linux-source-3.4# I used the experimental linux. Most likely a package from linux is the culprit, and not the handbook, but as I'm not sure which component is at fault, I'm assigning to the handbook understanding someone more knowledgeable will probably have to reassign. I configured the image using make oldconfig, using the config from the stock image I'm currently running, 3.2.0-3-amd64. I'm not sure what conditions create this, but I suspect this wouldn't happen on a 32 bits machine.
