It looks like linux-base needs to be re-uploaded (it's arch:all, so
binNMUs won't help).

http://release.debian.org/transitions/html/perl5.18.html apparently only
covers dependencies on 'perl' not 'perlapi-5.14.2' so it seems to be
understating the size of this transition.

Does this make sense?

Bug#721088: initramfs-tools: nfsroot with pxelinux fails on systems with multiple NICs

2013-08-28 Thread Michael Prokop
* Martin Mares [Tue Aug 27, 2013 at 10:49:38PM +0200]:

When I try to use Debian initramfs to mount root over NFS on a machine with
multiple NICs, it never succeeds, because the initramfs configures all NICs
 with the same IP address.

[...]
I propose the following fix: In the complex ip parameter case (around line
393 in my version of the scripts/functions file), the DEVICE variable should
be checked and if it already set, ipconfig should be run only on the selected
 device.

Also, the NEW_DEVICE logic below that call to ipconfig is likely wrong for the
same reason. I think it should be moved to the same place where the BOOTIF
 check resides.

Hm, your approach sounds good to me. If it doesn't break any setups
by modifying existing behaviour I'm totaly in favor of it.

If you wish, I can provide a patch.

That would be definitely appreciated.

Thanks for your detailed bug report and willingness to fix it.

regards,

Not to me, linux-base does not depend on perl nor perl-api-5.14.2. All
that's needed is a rebuild of libuuid-perl against the newer perl, and
libuuid-perl is listed on the above page.

Cheers,

You already found out that this a problem in libuuid-perl. Also, in
unstable, dependencies may break without notice. Additional bug-reports
only higher the work for everybody.

Bug#721191: linux: patch for parisc/hppa architecture

2013-08-28 Thread Helge Deller
Package: linux
Version: 3.10
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Dear Debian kernel maintainers,

could you please apply the attached trivial patch, which enables support for
C8000 PARISC workstation with your latest 3.10 (and higher) unstable kernel.

Basically this patch just adds some more Linux kernel config options for the
built-in SCSI- (FUSION_SPI), IDE- (SIIMAGE), NIC- (Intel E1000) and graphics
card (ATI Radeon FireGL x1/x3). Without those options, the built kernel will
not boot on this workstation, since the necessary drivers are not included in
the debian kernel package.

The C8000 workstation only supports 64bit Linux kernels, which is why I only
modified the config-parisc64 and config-parisc64-smp files.

In addition, I've switched the defines file so that on parisc now the gcc-4.7
compiler will be used. All your other arches already use the gcc-4.7 compiler
(with exception of m68k?), so this should be fine for you as well (I hope).

I've successfully built and bootstrapped all kernels myself on various machines
(including C8000, C3000 and 715/64[32bit]).

It would be nice, if you could apply this patch to your linux source code tree.

In the file debian/installer/hppa/modules/hppa/pata-modules I added an entry
for the siimage module (for the IDE CDROM). Maybe it would be better, if this
entry could be moved to the generic pata-modules file instead? But I leave
this decision up to you...

Thanks a lot in advance,
Helge Deller
(PARISC (upstream) Linux kernel maintainer).

PS: PARISC debian unstable packages are *NOT* available on
http://www.debian-ports.org/, instead we are currently maintaining our packages
at http://ftp.parisc-linux.org/debian-ports/ where we currently host more than
8600 up-to-date debian unstable packages.

PPS: A switch to gcc-4.8 should be possible soon as well for the parisc
kernel we are working on that at this moment

PPPS: CONFIG_MLONGCALLS=y is necessary since the built kernel otherwise gets
too big so that jumps can't be reached.

Bug#721191: linux: patch for parisc/hppa architecture

2013-08-28 Thread Bastian Blank
On Wed, Aug 28, 2013 at 11:22:09PM +0200, Helge Deller wrote:
could you please apply the attached trivial patch, which enables support for
C8000 PARISC workstation with your latest 3.10 (and higher) unstable kernel.

Okay.

It would be nice, if you could apply this patch to your linux source code
 tree.

Looks reasonable. But please send further changes to remove the non-smp
kernels.

PS: PARISC debian unstable packages are *NOT* available on
http://www.debian-ports.org/, instead we are currently maintaining our
packages at http://ftp.parisc-linux.org/debian-ports/ where we currently host
more than 8600 up-to-date debian unstable packages.

Well. We don't care. None of this repos are actually supported by us.

PPPS: CONFIG_MLONGCALLS=y is necessary since the built kernel otherwise gets
too big so that jumps can't be reached.

Are there drawbacks?

Bastian

I can do that. Do you have some background on this request for me?
Is it policy that you only want to gave SMP-kernels?
(Actually I had a similiar idea to use kernel alternatives on parisc too
to avoid different UP/SMP kernels).

PPPS: CONFIG_MLONGCALLS=y is necessary since the built kernel
otherwise gets too big so that jumps can't be reached.

Yes, it might be a little bit slower since the jumps now have one
CPU instruction more. But there is no other way to solve it unless
we drop some unneccessary kernel options for parisc.

Helge

Bug#690737: at least on 3.10

2013-08-28 Thread Carlos R. Pasqualini
Hi people!!

the subjet of this mail is a realted question:

can we have this option by default at least on Testing?

today, i have installed 3.10 backport kernel for testing Skyld AV and
found that i need to recompile the kernel (i'm using wheezy +
backports):

root@capibara:~# uname -a
Linux capibara 3.10-0.bpo.2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.10.5-1~bpo70+1
(2013-08-11) x86_64 GNU/Linux
root@capibara:~# grep CONFIG_FANOTIFY /boot/config-$(uname -r)
CONFIG_FANOTIFY=y
# CONFIG_FANOTIFY_ACCESS_PERMISSIONS is not set

may be, as the point on having a unstable/testing distro is to test new
things, we can have a pilot prove of the side efects of turning
CONFIG_FANOTIFY_ACCESS_PERMISSIONS to 'y'

i have googled around and cannot find any report that this option makes
any side effect, may be i'm just looking in the wrong place.

Do we know of any side/negative effect of turning this option to on?

Thanks!
