I'm not sure what the policy on enabling modules for boards that don't
yet have the corresponding device-tree entries, but it would be nice to
have all of the modules mentioned below enabled, so that when
device-tree support is available for HiKey (or other boards) upstream,
the debian kernel packages will "just work". It also makes it easier to
use a user-supplied device-tree without having to recompile the kernel.

Package: src:linux
Version: 4.4.6-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

after upgrading to the new kernel in my kvm I can not mount a floppy.
I do not know what the last working kernel was, because I carelessly deleted
the old kernel after upgrading.
But I have installed the kernel from jessie: linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64
3.16.7-ckt25-1 and when booting this kernel,
mounting floppy works again.

Please enable the designware watchdog timer module, used on the
Firefly-RK3288.

Tested on 4.5, but is also available in 4.4.x and would be nice to
have there too.

In the aufs project aufs4.4 branch, commit
969b710f2860b8d5660ac9e6f96e886ae29b4dfa (Tue Mar 1 20:27:32 2016
+0900)[0] has updated aufs4-base.patch to expose setfl in fs/fcntl.c -
this is now relied on in aufs4.4, and it fails to compile against the
current Debian v4.4 kernel source.

Please can you update the aufs patches for this kernel package.

Thanks

To ensure the integrity of the kernel, we should support a securelevel
where all modules must be signed by a trusted key and all APIs
allowing arbitrary memory writes are disabled.

To meet Secure Boot requirements, we need to turn this on whenever
booted with SB enabled.

I have used today's version of
http://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/amd64/daily/netboot/netboot.tar.gz to
perform a pxeboot with seeded configuration of stretch amd64. Same thing
happens if I perform a simple manual ext4 install On reboot, I get 'EXT4-fs
(sda2): Cannot load crc32c driver.' and I end up at a busybox prompt.

If I rebuild by substituting ext4 with ext3, I get a successful boot.

Here is an example of the seed file entry for the filesystem configuration.
Which worked in linux-image-4.3.0 earlky in March:

# for internal use; can be preseeded
d-i partman-auto/expert_recipe string \
  custom1 ::  \
75 1000 100 ext4\
  $primary{ } $bootable{ } \
  method{ format } format{ }\
  use_filesystem{ } filesystem{ ext4 } \
  mountpoint{ /boot } \
  . \
1000 4000 5000 ext4 \
  $primary{ } \
  method{ format } format{ }\
  use_filesystem{ } filesystem{ ext4 } \
  mountpoint{ / } \
  . \

  $primary{ } \
  method{ format } format{ }\
  use_filesystem{ } filesystem{ btrfs } \

  . \

  use_filesystem{ } filesystem{ ext4 } \

  . \
1000 1000 4000 ext4 \
  method{ format } format{ }\
  use_filesystem{ } filesystem{ ext4 } \
  mountpoint{ /tmp }\
  .

Here is the final output of the boot sequence to console:
=

Tested the following patch on an Odroid-XU4 to enable all 8 CPU cores.

The options are also available on 4.4.x, but I haven't tested with

Dear Maintainer,

When having the notebook on the AC, suspending works. But if the notebook is on
batteries and I close the lid to suspend, the notebook freezes instantly.
When I add the intel_pstate=no_hwp parameter to the grub configuration, the
problem vanishes, but the notebook uses more power.

There already exists a kernel bug tracker entry for this problem: Bug 113551 -
intel_pstate=no_hwp else Thinkpad T460s freezes on lid close on battery power
(https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=113551).
I can confirm this problem on my T460 device.

Please enable the watchdog timer used on Odroid-XU4 systems, and
possibly others. Tested the following patch on an Odroid-XU4.

The module is also available in 4.4.x, although I haven't tested it.

Tested with the patch applied from #815476.

In theory, omap-ocp2scp (and maybe extcon-usb-gpio) is needed to support
eSATA as well, although at the moment sata support doesn't work on the
BeagleBoard-X15. So maybe there's a more appropriate place for some of
these modules... not sure where exactly.

Dear Maintainer,

I found my orion5x based Linkstation started to fail probing MTD

I uses the same DTB, which ships with latest sid kernel, to do previous test.
(I put the DTB in /etc/flash-kernel/dtbs/)
It with the patches I applied:
-
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/kernel/linux.git/tree/debian/patches/features/arm/device-tree?h=sid

I also checked the diff of kernel config for the two kernels, but found no clue.
And, the kirkwood based Linkstation doesn't have this issue.

Cheers,

Package: linux-image-4.4.0-1-amd64
Version: 4.4.4-1
Severity: critical
Justification: renders system unusable

When I run the following commands, the system freezes:

# echo 0 | tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/online && echo 1 | sudo tee
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/online

The system freezes randomly when the CPUs are being onlined or offlined. The
system is installed on a VMware virtual machine with 4 processors. Here's a
stacktrace of the infinite loop:

Hi,

new major upstream releases (e.g. 4.4) of src:linux and src:linux-tools
should migrate together to testing. Right now src:linux-tools 4.4-4 is
already in testing, which doesn't look too useful to me without
src:linux 4.4.x-y.

Does any of the binary packages built from linux-tools have a dependency
on something from src:linux that could be made versioned?
Or add a linux-tools-dummy package which Depends: linux-source-X.Y

Package: src:linux
Version: 4.4.6-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

It seems that the kernel module 'snd-ice1712.ko' is missing from the
linux-image-4.4.0-1-amd64 package.

$ find /lib/modules/4.4.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712 -name '*.ko'
/lib/modules/4.4.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/snd-ice17xx-ak4xxx.ko
/lib/modules/4.4.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/snd-ice1724.ko

$ find /lib/modules/4.3.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712 -name '*.ko'
/lib/modules/4.3.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/snd-ice17xx-ak4xxx.ko
/lib/modules/4.3.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/snd-ice1724.ko
/lib/modules/4.3.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/snd-ice1712.ko

As a result, sound doesn't work anymore on my computer.
I have a M-AUDIO 2496 board (see below), whose kernel module is snd-ice1712.

$ lspci

0a:01.0 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. ICE1712 [Envy24] PCI
Multi-Channel I/O Controller (rev 02)

As a workaround, I'm currently booting the previous linux version
(4.3.0-1-amd64), this way I can have sound again.

Thanks,
Sebastien Alaiwan

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

I usually run custom kernels based off the configuration of recent
Debian kernels.

I notice that as of 4.4.0-1-amd64 (and hence also linux-image-4.5.0-rc7-amd64)
that CONFIG_ZONE_DMA is not set and that disables the EMU10K ALSA sound driver
which is needed for a card that I was considering adding to this machine.

I do not know if this was an upstream or Debian change, intentional or not,
but it is an unpleasant surprise to discover hardware support removed
especially as at least one ALSA developer runs this hardware himself.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Hi,

This bug exists just to track progress of a prerequisite to fix #796633
(severity: important).

I submitted a kernel patch yesterday to issue a uevent upon disconnect
of an nbd device (the lkml URL in $SUBJECT contains it). This is
required in order for systemd to properly track whether an nbd device is
connected; that in turn is required for a proper systemd unit file for
nbd devices in replacement the rc.S init script; and doing so is
required as part of a release goal for stretch.

I'll keep this bug updated when/if the patch gets merged upstream.

this have happened for quite some time now (I remember it happening from kernel

made available through the experimental repo. linux-kbuild isn't made available
at the same time so the linux-headers can't be installed.

Hello,

the kernel headers for the trunk kernel are again not available.

As it is suggested somewhere that the missing kbuild package can be
easily generated I looked in the package docs. Sadly, no trace of a hint
how to install the headers.

Please fix the packages.

Thanks

Package: linux-headers-3.5-trunk-amd64
Version: 3.5-1~experimental.1
Severity: normal

Dear maintainer,
trying to install the headers for 3.5 on Debian Wheezy I've noticed,
the package linux-kbuild-3.5 is not available in the repository. Are
there any problems with linux-tools for 3.5?

Kindly regards,
Andrey

P.S. Thanks for providing latest kernels with -rt builds for Debian!

Package: linux-kbuild-2.6.34
Version: 2.6.34-1~experimental.1
Severity: normal

linux-image-2.6.36 packges have been on experimental for a while now,
but there's still no trace of any accompagnying linux-kbuild.
This is apparently the usual way things work w.r.t experimental
kernel packages.
I think this makes those kernels significantly less useful. So I'm
urging the Debian kernel guys to try and arrange their workflow such
the linux-kbuild package is "automatically" always uploaded right
away as soon as the first linux-image is uploaded.

Of course, the only reason I ever need the linux-kbuild package is
for module-assistant, so another solution is to teach module-assistant
to work around the lack of linux-kbuild (maybe let it try to download
and use the linux-source-NNN package instead).

Package: linux-kbuild-2.6
Severity: normal

Hi,

please build a new version of linux-kbuild-2.6 for 2.6.33 and upload it
to experimental to accompany the 2.6.33 kernel there. That way we can
build kernel modules for 2.6.33 and give the new kernel more testing.

Thanks.

Andreas

All I know is with sid or experimental, a mount like

can not actually be written to.
The most one can do is touch(1) the dates of _existing_ files.

package: linux-kbuild-2.6
version: 2.6.30-1
severity: important
tags: security

hi,

the linux-kbuild-2.6 source package includes portions of code from the
linux-2.6 source package (i.e. everything in ./kbuild/*). this is bad
in terms of security support because it causes more work for the
security team and increases the risk of errors, omissions, and mistakes.

less significant, but also important, is that since the kbuild package
is separated from the linux package, the kbuild packages always lag by
weeks or months after a new kernel release; making it impossible to
build modules for that new kernel.

the recommended course of action is to update the linux-2.6 source
package to also build the kbuild binaries. thanks.

mike

Bug#789019: linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64: please enable CONFIG_CFS_BANDWIDTH

I just discovered that I need it to use appfap to reduce the priority of
background
desktop applications, so I would very much like to get it enabled in Stable too.

Is there any reason not to enable it?

'reportbug kernel' or 'reporting linux-image-$(uname -r)' would
generate a report including system information.

You'll need to log what happens somehow, either netconsole
 or
serial console
.

Subject: sparc: Enable autoloading for vio drivers.
Bug-Debian: https://bugs.debian.org/815977

The vio driver on sparc has been missing both modalias_show as
well as a hotplug event handler which are both required to
enable automatic loading for the vio modules. With this patch,
both sunvnet and sunvdc are loaded automatically which is
necessary when installing Debian in a sparc LDOM.

Hold on a second, I had a copy-and-paste error, the patch needs
a slight update since __ATTR_RO(modalias) is misssing in
vio_dev_attrs.

I need to check gcc-5.
Regarding the patch to the parisc kernel, you can drop my request.
We reverted a gcc-4.9 change, and now the kernel builds sucessfully again.

Thanks!

Dear all,

I am hoping someone could help me diagnose the following bug report:

https://bugs.debian.org/798102

[...]
After waking from hibernate, I get lots of kworker activity that makes my
fans kick in. Top shows a process called kworker/0:3 always active using
around 3% cpu, and Powertop shows a process using 320 ms/s with the Category
Kwork and the Description ams_worker (Powertop also shows about 33% cpu usage).
I assume ams stands for Apple Motion Sensor, and when I unload the module
"ams" everything returns to normal and my fans quiet down.

This is on an aluminum Powerbook (PowerBook5,6).
[...]

Is there any tool to use to check the behavior of the ams kernel module ?

Thanks much--- End Message ---
