Bug#949910: linux-image-4.19.0-6-amd64: bnx2x driver fails in DMAE, renders server unusable
Package: src:linux Version: 4.19.67-2+deb10u2 Severity: critical Tags: upstream Justification: breaks the whole system Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? Upgraded Debian from 9 to 10. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Have tried various module options, also have tried not using bonding. * What was the outcome of this action? Driver soft-lockup, causing overall system instability and unusability. * What outcome did you expect instead? Driver should work with existing harware. Actual failure looks like this in dmesg: syslog:Jan 26 15:49:50 muug kernel: [734667.232433] bnx2x: [bnx2x_write_dmae:597(enp3s0f1)]DMAE returned failure -1 syslog:Jan 26 15:49:50 muug kernel: [734667.432133] bnx2x: [bnx2x_issue_dmae_with_comp:549(enp3s0f1)]DMAE timeout! syslog:Jan 26 15:49:50 muug kernel: [734667.432525] bnx2x: [bnx2x_write_dmae:597(enp3s0f1)]DMAE returned failure -1 syslog:Jan 26 15:49:50 muug kernel: [734667.632114] bnx2x: [bnx2x_issue_dmae_with_comp:549(enp3s0f1)]DMAE timeout! syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [1.358268] bnx2x: QLogic 5771x/578xx 10/20-Gigabit Ethernet Driver bnx2x 1.712.30-0 (2014/02/10) syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [1.358322] bnx2x :03:00.0: msix capability found syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [1.358541] bnx2x :03:00.0: part number 394D4342-34383735-30345430-473030 syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [1.459205] bnx2x :03:00.0: 31.504 Gb/s available PCIe bandwidth, limited by 8 GT/s x4 link at :00:01.2 (capable of 63.008 Gb/s with 8 GT/s x8 link) syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [1.459303] bnx2x :03:00.1: msix capability found syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [1.459477] bnx2x :03:00.1: part number 394D4342-34383735-30345430-473030 syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [1.502898] bnx2x :03:00.1: 31.504 Gb/s available PCIe bandwidth, limited by 8 GT/s x4 link at :00:01.2 (capable of 63.008 Gb/s with 8 GT/s x8 link) syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [1.503800] bnx2x :03:00.1 enp3s0f1: renamed from eth1 syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [1.554228] bnx2x :03:00.0 enp3s0f0: renamed from eth0 except that there are thousands of bnx2x error messages. Those interfaces cannot pass traffic. The interrupt storm or dmesg flood or something also renders the system unusable even through unaffected interfaces. These interfaces worked fine in Debian 9 mid-way through its lifecycle, but the current packages failed. I opted to try upgrading to 10, but this still fails in Debian 10. (I don't know the version of the last unaffected kernel, sorry - we were way behind by accident, and jumped a year+ in kernel versions.) I've found multiple issues around the 'net relating to this, all noting essentially the same behaviour. A regular "reboot" is inadequate to reboot (within 24hrs, anyway), I have to issue a "reboot -f". -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 4.19.0-6-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 8.3.0 (Debian 8.3.0-6)) #1 SMP Debian 4.19.67-2+deb10u2 (2019-11-11) ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-4.19.0-6-amd64 root=UUID=3142d5ea-ae76-4a19-b49d-5e5b16c796e6 ro quiet ** Tainted: POE (12289) * Proprietary module has been loaded. * Out-of-tree module has been loaded. * Unsigned module has been loaded. ** Kernel log: [ 12.859416] RPC: Registered tcp transport module. Hi everyone, I think this bug is maybe a duplicate of https://bugs.debian.org/939170 Greetings Felix Rublack
Bug#939170: linux: does not suspend completely, locks up
Hi everyone, I have the same issue on a ThinkPad T460s (suspend works only half way, reboot and poweroff stop just short before actual shutdown). I bisected the problem to the TPM driver. Blacklisting the module in modprobe.d fixed the problem for me. Sample configuration: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-tpm.conf # Prevent TPM from loading. It breaks suspend and power cycle. blacklist tpm blacklist tpm_crb blacklist tpm_tis blacklist tpm_tis_core Greetings Felix Rublack
Bug#949886: linux: Cherry Trail power management regressions
Package: linux Version: 5.5~rc7-1~exp1 Severity: wishlist CONFIG_INTEL_CHT_INT33FE (already enabled) began requiring CONFIG_USB_ROLES_INTEL_XHCI and CONFIG_TYPEC_MUX_PI3USB30532 as of kernel version 4.17. CONFIG_INTEL_SOC_PMIC_CHTWC (already enabled) started to require CONFIG_I2C_DESIGNWARE_PLATFORM compiled in rather than a module as of 5.1. Also in 5.1, some Cherry Trail systems like the GPD Pocket UMPC and GPD Win portable began to need CONFIG_PMIC_OPREGION enabled for LCD power initialization when external monitors are connected.
