Hi,

My PC has [AMD/ATI] Kaveri [Radeon R7 Graphics] card.

When I add radeon.cik_support=0 amdgpu.cik_support=1 in grub.cfg boot line,
the PC can't boot, it's screen will dark, the keyboard also can't use.

I find the kernel NULL pointer infos in the kern.log after I power restart
the PC which not use amdgpu.cik_support=1:

The following infos copy from /var/log/kern.log:

Bug#1023631: firmware-misc-nonfree: Possibly missing firmware for Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z PCIe sound card

2022-11-07 Thread Julian Groß
Package: firmware-misc-nonfree
Version: 20221012-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I have been running into weird behaviour on my Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z
(Serial number either SB1500 or SB1502).
Just now I noticed that a seemingly related firmware file doesn't get loaded.
Here is a section out of dmesg:

[9.591329] snd_hda_intel :02:00.0: firmware: failed to load
ctefx-desktop.bin (-2)
[9.591355] firmware_class: See https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware for
information about missing firmware
[9.591387] snd_hda_intel :02:00.0: firmware: failed to load
ctefx-desktop.bin (-2)
[9.591409] snd_hda_intel :02:00.0: Direct firmware load for
ctefx-desktop.bin failed with error -2
[9.592599] snd_hda_intel :02:00.0: firmware: direct-loading firmware
ctefx.bin

ctefx-desktop.bin shows up in the list of firmware that is supposed to be
included in Debian. https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware/List

While the driver seems to load a different firmware file, and the sound card
works most of the time, the identification in lspci seems wrong, and there is
random issues like no audio output until reboot, "electric" audio output until
reboot, no audio input until reboot, settings needing to be applied multiple
times, and alsactl store failing.
lspci reports a "Subsystem: Creative Labs SB1570 SB Audigy Fx", while this card
is from a different series and looks completely different from it.
Not knowing much about this sort of thing, I am assuming the driver is falling
back to the firmware for a different sound card, which might be causing a bunch
of my issues.

Just upgraded 6.0.0-2 from 6.0.3-1 to 6.0.5-1 and firmware-iwlwifi, which
provides the intel/ibt-20-1-3.sfi file, from 20210818-1 to 20221012-1.
Still no working keyboard after booting following a poweroff.

I'm back to booting 5.18.0-3 which loads the file just fine and gives me
back my keyboard.

To maybe clarify this a bit: While kernel-install does target BLS primarily, it
has support for differing layouts via the KERNEL_INSTALL_LAYOUT environment
variable (set via layout= in {/usr/lib,/etc}/kernel/install.conf).

kernel-install scripts are also just that, executables with two CLI entry points
(add and remove) and a set of fixed environment variables that they
receive. Currently all of this is written in POSIX shell (compatible with
dash) - they can be made to do everything.

The BLS type 1 loader entries (an example can be found in the BLS [1]) can in
the worst case be read with a line of AWK or shell, but Unified Kernel Images
(UKIs / BLS type 2) are fully self-contained and can do without any sidecar
config files.

kernel-install and BLS support a bit more than the machine ID here, The relevant
keyword to look for in the kernel-install manpage and BLS is "entry-token".

This was added for golden master setups, because the machine ID will probably
only generated on first boot, but the initrd would be generated beforehand.

Jörg

Bug#987116: Not reproducible using linux-firmware-20210511

2022-11-07 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
  Hello all:

I'm in bullseye but I have some packages from backports. When I decided to
look into this
problem - which had annoyed me sometimes - I was using bullseye (stable)
linux-iwlwifi
20210315-3. I'm running linux-image from bullseye-backports though
(5.19.0-0.deb11.2-
amd64 -- 5.19.11-1~bpo11+1).

I came across this bug report [1] which has been really helpful with this
problem. After this, I
manually downloaded the linux-firmware 20210511 snapshot and took the relevant
.sfi and
.ddc files directly replacing what I had at /lib/firmware/intel/

[1] https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/issues/1155[1]

After this I rebooted and tried again. Currently I resumed being a happy user
of my
bluetooth headset.

Testing linux-firmware-20211216 snapshot is still pending as it is reported
to work on [1],
but so far I did not have the time to test.

  HTH, regards,
