Re: Re: Installation of Debian bookworm (testing) on Lenovo IdeaPad 5G 14Q8X05
Hi,the latest version of kernel 6.5 supports the Lenovo Flex 5G SoC SC8180X https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v6.x/ChangeLog-6.5. I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 5G 14Q8X05 with SoC SC8180XP which is the evolution of the Flex one with the same CPU-GPU, but at higher frequency, with BT 5.1 and WiFi 6 instead of BT 5 and WiFi 5. Do you think it will work? If not, are you going to add support for SC8180XP? Thank you--- Original Message --- On Saturday, January 21st, 2023 at 10:05 AM, alfredo.nodo wrote: > Hi,I tried the latest daily build of debian unstable with kernel 6.1 and now > the SoC is recognised correctly. Bug#1051163: linux-image-6.1.0-11-amd64: NVIDIA graphics cards have no frame buffer during boot
Package: src:linux Version: 6.1.38-4 Severity: normal X-Debbugs-Cc: martin.d.john...@outlook.com Dear Maintainer, A patch in the kernel caused problems with the NVIDIA graphics cards causing the frame buffer to be disabled and not to appear at boot under certain circumstances. This issue appears on both my machines with dual GeForce 1050TI graphics cards and the proprietary NVIDIA driver. Not having the frame buffer also makes it very difficult to install said proprietary drivers on the debian kernel (and other kernels), since they often crash the system when installing with graphical.target. Applying this patch from upstream fixes the issue: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=5ae3716cfdcd286268133867f67d0803847acefc Once the patch applied then the framebuffer works fine again on boot, both Linux machines with dual NVIDIA GeForce 1050TI cards tested. So we are now able to easily find a new class of bugs that was hidden before where flags meant for the host architecture are passed to the build architecture compiler and vice-versa. In the future, dpkg will fix this by setting flags like CFLAGS_FOR_BUILD which should be used for native gcc invocations. Until then, these variables can be set manually. Setting these manually is only a crutch because they get side-effects from DEB__MAINT_ DEB__ and thus the following patch uses ?= to not override the variables as set by dpkg: diff -Nru linux-6.4.11/debian/rules.real linux-6.4.11/debian/rules.real --- linux-6.4.11/debian/rules.real 2023-08-17 09:05:43.0 +0200 +++ linux-6.4.11/debian/rules.real 2023-09-01 06:43:41.0 +0200 @@ -43,7 +43,10 @@ setup_env += DISTRIBUTION_OFFICIAL_BUILD=1 DISTRIBUTOR="$(DISTRIBUTOR)" DISTRIBUTION_VERSION="$(SOURCEVERSION)" KBUILD_BUILD_TIMESTAMP="$(SOURCE_DATE)" KBUILD_BUILD_VERSION_TIMESTAMP="$(DISTRIBUTOR) $(SOURCEVERSION) ($(SOURCE_DATE_UTC_ISO))" KBUILD_BUILD_USER="$(word 1,$(subst @, ,$(MAINTAINER)))" KBUILD_BUILD_HOST="$(word 2,$(subst @, ,$(MAINTAINER)))" setup_env += KBUILD_VERBOSE=$(if $(filter terse,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)),0,1) -MAKE_CLEAN = $(setup_env) $(MAKE) KCFLAGS=-fdebug-prefix-map=$(CURDIR)/= KBUILD_HOSTCFLAGS='$(CFLAGS) $(CPPFLAGS)' HOSTCFLAGS='$(CFLAGS) $(CPPFLAGS)' KBUILD_HOSTLDFLAGS='$(LDFLAGS)' +CFLAGS_FOR_BUILD ?= $(shell dpkg-architecture --host-arch $(DEB_BUILD_ARCH) --force --command dpkg-buildflags --get CFLAGS) +CPPFLAGS_FOR_BUILD ?= $(shell dpkg-architecture --host-arch $(DEB_BUILD_ARCH) --force --command dpkg-buildflags --get CPPFLAGS) +LDFLAGS_FOR_BUILD ?= $(shell dpkg-architecture --host-arch $(DEB_BUILD_ARCH) --force --command dpkg-buildflags --get LDFLAGS) +MAKE_CLEAN = $(setup_env) $(MAKE) KCFLAGS=-fdebug-prefix-map=$(CURDIR)/= KBUILD_HOSTCFLAGS='$(CFLAGS_FOR_BUILD) $(CPPFLAGS_FOR_BUILD)' HOSTCFLAGS='$(CFLAGS_FOR_BUILD) $(CPPFLAGS_FOR_BUILD)' KBUILD_HOSTLDFLAGS='$(LDFLAGS_FOR_BUILD)' MAKE_SELF := $(MAKE) -f debian/rules.real $(MAKEOVERRIDES) MAKEOVERRIDES = This makes the error from above disappear and the build proceeds nicely but a new error will be triggered later on: make[5]: Entering directory '/tmp/linux-6.4.11/tools/lib/subcmd' aarch64-linux-gnu-gcc -Wp,-MD,/tmp/linux-6.4.11/debian/build/build-tools/tools/objtool/powerpc/libsubcmd/.exec-cmd.o.d -Wp,-MT,/tmp/linux-6.4.11/debian/build/build-tools/tools/objtool/powerpc/libsubcmd/exec-cmd.o -ggdb3 -Wall -Wextra -std=gnu99 -fPIC -O6 -Werror -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_GNU_SOURCE -I/tmp/linux-6.4.11/tools/include/ -Wbad-function-cast -Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wformat-security -Wformat-y2k -Winit-self -Wmissing-declarations -Wmissing-prototypes -Wnested-externs -Wno-system-headers -Wold-style-definition -Wpacked -Wredundant-decls -Wstrict-prototypes -Wswitch-default -Wswitch-enum -Wundef -Wwrite-strings -Wformat -Wno-type-limits -Wstrict-aliasing=3 -Wshadow -Werror -Wbad-function-cast -Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wformat-security -Wformat-y2k -Winit-self -Wmissing-declarations -Wmissing-prototypes -Wnested-externs -Wno-system-headers -Wold-style-definition -Wpacked -Wredundant-decls -Wstrict-prototypes -Wswitch-default -Wswitch-enum -Wundef -Wwrite-strings -Wformat -Wno-type-limits -Wstrict-aliasing=3 -

RAS_CEC introduce a simple data structure for collecting correctable errors along with accessors. This is a small cache which collects correctable memory errors per 4K page PFN and counts their repeated occurrence. Once the counter for a PFN overflows, we try to soft-offline that page as we take it to mean that it has reached a relatively high error count and would probably be best if we don't use it anymore. The error decoding is done with the decoding chain now and mce_first_notifier() gets to see the error first and the CEC decides whether to log it and then the rest of the chain doesn't hear about it - basically the main reason for the CE collector - or to continue running the notifiers. When the CEC hits the action threshold, it will try to soft-offine the page containing the ECC and then the whole decoding chain gets to see the error. To disable the Correctable Errors Collector, a kernel parameter is used: > ras=cec_disable A MR was created with this proposal at: https://salsa.debian.org/kernel-team/linux/-/merge_requests/827 Thanks, Miguel Bernal Marin --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: linux Source-Version: 6.5.1-1~exp1 Done: Salvatore Bonaccorso We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of linux, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. This is done through the CPUFREQ_DT_PLATDEV config, which is selected by CPUFREQ_DT. However the cpufreq-dt-platdev is not autoloaded. On the configs enabling the CPUFREQ_DT module, that is armel/rpi, armhf and arm64, this means that CPUFREQ_DT_PLATDEV is changed from built-in in 6.4 to module in 6.5. In turns this means that cpufreq is not supported anymore unless the cpufreq-dt-platdev is manually loaded. Tested on a RK3568 based ODROID-M1 board. We should probably force CPUFREQ_DT_PLATDEV=y on the configs where CPUFREQ_DT=m. For example, scsi, drm, video, etc. headers are missing from the package. These headers are not a part of any standard, but are still useful for the userspace programs, they provide information about the kernel-userspace interfaces. Without these headers in the linux-libc-dev package (or any other package) we have either to install them manually or (for Debian packages needing them) bundle respective headers. -- With best wishes Dmitry -- System Information: Debian Release: trixie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 6.4.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE, TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_GB:en Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/bash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) -- no debconf information --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: linux Source-Version: 6.5.1-1~exp1 Done: Salvatore Bonaccorso We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of linux, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. It is a transient issue. The packages are created in two steps and in backports we have no way to make sure they show up at the same time. > As a matter of facts, if it is a "standard case" for backports, I understand > that specific precautions have to be taken before deciding to upgrade a kernel > from backports, so that DKMS modules won't break. So they can only be installed once and need to be searched by the actual version of the image package. In any way, everything is weird and broken. We currently often run into uninstallable meta packages, due to the signing stuff adding a race condition between the availability of the header packages and the image packages. Then people tend to not reboot, so they are searching for older headers, which are already removed. And there is no really good solution. The only real solution would be to always bundle headers and images and install everything. But this will make everything 50MB larger and does not fit for things like the stripped down cloud kernels. It's still not entirely clear to me, whether this transient issue (where linux- image-amd64 can be installed while the corresponding linux-headers-amd64 can't) is a "standard case" for backports, or it is an "exceptional" situation ? As a matter of facts, if it is a "standard case" for backports, I understand that specific precautions have to be taken before deciding to upgrade a kernel from backports, so that DKMS modules won't break. Is this correct ? Thank you for your time, Regards,
