I'm having no luck, it seems that something
 changed on recent
  Apple products. I have

  Apple PowerMac7,3.5.1.8f5 BootROM built on

Is this the same BootROM you are running (the
 version will list
in Mac OS X System Profile)?

 Paddy Boot ROM Version: 5.1.4f0

Thanks! The different firmware might be (part of?)
 the reason I can't
boot d-i. I just noticed that Apple has released
 5.1.8f7 for download,
with the explanation that it improves system
 reliability for Power
 Mac G5 (June 2004) systems.

I will probably upgrade the firmware and retry over
 the Christmas
 weekend.

 Best regards,
 Shyamal

Bug#286733: initrd-tools: sg.ko required by SATA machine

The sg driver was used to access scsi scanners, scsi
 cd
writers, etc. I don't have any experience with your
 hardware,
but using sg to access your root disk is pretty
 unusual.

Have you tried the sata_sil driver?
