Bug#1012578: linux-image-5.18.0-1-amd64: 05e3:0722 Genesys Logic, Inc. SD/MMC card reader doesn't see the card
Package: src:linux Version: 5.18.2-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, that is card reader itself is being seen by the system: lsusb -d 05e3:0722 Bus 001 Device 004: ID 05e3:0722 Genesys Logic, Inc. SD/MMC card reader but it doesn't see the card: dmesg -T | grep sdc [Thu Jun 9 15:30:09 2022] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Media removed, stopped polling [Thu Jun 9 15:30:09 2022] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI removable disk mount /dev/sdc /mnt/sdcard mount: /mnt/sdcard: no medium found on /dev/sdc. I have explored the driver: modinfo usb-storage | grep -i v05e3p0722 and it looks like there is no support for this device (no output from command above), but I am not sure it is the case. In any case the system doesn't react nighter on inserting or removing the card. I have recompiled this module where supported device 05e3:0723 was replaced by 05e3:0722 without any changes in system behaviour, though I understand it is not the right method. I have checked this card on another system (notebook) and it works properly. Bug#604470: linux-image-2.6.32-5-openvz-amd64: degraded inbound network bandwidth
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.32-27 Severity: normal For traffic from Internet to Container the bandwidth cut down in 5-10 times compared to Hardware Nodes. And for connection between two containers on different Hardware Nodes but in the same Local Network inbound speed slow down dramatically to 1 times. At the same time outbound bandwidth is close to Hardware Node one. There are no such problems with kernel I've got from openvz site: http://download.openvz.org/kernel/branches/2.6.32/2.6.32-dzhanibekov.1/kernel-2.6.32-dzhanibekov.1.x86_64.rpm as well as with old Debian kernel linux-image-2.6.26-2-openvz-amd64 thre are no problem too. -- Package-specific info: ** Kernel log: boot messages should be attached ** Model information sys_vendor: HP product_name: ProLiant DL180 G6 product_version: chassis_vendor: HP chassis_version: bios_vendor: HP bios_version: O20 ** PCI devices: 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 5520 I/O Hub to ESI Port [8086:3406] (rev 13) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:330b] Control: I/O- Mem- BusMaster- SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr+ Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast TAbort- TAbort- MAbort- SERR- PERR- INTx- Capabilities: [60] MSI: Enable- Count=1/2 Maskable+ 64bit- Address: Data: Masking: Pending: Capabilities: [90] Express (v2) Root Port (Slot-), MSI 00 DevCap: MaxPayload 128 bytes, PhantFunc 0, Latency L0s 64ns, L1 1us ExtTag+ RBE+ FLReset- DevCtl: Report errors: Correctable- Non-Fatal+ Fatal+ Unsupported- RlxdOrd- ExtTag- PhantFunc- AuxPwr- NoSnoop- MaxPayload 128 bytes, MaxReadReq 128 bytes DevSta: CorrErr- UncorrErr- FatalErr- UnsuppReq- AuxPwr- TransPend- LnkCap: Port #0, Speed 2.5GT/s, Width x4, ASPM L0s L1, Latency L0 512ns, L1 64us ClockPM- Surprise+ LLActRep+ BwNot+ LnkCtl: ASPM Disabled; RCB 64 bytes Disabled- Retrain- CommClk- ExtSynch- ClockPM- AutWidDis- BWInt- AutBWInt- LnkSta: Speed 2.5GT/s, Width x4, TrErr- Train- SlotClk+ DLActive+ BWMgmt- ABWMgmt- RootCtl: ErrCorrectable- ErrNon-Fatal+ ErrFatal+ PMEIntEna- CRSVisible- RootCap: CRSVisible- RootSta: PME ReqID , PMEStatus- PMEPending- DevCap2: Completion Timeout: Range BCD, TimeoutDis+ ARIFwd+ DevCtl2: Completion Timeout: 260ms to 900ms, TimeoutDis- ARIFwd- LnkCtl2: Target Link Speed: 2.5GT/s, EnterCompliance- SpeedDis-, Selectable De-emphasis: -6dB Transmit Margin: Normal Operating Range, EnterModifiedCompliance- ComplianceSOS- Compliance De-emphasis: -6dB LnkSta2: Current De-emphasis Level: -6dB Capabilities: [e0] Power Management version 3 Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0+,D1-,D2-,D3hot+,D3cold+) Status: D0 NoSoftRst+ PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- Capabilities: [100 v1] Advanced Error Reporting UESta: DLP- SDES- TLP- FCP- CmpltTO- CmpltAbrt- UnxCmplt- RxOF- MalfTLP- ECRC- UnsupReq- ACSViol- UEMsk: DLP- SDES+ TLP- FCP- CmpltTO- CmpltAbrt- UnxCmplt+ RxOF- MalfTLP- ECRC- UnsupReq+ ACSViol- UESvrt: DLP+ SDES+ TLP- FCP- CmpltTO- CmpltAbrt- UnxCmplt- RxOF+ MalfTLP+ ECRC- UnsupReq- ACSViol- CESta: RxErr- BadTLP- BadDLLP- Rollover- Timeout- NonFatalErr- CEMsk: RxErr- BadTLP- BadDLLP- Rollover- Timeout- NonFatalErr+ AERCap: First Error Pointer: 00, GenCap- CGenEn- ChkCap- ChkEn- Capabilities: [150 v1] Access Control Services ACSCap: SrcValid+ TransBlk+ ReqRedir+ CmpltRedir+ UpstreamFwd+ EgressCtrl- DirectTrans- ACSCtl: SrcValid- TransBlk- ReqRedir- CmpltRedir- UpstreamFwd- EgressCtrl- DirectTrans- Capabilities: [160 v0] Vendor Specific Information: ID=0002 Rev=0 Len=00c ? 00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 5520/5500/X58 I/O Hub PCI Express Root Port 1 [8086:3408] (rev 13) (prog-if 00 [Normal decode]) Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr+ Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- DisINTx+ Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast TAbort- TAbort- MAbort- SERR- PERR- INTx- Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 256 bytes Bus: primary=00, secondary=07, subordinate=07, sec-latency=0 I/O behind bridge: e000-efff Memory behind bridge: fbe0-fbef Secondary status: 66MHz- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast TAbort- TAbort- MAbort- SERR- PERR- BridgeCtl: Parity+ SERR+ NoISA- VGA- MAbort- Reset- FastB2B-

The hard logic. Yes, if You have too big /boot then You can have lot of backup initrd there. But we want keep it small, isn't?. it was needed in the past and may still be helpful thus kept as option, but it will clutter much less. It should not be option, it should be main functionality. And all clutter should go out of /boot. Not enough as soon as old image remain in place while new one generated. Thus space needed is doubled in any way. It is good idea to generate the new image out of /boot and then replace old image with new one. this is admin error of too small /boot/. How long You will repeat this absurdity? This will not admin error if You will not use /boot for backup and temporary files. There are some other places for this purposes, do You know? you context a change that was done for better reliability and you miss context of it, read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyInitramfsErrorHandling OK. I see, but there are nothing what I don't already know at least related to this discussing. That is simple algorithm: 1. You backup old intrd image 2. You create new image as temporary file. 3. You move new image in place of old one. 4. If it fail due to low disk space You move back the old image into its' place. And then You proudly say me that was done for better reliability! But this is poor reliability. This way You solve only one case, when system become unbootable: when new image are already overridden by old one, but there are not enough space for that and You have not neither new nor old image. But there are other cases when system become unbootable, for example due to contents of new image itself. This is common case, when You can not boot with new image, but old one already overridden, because image was generated few times before system boot. Please, don't tell me, this is admin error again. I don't understand, why You don't agree to move backup and temporary files out of /boot? In this case Your idea of reliability remain in place: when You can not replace old image with new one due to low disk space, You will roll back to the old image as You do this now. -- * Vladimir Stavrinov ** *** v...@inist.ru * * -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. It is common problem: the /boot directory placed on separate partition that should be small. If there are more then one kernel, the disk space will be necessarily exhausted, because new kernel version require more disk space then old as usual. Turning off backup don't help because the old initrd removed after the new one created. To solve this problem the backups should be moved to separated directory and may be rotated. Bug#562847: gzip: stdout: No space left on device
Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.93.4 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch I think, at least once You saw the message in subject. The old initrd should be moved there or removed before the new one will be created. All this work is done by script I have attached there. It is intended to be run before update-initramfs, but there are no triggers to do this. Using /etc/initramfs-tools/hooks don't help.
