Bug#928923: Acknowledgement (linux-image-4.19.0-4-cloud-amd64: reports different NIC name than linux-image-amd64 on virtio-net)

2019-05-22 Thread Xinyue Lu
To reproduce this issue, one must set Machine Type in VM Hardware to
"q35" instead of the default i440fx.

The issue can still be reproduced on linux-image-4.19.0-5-cloud-amd64 4.19.37-3.

Bug#928923: linux-image-4.19.0-4-cloud-amd64: reports different NIC name than linux-image-amd64 on virtio-net

2019-05-12 Thread Xinyue Lu
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.19.28-2
Severity: normal

Environment:

Proxmox VE host, 5.4-1
KVM guest, Debian 10 testing
virtio_net NIC

With linux-image-4.19.0-4-cloud-amd64:

# udevadm test-builtin net_id /sys/class/net/en*
Load module index
Parsed configuration file /usr/lib/systemd/network/99-default.link
Created link configuration context.
Using default interface naming scheme 'v240'.
ID_NET_NAMING_SCHEME=v240
ID_NET_NAME_MAC=enxbe57fa7f6fb0
ID_NET_NAME_PATH=enp6s18
Unload module index
Unloaded link configuration context.

enp6s18 is used for NIC.

With linux-image-4.19.0-4-amd64:

+ID_NET_NAME_SLOT=ens18

ens18 is used for NIC.

Changing NIC name on switching between kernel varient, IMHO, is not
expected.
